ESD shows all my weekly claims as 'disqualified' but no appeal option appearing - help!
I'm really starting to panic here. For the past 3 weeks, I've been filing my weekly unemployment claims on time (always on Sunday), but when I check my account, ALL of them say 'disqualified'. Each time I see a message saying I can appeal the decision, but when I go to the status bar section of my eServices account, there's no appeal option showing up anywhere! I've clicked through every tab and menu I can find. Has anyone else run into this weird glitch? I was laid off from my nursing assistant job and definitely should qualify. I need this money for rent next month and I'm completely stuck on what to do next. Should I just keep filing even though they keep disqualifying me? Call ESD? Start a whole new claim?

This happened to me back in January. There's usually a reason you're being disqualified, and it should say somewhere on your determination letter. Check your eServices messages and documents section - there should be a formal determination letter explaining why you're disqualified (not enough work hours, quit instead of laid off, etc.). The appeal option usually appears at the bottom of that specific determination letter, not just in the general status area. You have 30 days from the date on each determination to file an appeal.

•Thanks for responding! I just checked all my messages again and found the determination letters (I thought those were just confirmation emails before). Apparently they're saying I'm disqualified because I didn't report actively looking for work? But I've been applying to jobs every week! Do I need to upload proof somewhere?

hey so the disqualification means they think u didnt meet one of the requirements. u need to check ur messages in eservices - theres probably a letter explaining WHY ur disqualified. could be job search related, could be availability, standby issues, etc. u cant appeal til u know what ur appealing!!

•Just found the letters... you're right! They're saying I didn't do my job searches correctly. I've been applying but I guess I needed to log them in the system too? I feel so stupid now.

There are three likely explanations for your situation: 1. You need to complete your job search log each week with at least 3 approved job search activities. If you're not entering these in the weekly claim, you'll automatically be disqualified. 2. There might be an eligibility issue with your claim that requires additional information. Check your "Alerts" tab for any outstanding questionnaires. 3. Your appeal rights should be clearly spelled out in the determination letter that explains your disqualification. These are usually sent to your eServices inbox AND mailed to your address. I recommend you first call ESD directly to clarify the exact reason for disqualification. Continue filing weekly claims while you resolve this issue! If you've been actually conducting job searches but just not reporting them correctly, you may be able to submit those retroactively for the previous weeks.

•Thank you for the detailed explanation! I definitely did my job searches (I've applied to at least 5 places each week) but didn't realize I had to actually log them in the system when filing. Is it too late to add them now? The letter says something about 'able and available' issues too.

Last month they disqualified me twice and then randomly approved my claims lol. ESD is so messed up sometimes. Just keep trying and calling them.

Been having so many problems with ESD in the past few months! I was disqualified back in January because apparently I didn't answer some question about a previous employer correctly, and it took FOREVER to get it fixed. I was going crazy trying to call them day after day but could never get through. Have you tried calling very early in the morning? That's what worked for me.

•Ugh it's so frustrating! I've tried calling a few times but just get the "high call volume" message and then it hangs up on me. How early did you call to get through?

I've been through this exact situation. When you get disqualified, the appeal option is ONLY available through the actual determination letter itself, not the general status page. Here's what you need to do: 1. Go to your eServices inbox and find the determination letters (there should be one for each disqualified week) 2. Open each letter and scroll ALL the way to the bottom - you should see the appeal option there 3. If you got disqualified for job search activities, you need 3 valid activities per week that must be logged when you file the weekly claim 4. You can still get retroactive benefits if you actually did the job searches but just didn't report them properly - you'll need documentation though Keep filing weekly claims while you sort this out! The worst mistake people make is stopping their claims during disputes. Also, if you're having trouble getting through to ESD, I discovered a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an actual agent after weeks of failed attempts. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Good luck! The system is frustrating but solvable if you're persistent.

•Thank you SO much for the detailed advice! I found the determination letters and see the appeal options now. I had no idea I needed to be logging my job searches IN the system - I've been keeping them in a notebook. Will definitely check out that service too since I've been going crazy trying to reach someone.

The same thing happened to me!!! I was disqualified for THREE WEEKS because I didnt understand I had to ENTER my job searches even though I WAS DOING THEM!!! So ridiculous how they don't explain this clearly enough. You can call and explain and sometimes they'll let you add them retroactively but good luck getting through on the phone. The whole system is designed to deny people benefits I swear.

•It's so unfair! Did you eventually get those weeks approved after you explained the situation? I've been keeping detailed notes of all my applications but just didn't know where to enter them.

It's definitely worth appealing if you actually did the job searches but just didn't report them properly. When you file an appeal, you'll need to provide evidence of your job search activities for those weeks (emails, application confirmations, etc.). In the meantime, make sure you're correctly reporting your job search activities for all future weekly claims. In each weekly claim, you'll be asked to provide: - Name of employer/organization contacted - Date of contact - Method of contact (online, in-person, etc.) - Type of work sought - Action taken (applied, networked, etc.) - Results of the contact Anything less than 3 fully documented activities per week will result in automatic disqualification.

•Thank you! I've started my appeal for all three weeks and uploaded screenshots of my application confirmation emails. Fingers crossed they accept this as evidence. For this week's claim, I made sure to enter everything properly.

I'm glad you found the appeal options! For anyone else reading this in the future: I cannot stress enough how important it is to properly document your job search activities. The ESD system is very particular about this requirement. Once you file your appeal, it might take 3-5 weeks to be processed. Continue filing your weekly claims properly in the meantime. When I had to contact ESD about my claim issues, I was getting so frustrated with the constant busy signals. Using that Claimyr service I mentioned was a game-changer - got through to an agent within 25 minutes after trying for weeks on my own. Just sharing what worked for me since this seems to be such a common problem.

•do u have to pay for claimyr? seems sketchy to pay money just to talk to a govt agency we should be able to reach anyway

@profile7 Yes, there is a fee, but for me it was worth it after spending weeks unable to get through and potentially missing out on thousands in benefits. I was skeptical too, but they don't ask for any sensitive claim information - they just help connect your call. I understand the frustration though - in an ideal world, ESD would have enough staff to handle all the calls.

UPDATE: I wanted to let everyone know that I got through to ESD this morning (called right when they opened at 8am and still waited 45 minutes). The agent was actually really helpful and explained that I can submit my job search activities retroactively through the appeal process. She said since I have documentation of all my applications, there's a good chance my appeal will be approved, but it could take 3-4 weeks to process. She also walked me through exactly how to enter job searches correctly for future claims. Thanks everyone for your help!

•Great news! Yes, the appeal process generally works well when you have proper documentation. In the future, remember that WorkSource workshops and job fairs also count as job search activities, which can be helpful if you're having trouble finding enough positions to apply for each week.
