Why do my weekly claims show 'Disqualified' when ESD ruled in my favor?
I'm at my wit's end with ESD right now. They ruled in my favor for my unemployment claim over 5 weeks ago, so I can't even appeal because technically I 'won' my case. But here's the crazy part - every single weekly claim I file still shows up as 'disqualified' in my eServices account! I've submitted 5 weekly claims now, all showing the same status. My determination letter clearly states I'm eligible for benefits (something about meeting the able and available requirements), but no money is coming through. I've called ESD at least 12 times but always get disconnected or told the queue is full. Has anyone dealt with this bizarre situation where you're approved but still getting disqualified weeks? What should I do next?

This sounds like a technical issue with your claim. Sometimes ESD systems don't properly update across all their databases. When your determination letter says you're eligible but your weekly claims show disqualified, it usually means there's another issue the system flagged that's different from what was already resolved. Common reasons include: 1. Not completing enough job search activities (need 3 per week) 2. Reporting earnings incorrectly 3. Answering a weekly claim question in a way that automatically disqualifies you 4. Having another adjudication issue that's separate from the one that was resolved You really need to speak with an agent directly to fix this. They can see exactly what's causing the disqualifications.

•Thanks for the explanation. I've definitely been doing all my job searches (actually doing 4-5 each week to be safe) and I haven't had any earnings to report. I answer all questions carefully too. So frustrating that I can't even find out which of those issues it might be!

I had something similar happen last fall. My initial claim was approved after adjudication, but my weekly claims kept showing disqualified. Turns out there was a flag on my account regarding availability for work that wasn't cleared properly. The system thought I wasn't available full-time even though that's exactly what my determination letter addressed. You NEED to speak with an actual ESD agent. They can see things in their system that don't show up in your eServices portal. Have you tried calling right when they open at 8am? That used to work for me.

•I've tried calling at opening a few times but still couldn't get through. Did you have to do anything special once you finally reached someone? I'm worried they'll just tell me to wait longer.

•Thanks for sharing your experience! I'll double-check all my answers but I'm pretty sure I didn't mess up any of the weekly questions. Did you have to call them to fix it or did it eventually resolve on its own?

I've been dealing with ESD for over a decade (on and off obviously) and seen this several times. The most common reason for this exact situation is that there's a second issue on your claim that wasn't part of the original determination. For example, they might have determined you're eligible based on your separation from employment, but there could be a separate issue about your availability, job search compliance, or even identity verification. Unfortunately, there's absolutely no way to fix this without speaking to a claims agent directly. The online system and automated phone system can't address these complex issues.

•Ugh, that's what I was afraid of. I wish they would at least tell me what the second issue might be! Really appreciate your insight based on your long experience with the system.

Try using Claimyr to reach ESD. I was in the exact same boat last month - approved claim but disqualified weeks. Was going crazy trying to get through on the phone. Found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an ESD agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Turns out I had an identity verification flag that wasn't showing in my online account. The agent fixed it right away and I got all my back payments within 3 days.

@profile8 - Yes it works, not sketchy at all. They just help you get through the phone queue. The ESD agent was super helpful once I actually got to talk to one.

•I'll check out that service - at this point I'm desperate enough to try anything! Just need to get a human on the phone who can explain what's happening.

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO MAKE YOU GIVE UP!!!! I had the EXACT same issue in 2023. They rule in your favor but then MYSTERIOUSLY every week shows disqualified. It's because they put RANDOM HOLDS on accounts and then DON'T TELL YOU WHY!!! I had to contact my state representative to get any help after 2 MONTHS of trying. The ESD doesn't care about us!!!

•I really hope I don't have to wait 2 months or contact my representative, but I appreciate knowing that might be an option if nothing else works. It definitely feels like the system is working against us sometimes.

The terminology can be confusing, but there's an important distinction here: your claim being approved means you're eligible for the program, but each weekly certification can still be disqualified for various reasons. Check if you've answered any of these questions in a way that would trigger disqualification: - Did you report being unavailable for work on any day? - Did you refuse any job offers? - Did you report being unable to work due to illness? - Did you travel outside your job search area? If you can get through to ESD, ask them to review your weekly claim answers specifically.

•This is really helpful - thank you! I've answered no to all of those questions, which makes it even more confusing why I'm being disqualified. I'm starting to think it must be some kind of technical glitch in their system.

Update us once you figure out what the issue was! It will help others who might run into similar problems in the future.

•I definitely will! Going to try calling again tomorrow morning and if that doesn't work, I might try that Claimyr service someone mentioned. Really appreciate everyone's help here.
