ESD denying my weekly claims despite approved reopened claim - can't reach anyone for help

I'm at my wit's end with this ESD nightmare! I successfully reopened my unemployment claim last month and got a monetary determination letter showing I should receive $687 per week. But every single week when I file my claim, it gets denied with NO explanation whatsoever. The most frustrating part is there's no appeal option showing up in eServices for these denials. I've called the ESD number literally 40+ times over the past two weeks at different hours of the day, and either get disconnected immediately or sit on hold until the system boots me out. I've sent messages through eServices but haven't received any response. I have bills piling up and I'm about to miss rent. Has anyone else dealt with weekly claim denials after being approved for benefits? Is there some obscure reason this could be happening? Any advice on how to actually talk to a human being at ESD?

have u checked ur weekly claim answers? maybe ur accidentally saying something that disqualifies u each week. like saying ur not available for work or something.

I've triple-checked everything! I'm saying I'm available for work, actively job searching, not refusing any work, etc. I've been on unemployment before in 2023 so I know how to answer the questions correctly. That's why I'm so confused!

This sounds like a technical issue with your claim. These are the most common reasons weekly claims get denied despite having an approved claim: 1. You might have another state's claim interfering with your WA claim 2. Your identity verification might have lapsed or flagged 3. There could be an employer protest that wasn't properly resolved 4. Your job search activities may not meet requirements (3 per week) 5. You have unreported earnings or separation pay that's causing issues Unfortunately, you DO need to speak with an ESD agent to resolve this. Have you tried calling right when they open at 8am? That's usually the best time to get through.

Thanks for the detailed response. I've tried calling right at 8am several times but get the same automated message about high call volume. I've never worked in another state, so it's not #1. My identity was verified when I reopened the claim. My former employer actually helped me with the claim (small business, they had to reduce hours), so no protest there. I'm definitely doing more than 3 job search activities and documenting them. No other income or separation pay either... this is so frustrating!

I had the EXACT same issue a few months ago! Weekly denials with no appeal option. Turned out I had answered 'yes' to having applied for or received income from another state's unemployment system on my INITIAL claim (misread the question). I hadn't, but that single error flagged my account and caused auto-denials until manually fixed. The only way I resolved it was getting through to an actual ESD agent who could see the issue in their system. I struggled for weeks with the normal phone line before discovering Claimyr (claimyr.com). They connected me to an ESD agent in under 30 minutes when I'd been trying for weeks. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Once I got through, the agent fixed everything in about 5 minutes and released all my back payments. Worth checking out if you're desperate.

Thank you! I've never heard of Claimyr before but I'm definitely desperate at this point. Watching the video now. Did they backpay all the weeks you were denied once the issue was fixed?

Yes, once the ESD agent fixed the error in my account, they were able to change all my denied weekly claims to 'paid' status. I had 6 weeks of backpay that showed up in my account within 48 hours. Make sure you keep filing your weekly claims even though they're getting denied - that way you'll be eligible for backpay once the issue is resolved.

That's a relief to hear. I'll keep filing my weekly claims for sure. Going to try Claimyr right now - at this point I'd try anything to get this resolved.

ESD IS THE WORST!!!! I went through something similar in January and it took me TWO MONTHS to get it resolved!!! The system is DESIGNED to be impossible to navigate so they can deny benefits to eligible people who give up! I had to contact my state representative's office to finally get help. Try that if you can't get through on the phones!!!

Two months?! I can't wait that long... but contacting my state rep is a good backup plan if I can't get through to ESD soon. Thanks for the suggestion.

Another thing to check - did you verify your identity through ID.me when you reopened your claim? Sometimes the system approves your monetary determination but then flags your weekly claims if the ID verification wasn't fully processed. You should be able to see in your eServices account under the "Upload Documents" section if there's any pending identity verification request.

I did complete the ID.me verification when I reopened the claim, and got the confirmation email that it was linked to my ESD account. Just checked the Upload Documents section and don't see any pending requests. Good suggestion though, thank you!

I used Claimyr last week after struggling with the phone lines for days. It's legit - connected me to an ESD agent in about 20 minutes. Cost me but it was worth every penny since I was about to miss my car payment. The agent told me there was a flag on my account because I had accidentally entered my SSN wrong on one form (transposed two numbers). Once they fixed it, my payments processed within 2 days including all back weeks.

That's great to hear another positive experience with Claimyr. I'm trying it right now - fingers crossed I can get through to someone who can help figure out what's going on with my claim!

did u make sure ur doing all ur job search requirements? my buddy got denied 4 weeks straight bc he wasnt logging his job searches right

The OP mentioned they're completing and documenting more than the required 3 job search activities per week. Also, job search logging issues typically generate a specific notification and appeal rights, not silent denials without appeal options. This sounds more like a system flag or technical issue with the claim that requires agent intervention.

UPDATE: I got through!!! Used Claimyr and was connected to an ESD agent in about 25 minutes. Turns out there was a weird flag on my account because my previous claim from 2023 hadn't been properly closed in their system. The agent was able to fix it right away and process all my denied weeks. She said the payments should hit my account in 48-72 hours. So relieved! Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions.

That's great news! Glad you got it resolved quickly. It's amazing how these technical issues can completely halt benefits without any explanation to the claimant. Make sure to keep documenting your job searches even though this issue is resolved - they can audit those up to a year later.
