Multiple adjudication issues piling up on ESD claim - separation and able/available flags
I'm at my wits end with my unemployment claim! Started in February 2025 and was marked as 'active' right away, but I keep getting new adjudication issues every few weeks. Now I have 8 DIFFERENT claims pending! Under pending issues, two of my previous employers are listed with 'separation from job' flags, plus there's an 'able and available' issue. My weekly payments have completely stopped while all this gets sorted out. I'm so confused about what information they even need from me at this point. I've uploaded all my termination paperwork from both jobs, and I've been doing my job search activities religiously. Do I need to call ESD directly? Will they contact me? Anyone dealt with multiple adjudication issues happening at once? I seriously need to get this resolved before I can't pay rent next month.

Those 'separation from job' issues mean ESD is investigating why you left those jobs - they need to determine if you quit or were laid off/fired. The 'able and available' flag usually pops up if something in your weekly claim indicated you might not be available for full-time work (like saying you had limited availability or couldn't accept a job offer). You definitely need to contact ESD directly - they won't always reach out to you first, and these adjudication issues can drag on for months without intervention. I had three adjudication issues last year that took 10 weeks to resolve until I finally got through to someone.

•Thank you! Did ESD eventually call your previous employers? I left one job because they reduced my hours by 70% and the other because the business closed permanently. I've marked myself as fully available for work every week, so I'm really confused about the able/available flag.

Had almost the EXACT same thing happen to me!!! The adjudicators are SUPPOSED to call ur employers but they're so backlogged who knows if they even tried. What ended up fixing my claim was using Claimyr to get through to ESD - it was the only way I could actually talk to a real person! Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Once I actually got through to an agent, they were able to push my claim through adjudication in about a week. Worth it after waiting for almost 2 months with no movement!!!

Let me clarify something important here. Multiple adjudication issues don't mean you have multiple claims - you have ONE claim with several issues that need resolution. Here's exactly what's likely happening: 1. For "separation from job" - ESD needs to verify you lost those jobs through no fault of your own. If you haven't had a fact-finding interview yet, they should schedule one. They'll ask about your job loss circumstances. 2. For "able and available" - This could be triggered if you answered "no" to being able and available for work on ANY weekly claim, mentioned school attendance, indicated limited hours, or if there was a holiday during a claim week. The correct approach is: - Check your ESD dashboard for any scheduled interviews or fact-finding questionnaires - Look for secure messages in your ESD portal requesting specific information - Call ESD directly to find out exactly what information they're waiting for Many issues can be resolved with proper documentation. If reduced hours was your reason for leaving, you'll need to prove the reduction made the job unsuitable (70% reduction should qualify).

•You're right - I meant issues not claims! I haven't received any fact-finding questionnaires or interview notifications yet. I'll definitely call ESD tomorrow to see what's holding things up. Is there specific documentation I should prepare about my hours reduction before I call?

•Hey, just a heads up - Washington has pretty strong tenant protections. Your landlord legally has to work with you on a reasonable payment plan if you're having temporary financial hardship due to unemployment. Make sure to communicate with them in writing though!

I think the able and available thing might be because of how you answered one of those weekly certification questions. Sometimes even if you mark yes to everything, if you put any comments in the box that sound like you might have limitations, it automatically flags you. I had something similar happen when I mentioned I was recovering from surgery but still looking for work - totally got flagged even though I WAS available!

•Actually that might explain it! In one of my weekly claims I mentioned I was taking a 2-day professional certification course to improve my job prospects. I thought that would be a good thing but maybe it triggered the flag?

Regarding your question about documentation for the hours reduction - yes, definitely prepare before calling. Try to gather: 1. Pay stubs showing your normal hours before the reduction 2. Pay stubs or schedule showing reduced hours 3. Any written communication from your employer about the reduction 4. A timeline of events For your course triggering the able/available issue - that absolutely could be it. ESD sometimes flags training programs because they want to make sure you're still available for full-time work while taking classes. There's actually a training benefits program you might qualify for if you're taking approved training, but it requires separate approval.

•Thank you! I have all those documents fortunately. I'll get everything organized tonight. The course was only 2 days and already completed, so hopefully that won't be a major issue. I really appreciate everyone's help!

Just to add some perspective on timeframes - my claim had multiple adjudication issues last year (separation and able/available too), and it took exactly 11 weeks to resolve everything. But that was AFTER I managed to speak with an ESD representative who could see exactly what was happening with my claim. The system is frustratingly opaque until you can get someone on the phone. One important tip: when you do reach someone, ask them to document everything you discuss in your file notes. This helps if you have to call back later and speak with someone different. Also ask if there's anything specific you can upload to your account that might help speed things along.

Just checking back - were you able to get through to ESD? Any progress on your claim?

•I called the regular number about 20 times with no luck, so I ended up using that Claimyr service and got through in about 15 minutes! The agent confirmed both issues - the job separations were pending employer response (they have to respond within 10 days) and the able/available flag was indeed from mentioning my certification course. They're sending me a training benefits application just in case I do more courses in the future. Thanks everyone for your help!
