ESD approved my appeal but now says 'waiting for information' - should I be worried?

I've been on this rollercoaster with ESD for weeks now and just when I thought it was over, I'm confused again. Quick background: I quit my previous retail position for what seemed like a better opportunity at a marketing firm, but they let me go after only two weeks saying I 'wasn't a good fit' (no other explanation). When I applied for unemployment, ESD initially denied my claim. I filed an appeal with a detailed 2-page explanation and uploaded all my documentation showing the circumstances. Last week I got a letter saying my appeal was successful and my case was 'redetermined' in my favor. They even deposited payment to my account yesterday! But here's the weird part - when I check my eServices account, where it previously said 'adjudication in progress', it now says 'waiting for information'. If they already approved me and paid me, what information could they possibly be waiting for? Has anyone seen this status before? I'm paranoid they're going to try to take the money back or something after all the hoops I've already jumped through.

I had something similar happen to me last month. The 'waiting for information' message sometimes stays in the system even after they've made a decision. In my case, it eventually changed to 'completed' after about a week. Since you already got the approval letter AND payment, you're probably fine. The ESD system is notorious for not updating status messages promptly.

Thanks for this - really helps to hear someone else had the same thing. Did you do anything to make it change to 'completed' or did it just update on its own?

Thank you! Yeah, I was shocked the appeal worked. I spent hours crafting that letter and gathering evidence, so I'm really relieved it paid off.

NOPE. Do NOT assume everything is fine!!! ESD loves to give people benefits and then SNATCH them back with overpayment notices months later!!! That "waiting for information" could mean they're still investigating something about your case, even though they temporarily approved you. I'd call them ASAP to find out what "information" they need. Don't get comfortable spending that money yet.

This isn't entirely accurate. While ESD can issue overpayments, if the OP received a formal redetermination letter after appeal, that's different from a conditional payment. The system status messages are often just slow to update and shouldn't cause panic.

Based on your description, you've likely experienced what we call a "status lag" in the ESD system. The formal redetermination letter and payment are the strongest indicators that your appeal was successful. The "waiting for information" status is often an artifact from the adjudication process that hasn't caught up with the decision made on your case. What matters most is that you received both: 1. The official redetermination letter stating approval 2. The actual benefit payment These are the definitive proof that your appeal succeeded. The online status will likely update within 7-10 business days. However, I would recommend keeping all documentation related to your case (especially that approval letter) for at least a year, as ESD can review claims during that period.

This is incredibly helpful and puts my mind at ease. I'll definitely hang onto all the documentation. Do you think I need to continue filing my weekly claims while this status message is there, or would that create confusion in the system?

I had to reach ESD about a similar issue (different message but also confusing). I wasted DAYS trying to get through on their regular line and kept getting disconnected. Finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to connect with an ESD agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The agent told me these status messages often don't update correctly and to trust the official determination letter over what the portal shows. Huge relief to actually speak to someone instead of stressing for days.

Is that service legit? I've been trying to reach someone at ESD for over a week about my claim being stuck in processing.

UPDATE: Just wanted to let everyone know that I logged in this morning and the status has now changed to "completed"! Looks like it was just a system delay like many of you mentioned. Thanks for all the help and reassurance!

Great to hear! Their system is definitely not the most reliable when it comes to status updates. Glad everything worked out for you!

My sister went thru somethign similar except hers said "pending adjudication" for like 3 weeks after she got paid lol. ESD needs to hire better programmers or something cause their website is from like 1998
