ESD claim status changed from 'waiting for information' back to 'adjudication in progress' - what's happening?
I've been checking my ESD claim status obsessively and noticed some changes that have me confused. For weeks my claim was stuck on 'adjudication in progress' without any movement. Then on Wednesday it suddenly switched to 'waiting for information' and ESD told me they contacted my former employer and were waiting for their response. But last night I checked again and it went BACK to 'adjudication in progress'! Does this mean my employer finally responded? What are they doing with my claim now? This is so stressful because I'm trying to budget for next month and have no idea if/when I'll get paid. Anyone experienced similar status changes who can explain what this means?

I went through something similar last month! When your status goes from 'waiting for information' back to 'adjudication in progress,' it usually means your employer DID respond. Now ESD is reviewing all the information to make a decision on your claim. In my case, it took about 10 more days before they made a determination. But I was going crazy checking the portal every few hours lol. Hang in there!

•Thanks for sharing your experience! 10 more days sounds like forever right now. Did you get any other status updates between 'adjudication in progress' and the final determination? I'm wondering if I should be looking for other status changes.

This is actually a positive sign in the ESD process. The status changing back to adjudication means they've collected all the information they needed and are now making a determination on your claim. The adjudicator is reviewing everything including what your employer submitted. They're checking if you qualify based on the separation reason and other eligibility factors. Depending on their workload, this final adjudication stage usually takes 7-14 days. If it goes longer than two weeks, you might want to contact them for an update.

•^^^this person knows what theyre talking about. same exact thing happened with my claim in february and after it went back to adjudication it was approved like a week later. just wait it out a bit longer

•That's really helpful to know, thank you! I've been so stressed about this. Do you know if they typically make the determination for all issues at once? I have two separate issues in adjudication - one about my job separation and another about availability for work.

Not to be a downer, but my claim went thru the same status changes and then I got disqualified because my employer contested everything. The ESD system is completely broken and rigged against workers. They always believe whatever the employer says no matter what evidence you provide. I would prepare for the worst just in case.

•This isn't necessarily true. While employers do have significant input, ESD adjudicators are trained to evaluate all evidence fairly. I've worked with many claimants who won their cases even when employers contested. The key is documentation - did you keep copies of all relevant communication with your employer? Did you provide clear evidence for your separation reason? These factors matter more than simply who ESD allegedly "favors.

•Maybe I'm just bitter from my experience, but the adjudicator literally ignored the documentation I sent proving I was laid off and accepted my boss's claim that I quit. The whole system feels designed to deny benefits whenever possible.

I had the EXACT same situation last month! When it changed back to adjudication in progress, I was freaking out and needed to know what was happening. I spent THREE DAYS trying to get through to ESD on the phone with no luck - constant busy signals or getting disconnected. Finally I used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an actual ESD agent in about 20 minutes. The agent confirmed my employer had responded and my claim was under final review. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 - totally worth it when you're stressing about your claim status.

•Thanks for the tip! I might try that if I don't see any updates in the next week. Did the ESD agent give you any timeline for how long the final adjudication would take when you called?

•The agent told me it would be 5-7 business days, and mine was approved on day 6. They were also able to see notes from the adjudicator that weren't visible to me in the online portal, which was really helpful.

has anyone noticed that the esd website always updates claim statuses at night?? mine always changed late at night too. i think they run some kind of batch processing system that updates everything overnight. just my theory lol

•You know, I never thought about it but you're right! All my status changes happened overnight too. Maybe they process everything in batches at the end of each workday.

I'd like to clarify what's happening with your claim based on the status changes you're seeing: 1. "Adjudication in progress" initially means your claim has issues requiring investigation 2. "Waiting for information" means ESD requested details from your employer or other parties 3. Return to "Adjudication in progress" confirms they received the requested information and are now making a decision This progression is actually normal and indicates your claim is moving forward. The adjudicator is now reviewing all documentation and will make a determination soon. If you have multiple issues in adjudication, they may be resolved separately or together depending on how related they are. For work availability issues, make sure you're documenting all your job search activities properly (3 per week) while waiting.

•Thank you for explaining the whole process! This makes me feel better knowing things are moving in the right direction. I've definitely been keeping up with my job search activities and logging them every week.

•Easier said than done! I tried calling ESD for three days straight last month and never got through - either busy signals or being on hold for hours only to get disconnected. Their phone system is completely overwhelmed.

Quick update for you - in 2025, ESD's current timeframe for completing adjudication after receiving employer information is about 7-10 business days based on what I've seen with recent claims. If your claim has two separate issues as you mentioned, they might resolve one before the other. The most important thing now is to keep filing your weekly claims without interruption while the adjudication process continues. Any missed weekly claims could further complicate your case.

•Thanks for the timeframe info - helps me set realistic expectations. And yes, I've made sure to file every single weekly claim even though nothing has been paid yet. I read somewhere that if you stop filing while in adjudication, you might lose benefits for those weeks even if you're eventually approved.

Does anyone else think its ridiculous that we cant just talk to our assigned adjudicator directly?? It would save so much time and stress if we could just communicate with the actual person handling our claim instead of random call center agents who dont know the specifics!!

•While direct communication would be ideal, ESD has this structure to maintain consistency and handle the large volume of claims. Adjudicators manage many cases simultaneously and spend most of their time reviewing documentation rather than fielding calls. The current system, though frustrating, allows them to process more claims overall. That said, you can request that the call center agent leave specific notes for your adjudicator if you have important information to add.

This hapened to me to. First adudication, then waiting, then back to ajudication. I got aproved 8 days after it went back to ajudication. Just keep checking everyday but dont stress to much about it is my advise.

•That's encouraging to hear! I'll try to be patient for at least a week before I start really worrying.

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! My claim has been bouncing between these statuses for the past two weeks and it's driving me crazy. What's really frustrating is that ESD doesn't give you any indication of what stage they're actually at or how much longer it might take. I've been refreshing the portal multiple times a day hoping to see some movement. It's reassuring to read that this status change pattern is actually normal and means things are progressing, even though it feels like being stuck in limbo. Has anyone here had experience with claims that have multiple separation issues? I'm wondering if that makes the process take longer since they have to review more documentation.

•I totally understand that frustration with constantly refreshing the portal! From what I've read in this thread, it sounds like the status bouncing is actually a good sign that your claim is moving through the process. Regarding multiple separation issues - from what others have shared here, they might resolve them separately or together depending on how related they are. The timeframes people mentioned (7-14 days after going back to adjudication) seem pretty consistent, so hopefully you'll see movement soon. The waiting is definitely the worst part when you're trying to plan your finances!
