ESD claim switched from IVR to pending - will I get paid during adjudication?
I've been checking my ESD account obsessively and noticed something weird today. My claim status changed from IVR-processing to pending, which from what I've read is probably not great news. But here's the confusing part - my total benefit amount actually went DOWN and now there's a specific dollar amount showing in the weekly benefit section that wasn't there before ($674). Does this mean they might pay me while my claim is in adjudication? I'm so confused about what's happening. My bills are piling up and I really need to know if I should expect money soon or if this is just another step in the waiting game. Has anyone experienced this status change and actually received payment?

The exact same thing happened to me last month! My status changed to pending and I saw a benefit amount appear. I got paid about 4 days later even though it still said my claim was in adjudication. I think they sometimes release payments while still reviewing parts of your claim.

•Seriously?? That would be amazing! Did you have to do anything special or did the money just show up? I'm trying not to get my hopes up but that would be a huge relief.

What you're seeing is actually a good sign. When your claim moves from IVR-processing to pending AND shows a weekly benefit amount, it typically means your monetary eligibility has been established. The system has calculated what you qualify for based on your work history. The adjudication is likely for a non-monetary issue (like reason for separation, availability for work, etc.). In many cases, ESD will pay benefits while investigating these issues, especially if they believe you'll likely qualify after review. Keep filing your weekly claims on time and watch for any correspondence requesting additional information. Also check your online notices section regularly.

•Thank you for explaining this so clearly! It makes so much more sense now. I've been filing my weekly claims religiously and haven't missed any. I'll definitely keep checking for new notices or requests. Really hoping I see that deposit soon!

dont get 2 excited, mine did this and then nothing for 6 weeks. they can still deny u even after setting benefit amount. depends what the adjudication is for

•This is absolutely correct. The benefit calculation is completely separate from eligibility determination. I've seen dozens of cases where people showed a benefit amount but were ultimately denied. The pending status just means they're still reviewing something about your claim.

I HATE how confusing their statuses are!! 🤬 When I got laid off in January I went through FIVE different status changes before finally getting paid. "In process" then "pending issue" then "adjudication" then back to "pending" then finally "paid". ESD seriously needs to hire some UX designers to make their system understandable to normal humans. And maybe hire enough staff to actually process claims in less than 3 months!!!!

•omg so true. i was pending for like 2 months and when i finally got thru to someone they said it was just because they had a backlog of identity verifications. wish they would tell us that on the website instead of making us panic!

If you need to speak with ESD about your specific situation, I'd recommend trying Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was in a similar situation with a pending adjudication and couldn't get through on the phones for weeks. Claimyr helped me get through to an ESD agent in about 25 minutes, and they were able to tell me exactly what was happening with my claim and when I could expect payment. They have a video demo that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. It seriously saved me weeks of stress and uncertainty.

•I've never heard of this service before. Does it actually work? The ESD phone system has been a complete nightmare - I tried calling 17 times yesterday and either got disconnected or the "we're experiencing high call volume" message.

•Yes, it definitely works. They basically navigate the phone system for you and call you back when they have an agent on the line. I was skeptical too, but I was desperate after trying for 3 days straight to get through. The agent I spoke with was able to see exactly what was happening with my claim and expedited my payment.

As someone who worked with unemployment claims for 8+ years, let me clarify: The status change from IVR-processing to pending with an established weekly benefit amount typically indicates your monetary eligibility has been determined. However, there are two components to unemployment eligibility: 1. Monetary eligibility (do you have enough qualifying wages/hours) 2. Non-monetary eligibility (reason for job loss, ability to work, etc.) Your claim appears to be monetarily eligible, hence the benefit amount. The adjudication is likely for a non-monetary issue. ESD policy allows conditional payments while non-monetary issues are investigated if they determine there's a reasonable expectation you'll qualify. Watch your correspondence section closely for any requests for additional documentation or interviews. Respond promptly to everything.

UPDATE: You all were right! Money appeared in my account this morning even though my claim still says "pending" online. Such a relief! Now I just hope they don't come back later and ask for it back if they find some issue during adjudication. Thanks for all the helpful information everyone.

•Great news! Keep filing your weekly claims and stay on top of any correspondence from ESD. If they do find an issue later, they'll notify you before taking any action to recover funds. In most cases, if you've provided accurate information, you won't have any problems. Glad it worked out for you!

•Woohoo! That's awesome. Mine stayed in adjudication for almost 3 months but they kept paying me the whole time. Eventually it just switched to approved without me doing anything else.
