ESD adjudication just started today - will I still get benefits during process?

Just logged into my ESD account and saw my claim status changed to 'adjudication in process' today. Nobody called me or anything, it just switched over. I'm freaking out because I've been counting on this money for next month's rent. Two questions: 1) Will I still receive weekly benefits while they're doing this adjudication thing? 2) How long does this process typically take? My savings are almost gone and I can't afford to wait months. Has anyone been through this recently?

I went thru adudication in January. They stopped my paymnets during the whole thing which took almost 7 WEEKS!!! Make sure u keep filing ur weekly claims even though u won't get paid. If they decide in ur favor they'll pay u all the back weeks at once.

7 WEEKS?? Oh god I can't wait that long. Did they tell you why you were in adjudication? I have no idea why mine changed status.

The adjudication process means ESD needs to investigate something on your claim. It could be employment separation reasons, your availability for work, or something about your employment history. Unfortunately, benefits are typically paused during adjudication, though this isn't always the case. The timeline varies significantly depending on what they're investigating. Simple issues might resolve in 2-3 weeks, while complex cases can take 8+ weeks. Make sure you respond quickly to any requests for information, as this speeds up the process. Also, continue filing your weekly claims during this time - this is absolutely crucial.

Thank you for explaining. Do you know if there's any way to see WHAT they're investigating? My ESD account doesn't show any alerts or issues that need my attention.

You might want to try using Claimyr to get through to an ESD agent quickly. I was in adjudication for weeks and couldn't get answers, then used their service and got connected to ESD in about 15 minutes. The agent was able to tell me exactly what was causing the hold and what documents I needed to submit. Made a huge difference! Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3

It definitely worked for me. It's just a call-back service that helps you get through the phone system. You still talk directly to ESD agents - Claimyr just helps you bypass the wait. Totally worth it when you're stuck in adjudication limbo.

Hey i just went through this!!! my claim got flagged for adjudication because my former employer gave conflicting info about why i left. ESD put a hold on payments for 3 weeks then i got an email asking for my side of the story. i replied right away and they approved my claim 4 days later and sent all my backpay. so could be shorter than 7 weeks depending on ur situation. my advice is call them asap and find out WHY ur in adjudication so u can be proactive

This is excellent advice. The reason for adjudication dramatically affects the timeline. For example, simple verification issues might be resolved quickly, while employer disputes often take longer. Identifying what triggered the adjudication allows you to prepare appropriate documentation in advance.

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO MAKE PPL GIVE UP!!! i was in "adjudication" for 13 WEEKS last year and they NEVER contacted me. i called 47 times and couldnt get thru. then they denied me for "failure to provide information" THEY NEVER ASKED FOR!!!! had to appeal to OAH and wait ANOTHER 2 months. ESD is BROKEN!!!!!

That's terrifying! Did you eventually get your benefits? I'm worried because I literally have no idea what they're investigating or what information they might need from me.

my sister had this happen and it was just because they needed to verify her identity. only took like 10 days and she got all her money. so don't panic yet maybe its something simple

Same for my roommate! Sometimes adjudication is just a verification thing and nothing serious. She still got benefits during it too, so I think it depends on what they're checking.

There are several important things to understand about adjudication: 1. Continue filing weekly claims even if payments stop 2. Check your ESD secure mailbox daily for correspondence 3. Look under "Notices/Letters" in your eServices account for any requests 4. Call ESD to determine the specific issue causing adjudication 5. Prepare documentation related to your employment separation The average adjudication time in 2025 is running about 4-6 weeks, though simple identity verification can be much faster. More complex issues like misconduct allegations or availability for work concerns take longer. Adjudication does not automatically mean benefits will stop, but it often results in a temporary payment pause until resolution.

Thanks for this detailed info. I'll definitely keep filing my weekly claims. I checked my secure mailbox and there's nothing there yet. Is there a specific day of the week when ESD typically sends out requests for information?

ESD doesn't have a specific schedule for sending requests. They process claims continuously throughout the week. However, many claimants report receiving communications mid-week (Tuesday-Thursday). The most important thing is checking daily and responding immediately to any requests. Quick responses can significantly reduce your adjudication timeline.

I fogot to mention, make sure u answer ur phone even if it's unknown numbers!!! ESD calls from blocked numbers sometimes and if u miss the call they might just mark u as "unavailable" and deny your claim!

This!!! I missed their call twice and they nearly denied me! Now I answer every single call even spam ones lol

Update: I finally got through to ESD this morning after calling repeatedly since 7:00am. The adjudication is because my former employer is claiming I quit rather than being laid off. The agent said they're still processing my weekly payments while they investigate. They're sending me a questionnaire that I need to return within 5 days. Really relieved to at least know what's going on now!

This is excellent news! Be very detailed in your questionnaire responses. Include specific dates, names of supervisors involved in your separation, and any documentation you have (emails, termination letter, etc.) that supports your claim that you were laid off rather than quit. If you have any text messages or emails discussing your separation, those will be extremely helpful.

Thanks! I've started gathering everything. I have the layoff letter they gave me and some emails discussing the reduction in workforce. Hopefully that's enough evidence.
