ESD claim now in adjudication after changing bank account info - was getting paid for months

I've been receiving unemployment benefits without any issues for the last 4 months, but now I'm freaking out. I recently changed my bank account and ESD required me to re-upload my driver's license and social security card. Now my claim status shows 'pending' and says it's in adjudication! Has anyone else gone through this? I need this money to pay my rent next week. Will they stop my payments completely? How long does this type of adjudication usually take? I don't understand why changing my direct deposit info would trigger this whole mess.

This happened to me back in January when I updated my banking info. ESD puts your claim into a review status to verify identity and prevent fraud. It's actually a good security measure but definitely stressful! I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an ESD agent quickly - they helped me get my claim back to paid status in about 5 days. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. Saved me from spending hours on hold!

Don't panic yet! When you change banking information, ESD's system automatically flags for identity verification review. This is a standard security process to ensure someone hasn't hacked your account and isn't trying to redirect your benefits. The adjudication is specifically reviewing your identity documents, not reconsidering your eligibility for benefits. Typically these reviews take 5-10 business days if all your documents are clear and legible. Continue filing your weekly claims during this time - once approved, you'll receive all missed payments in one lump sum. If it goes beyond 2 weeks, definitely contact ESD directly.

Thank you SO MUCH for explaining! I was worried they were questioning my eligibility all over again. 5-10 days is still going to be tight for my bills, but at least there's an end in sight. I'll keep filing my weekly claims.

Did you try contacting them directly? Sometimes these reviews can get stuck in the system if there's a small discrepancy in your documents. For example, if your new bank account name has a middle initial but your ID doesn't, or if the scan quality is poor.

I work with unemployment cases regularly. This is a standard fraud prevention measure. When banking information changes, ESD automatically triggers an identity verification review to protect claimants. Here's what you should do: 1. Continue filing weekly claims without interruption 2. Check your ESD account messages daily for any requests for additional information 3. Call ESD if it's been more than 10 business days 4. If you receive correspondence asking for the same documents you've already uploaded, upload them again The system is designed to prevent someone from intercepting your benefits by changing direct deposit information. Once verified, you'll receive all held payments.

Is there any way to avoid this in the future? My boyfriend needs to update his banking info too but we really can't afford to have his payments held up for weeks.

everyone keeps saying this is normal but it's NOT NORMAL to make people go weeks without money they're entitled to just because they changed banks!!! i had this happen and it took 23 days to fix! called esd 31 times!!! the whole system is designed to frustrate people into giving up

When I had this happen, I found out there was a specific adjudication phone line different from the main ESD number. Call 833-572-8400 and choose the option for adjudication questions specifically. Much shorter wait times than the regular number (though still not great). They can check the status of your identity verification and sometimes push it through if everything looks good. Don't wait too long to call - the sooner you reach out, the faster it gets resolved.

I didn't know there was a specific number for adjudication issues! I'll try calling them tomorrow morning. Really hope I can get this resolved quickly.

Just wanted to follow up - after using Claimyr to get through to an ESD agent, they explained that changing bank info automatically triggers an identity verification review. The agent was able to expedite my review since I had already been verified previously. Might be worth considering if you're in a rush. How is your situation going?

I called the adjudication number that someone suggested below and finally got through after about an hour. They said my documents look fine but they have a backlog. The agent noted my account to expedite it since I've been verified before. Fingers crossed it processes in the next couple days! If not, I might try your suggestion.

Does anyone know if this affects standby status? I'm on standby with my employer and worried this could mess that up too if I had to change my bank account.

Banking changes wouldn't affect your standby status. Standby is related to your relationship with your employer and your availability to return to work. The adjudication from a banking change is purely an identity verification measure, not a reassessment of your benefit eligibility or employment status.

I went through this exact same situation about 6 months ago! Changed my bank account info and immediately got thrown into adjudication - it was so stressful. The good news is that it really is just a routine identity verification process. In my case, it took about 8 business days to resolve, and I got all my back payments in one lump sum once it was cleared. One thing that helped me was making sure to check my ESD messages every single day - they sometimes request additional documents or clarification through the messaging system rather than calling. Also, when I called, I made sure to have my claim number, Social Security number, and all the documents I'd uploaded ready to reference. The waiting is the worst part, but try to stay calm - this is actually a good sign that the system is working to protect your benefits from fraud!

Thanks for sharing your experience! 8 days doesn't sound too bad compared to some of the horror stories I've been reading. I'm definitely checking my ESD messages obsessively now - didn't realize they might ask for more stuff through there. Did you have to resubmit any documents or was it pretty straightforward once you got through the initial review?

I'm dealing with something similar right now - had to change my bank info last week and now I'm stuck in adjudication too. It's really reassuring to see so many people saying this is normal, even though it's incredibly stressful when you're living paycheck to paycheck. I've been checking my ESD account multiple times a day and filing my weekly claims like everyone suggested. The worst part is not knowing exactly when it'll be resolved. Has anyone had success getting a timeline estimate when they called the adjudication line? I'm trying to decide if I should call now or wait a few more days.
