Date changed on ESD adjudication status - Does updated date mean case is moving forward?
Hey all, I'm confused about what's happening with my ESD claim. I've been in adjudication for weeks now but noticed something changed yesterday. The adjudication entry previously showed a date of 11/16, but now it says "adjudication in progress" with 12/12 as the date (which is today). Does this date change actually mean someone is working on my case? Or is it just some automated system update that doesn't really mean anything? I'm getting desperate since I've been waiting so long and bills are piling up. Has anyone seen their dates change like this and what ended up happening?

yeah this happened to me last month, the date changed twice during my adjudication. from what i understand, it usually means someone picked up your case or theyre moving it to a different adjudicator. mine got resolved about 8 days after the last date change

•That gives me some hope! Did you do anything to make it move faster or did it just happen on its own?

DONT GET EXCITED YET! The ESD system updates dates automatically sometimes without any actual progress. My claim had 4 different date changes over TWO MONTHS and still nothing happened. They just shuffle cases around between different queues to make it look like they're doing something. The whole system is designed to make you give up!!!

•this is exactly right! my cousin works at ESD (not in claims dept) but she says theyre massively understaffed and the system often changes dates automatically when batches of claims get reassigned. doesnt actually mean anyone is looking at your specific case yet

In my experience, a date change typically does indicate some kind of activity on your claim, though not necessarily resolution. When the date changes to the current date, it often means your case has been assigned to an adjudicator or has moved to a new phase of review. This is generally a positive sign. However, the time from assignment to resolution can still vary widely. Some claims are resolved within days of the date change, while others might require additional weeks if there are complex issues or if additional information is needed from employers or other parties. In the meantime, make sure you continue filing your weekly claims without interruption, even while in adjudication. This ensures you'll receive all benefits you're entitled to once your claim is approved.

•Thanks for the detailed explanation. I've definitely been keeping up with my weekly claims. Hoping this means someone is actually looking at my case now!

Have you tried reaching out to ESD directly? While date changes can indicate movement, it's always best to confirm with a representative. I recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an ESD agent quickly instead of waiting on hold for hours. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 that shows how it works. I was in adjudication for over a month, used their service to connect with an agent, and the agent was able to expedite my case when they saw how long I'd been waiting. Worth considering if you're really in a financial bind.

•I'll check that out! I've tried calling multiple times but always get the "high call volume" message and get disconnected. At this point I'm willing to try anything that might help.

•is that service legit? seems weird to pay someone else just to call unemployment for you

•It is legitimate - they essentially use technology to navigate the phone system and secure a place in line for you. Many claimants find it helpful when they've been unable to get through on their own. That said, there are also free alternatives like contacting your state representative's office, which can sometimes help with stuck claims.

In my professional experience working with unemployment claims (though not specifically for WA ESD), date changes in an adjudication status typically indicate that your claim has been touched by the system or an adjudicator in some way. When the date updates to the current date, it often means: 1. Your case has been assigned or reassigned to an adjudicator 2. The system has moved your claim to a different priority queue 3. Additional information was received and attached to your claim 4. A review of your case has begun The positive sign here is that your claim hasn't been forgotten in the system. However, adjudication times still vary widely based on claim complexity and current department workloads. Did you receive any fact-finding questionnaires or requests for additional information? If yes and you've responded to all of them, that would further support that your claim is actively progressing.

•I received and responded to a fact-finding questionnaire about 3 weeks ago, right after I initially applied. Haven't gotten any other requests since then. Hopefully that means they have everything they need!

•That's good! If they needed additional information, they would typically send another request. The date change combined with no new information requests suggests they're working with what they already have. Continue to monitor your online account daily and ensure you're completing your weekly claims properly.

My brother just went thru this whole adjudication mess last month. His dates changed like 3 times and he was soooo stressed about rent. He finally called his state rep's office (the local elected official) and MAGICALLY his claim got approved like 2 days later. Might be worth trying if nothing happens soon?

•THIS!!! They only move when someone important calls them out! The regular phone line is useless!

Update: My claim was approved today! The date change really did mean someone was working on it. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions. For anyone else stuck in adjudication - hang in there and definitely pay attention to date changes in your account!

•Great news! Did they approve the claim with full benefits for all weeks, including the adjudication period? Make sure to check your payment details to confirm everything was processed correctly.

•Yes, they approved it for all weeks! The payment is already pending in my account. Such a relief after all that stress!
