PA UC dashboard showing fewer open issues - what does this mean for my claim?

I'm in the middle of my unemployment claim process and noticed something weird on my dashboard. Last week I had 5 open issues listed, but when I checked yesterday there were only 3 showing. I haven't received any emails or messages explaining this change. Is this a good sign that they're resolving things? Or should I be worried that something's wrong with my claim? Has anyone experienced their open issues number decreasing without any notification? I'm not sure if I should call them about this or just wait it out. Really anxious about whether my payments will start soon!

This is usually a positive sign! When open issues decrease without notification, it typically means examiners are actively working through your claim. Each "open issue" represents something they need to verify or review. As they resolve these items, they disappear from your account. I wouldn't call them unless this status stays the same for more than 10 business days. Keep filing your weekly claims in the meantime.

That's a relief to hear! Do you know if they typically resolve all issues at once, or work through them one by one? Just wondering if I should expect the remaining 3 to disappear soon too.

same thing happened to me but then another issue appeared the next day so idk might be the system glitching. thats what the lady told me when i finally got thru on the phones

Ugh this system is ridiculous!! Mine went from 3 to 6 to 2 issues in a WEEK with zero explanation. Been waiting 8 weeks with no payment. How can they expect people to pay bills???

They absolutely work through issues one by one. Each open issue represents a specific question about your eligibility or claim details. Some common ones include employment verification, separation reason confirmation, or wage investigations. When an issue disappears, it means an examiner has made a determination on that specific question. The remaining issues still need to be reviewed separately. In my experience, the average processing time for each issue is 2-3 business days, but it can vary widely depending on complexity and current workload. Don't be surprised if the remaining issues take different amounts of time to resolve, especially if they require information from your former employer.

when I had open issues last month they actually sent me a message in my dashboard inbox for each one they resolved. did you check your messages? sometimes they put important stuff there but forget to email you about it

I went through EXACTLY this in February! Started with 7 open issues (mostly related to my job separation) and they dropped to 4, then 2, then finally all gone over about 3 weeks. Here's what I learned: they don't notify you about every resolution, only if they need more info or when your claim is fully approved/denied. In my case, I eventually got ONE determination letter covering all the issues at once. The frustrating part was never knowing what each issue actually was! But yes, this is GOOD news - it means progress is happening. Just keep checking daily and keep filing those weekly claims even while waiting!

Thank you! This makes me feel better. Did you get backpay for all the weeks you claimed while waiting for the issues to be resolved?

i had this happen then my claim got denied. they said i didn't respond to an information request but i never got one!!!! make sure u check your spam folders and everything

This is an important point. PA UC sometimes sends requests for information that end up in spam folders or get lost in the mail. I recommend checking your dashboard messages daily AND your spam folder. Also, make sure your contact information is up to date in the system.

@original poster - Yes! I did get backpay for all weeks once they resolved everything. It came in one lump sum about 4 days after the final determination letter. If they approve your claim, they should pay for all eligible weeks you've certified for (minus the waiting week if that applies to your claim).

That's awesome to hear. I've been filing faithfully every week even though nothing is coming through yet. Fingers crossed mine gets resolved the same way!

I HATE the PA unemployment system with a PASSION!!! You can NEVER get a straight answer from anyone and they make it IMPOSSIBLE to reach an actual human being!! I had 4 open issues that disappeared one by one but my claim was still stuck for WEEKS after that with no payment!!! Finally had to fight tooth and nail just to get someone on the phone who could tell me what was going on!!! The whole thing is DESIGNED to make you give up!!! 😡😡😡

how did you finally get through? i've been calling for days and can't get past the busy signal

@commentor - I had the same problem trying to reach someone at UC. After 2 weeks of constant busy signals, I tried a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an agent in less than an hour. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 It was honestly such a relief to finally talk to a real person who could explain what was happening with my claim. The agent told me exactly which issues were resolved and which were still pending, plus she gave me a timeframe for when to expect my determination letter.

thanks! gonna check that out right now. been trying to call for 3 days straight with no luck

To answer the original question more directly: When open issues decrease, it means claims examiners have made determinations on some of your eligibility questions but not all. This is normal progression. Each issue is tied to specific eligibility criteria like: 1. Reason for separation from employer 2. Ability and availability for work 3. Income verification 4. Identity verification 5. Job search compliance They often resolve the simpler issues first (like identity verification) before tackling more complex ones that might require employer input. Based on your timeline, I'd expect resolution within 2-3 weeks total, assuming there are no complications with your remaining issues.

This is incredibly helpful, thank you! One of my issues appeared right after I entered my work search activities, so maybe that one's being reviewed. I'll keep filing and watching my dashboard.

Wouldn't surprise me AT ALL. The PA system is from like 1982 or something!!

One final tip - if your open issues have been decreasing, you're on the right track. Continue to monitor your dashboard daily, check your message inbox in the PA UC portal (not just your email), and keep filing your weekly certifications without fail. The most common mistake people make is stopping their weekly claims while waiting for open issues to resolve. Even though you're not receiving payments yet, those weeks will be paid retroactively if your claim is approved. Based on current processing times, if you're down from 5 to 3 issues, you'll likely see movement on the remaining issues within 7-14 days. The system is slow but does work eventually!

Thanks everyone for all the advice! I'll keep filing and watching my dashboard. Feeling much more optimistic now that I understand what's happening. Will update when the remaining issues get resolved!

I'm going through something similar right now! Had 4 open issues last Monday and now I'm down to 2. Like others mentioned, I haven't gotten any notifications about the resolved ones, but I did find a message in my dashboard inbox (under the Messages tab) that explained one of the resolutions. One thing that's helped me stay sane during this process is keeping a little log of when issues disappear and any changes I see. That way if I do need to call, I have dates and details ready. The waiting is absolutely nerve-wracking but it sounds like you're making good progress! Keep doing those weekly certifications - that's the most important thing right now.

That's such a smart idea about keeping a log! I wish I had thought of that earlier. I'm definitely going to start tracking the dates and any changes I notice. It's reassuring to hear from someone else going through the same thing right now. The waiting really is the hardest part when you're trying to pay bills and have no idea when relief is coming. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I just went through this exact same situation about a month ago! Started with 6 open issues and watched them drop to 4, then 2, then finally zero over the course of about 2.5 weeks. Like others have said, this is definitely a good sign - it means examiners are actively working on your claim. One thing I learned is that they don't always send notifications for each resolved issue, but sometimes you can find updates in your dashboard messages. The key is to keep filing your weekly certifications no matter what - I almost stopped doing mine thinking it didn't matter, but thankfully I kept going because when my claim was finally approved, I got backpay for every week I had certified. My advice: check your dashboard daily, look in your messages section, keep filing weekly, and try not to stress too much about the remaining 3 issues. Based on my timeline, you should see more progress within the next week or two. Hang in there!

Thank you so much for sharing your timeline! It's really encouraging to hear from someone who went through the exact same thing recently. I'm definitely going to keep filing my weekly certifications - seems like that's the #1 thing everyone emphasizes. Did you notice any pattern to which issues got resolved first, or was it pretty random? I'm trying not to obsess over it but it's hard when you're waiting for that financial relief!

This happened to me too - went from 6 open issues down to 1 over about 3 weeks back in January. What really helped me was calling the customer service line early in the morning (like right at 8am when they open) to get through faster. The rep was able to tell me exactly what each resolved issue was and gave me a realistic timeline for the remaining ones. The decrease is definitely a positive sign! It means they're making actual progress on your case. Just make sure you're checking both your email AND the messages in your dashboard - sometimes they only post updates in one place. And definitely keep filing those weekly certifications religiously. When mine finally got approved, I got a lump sum for all the weeks I'd been waiting. Stay strong, you're almost there!

That's a great tip about calling right at 8am! I've been trying random times during the day with no luck. It's so helpful to hear that the rep could actually explain what each resolved issue was - that would give me so much peace of mind right now. I'm definitely going to try the early morning approach tomorrow. Thanks for the encouragement about being "almost there" - really needed to hear that today!

I'm dealing with something very similar right now! My open issues went from 6 down to 2 over the past two weeks, and like you, I didn't get any direct notifications about the resolved ones. It's been such a rollercoaster of emotions - one day feeling hopeful when I see progress, the next day panicking that something might be wrong. What's helped me is creating a simple spreadsheet to track the changes I see on my dashboard each day, along with any messages or emails I receive. That way I have a clear timeline if I need to reference it later. I've also been religious about filing my weekly certifications even though no money is coming through yet - everyone here emphasizes how important that is for getting backpay. The waiting is absolutely brutal when you're stressed about bills and expenses. But reading through all these responses is giving me hope that we're both on the right track. Sounds like 2-3 weeks total processing time is pretty normal once they start actively working through the issues. Fingers crossed we both see those remaining issues disappear soon!

The spreadsheet idea is brilliant! I wish I had started tracking everything from the beginning. It's so reassuring to connect with others going through the exact same timeline right now. The emotional rollercoaster part really hits home - I'll be feeling optimistic when I see an issue disappear, then immediately start worrying about what the remaining ones might be. Your point about staying religious with the weekly certifications is so important too. Even though it feels pointless when no payments are coming, everyone who's been through this stresses how crucial it is for that eventual backpay. Thanks for sharing your experience and keeping hope alive that we'll both see those final issues resolve soon!
