PA UC approval email followed immediately by 'under review' email - totally confused!
So I've been waiting on my PA unemployment claim for almost 3 weeks now (status showed 'under review'). Yesterday I finally got an email saying I was APPROVED - I was so relieved! But then literally 30 minutes later, I got another email saying my claim is 'still being reviewed' and that I 'may not be eligible.' What?? Has anyone dealt with this before? I'm completely confused about my status now. Do I start filing weekly claims or not? The first email had my financial determination amount ($487/week) but the second one makes it sound like nothing is decided. I tried calling but of course couldn't get through to a human. Is the PA UC system just sending contradictory emails or is something actually wrong with my claim?

•Really? So you think I can ignore the second email? Did you start filing weekly claims right away or did you wait for something else first?

This is a common issue with the PA UC system right now. The first email (approval) is generated when your monetary eligibility is determined. The second email is often an automated notification about identity or separation issues that might still need review. If you received a financial determination with a weekly benefit amount, you should start filing your weekly claims immediately, even while other issues are being resolved. The system will hold payments until all issues are cleared, but you must file weekly to preserve your claim weeks.

•Thank you so much for explaining! So even though that second email scared me, I should still file my weekly claims? I'm worried they'll say I'm committing fraud or something if I file while they're still reviewing things.

The SAME EXACT THING just happened to me and I've been freaking out for days!!!! I got the approval email with my benefit amount ($412/week) on Tuesday morning and then got the review email that afternoon. UC system is a JOKE.

The two emails you received are addressing different aspects of your claim. The first email confirms your monetary eligibility based on your past wages, which is why it included your weekly benefit amount of $487. The second email is likely referring to non-monetary eligibility issues that need to be resolved (like reason for separation, ability/availability to work, etc.). Definitely start filing your weekly claims right away. Even while issues are pending review, you need to file weekly to eventually receive those benefit payments once everything is cleared. It's not fraud to file while issues are being resolved - it's actually required. You should also check your dashboard online for any "open issues" that might explain what's being reviewed. Sometimes they need additional documentation or information from you.

•I just checked my dashboard and there's something that says "separation information" with a status of "pending". Maybe that's what they're still looking into? My employer laid me off but maybe they need to verify that?

I've been dealing with the PA UC system for 4 MONTHS and it's complete chaos. Always contradicting itself. I got SIX different emails in one day once - approved, denied, approved again, more info needed... it's madness. Even the workers don't understand their own system. I only finally got it resolved after I managed to get through to an actual person who fixed all the glitches in my account.

I was in the exact same situation last month with these confusing mixed messages. After struggling for almost two weeks trying to reach someone at PA UC with no luck, I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an agent. They have this system that basically waits on hold for you and then calls you when they get a rep on the line. Saved me hours of frustration! They have a demo video of how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 The agent I spoke with explained that the system often sends automated emails that contradict each other. In my case, the first approval email was correct, and the second one was just because they were verifying my identity. Getting it clarified gave me peace of mind.

•I'm checking this out right now because I'm going CRAZY trying to figure out my status. Did they actually get you through to someone? And did you have to wait long after using it?

To answer your question - yes, they did get me through to a real person after about 20 minutes. The agent confirmed my approval was valid and explained that the second email was sent because they were still reviewing my identity documents, but that wouldn't affect my monetary eligibility. They told me to go ahead and file my weekly claims.

I think everyone is overthinking this. Just wait a few days and you'll probably get another email clearing everything up. The system is just slow. My neighbor's daughter works for UC and says they're always backed up. if u got a WBA amount ur probably approved, just be patient.

•BAD ADVICE. Do NOT just "wait a few days" - you need to be filing your weekly claims regardless! Missing weeks can't be made up later, and if you wait too long thinking you're "being patient" you could lose benefits. The system being slow doesn't change the filing requirements.

Update: I finally got through to someone at UC by using the Claimyr service that someone suggested. The representative confirmed that my monetary determination was correct ($487/week), and the second email was automatically triggered because they're verifying my identity documents. She said this won't affect my eligibility based on wages, but might delay payments until the ID verification is complete. She also confirmed I should absolutely be filing my weekly claims starting immediately! Thanks everyone for your help figuring this out.

•That's great news! Glad you got clear information. Make sure you're completing your work search activities each week too (applying to jobs or other qualifying activities). They've been stricter about work search requirements in 2025.

My sister works for the unemployment office (not in PA though). She says their systems are ancient and often send out emails in the wrong order or duplicate notifications. The important thing is what your dashboard shows. If it shows a weekly benefit amount, you're at least monetarily eligible. But yeah deffinetly File weekly claims! Otherwise when everythings fixed youll have lost all those weeks.
