How can I tell if my PA UC claim was approved or denied? Stuck in limbo for weeks
I filed my initial unemployment claim about 3 weeks ago and I'm totally confused about where things stand. The PA UC website shows my claim as "processed" but I haven't received any determination letter or payments. The dashboard just shows $0.00 benefit amount. I've tried calling the UC service center at least 20 times but can't get through - always busy signals or the automated message saying call volume is too high. Is there a specific status that tells me if I'm approved or denied? Where exactly on the portal should I be looking? This is my first time on unemployment and I'm starting to panic about bills piling up.

Look for a 'Claim Status' or 'Monetary Determination' section on your dashboard. If it shows 'processed' but no payment, you might have an 'open issue' that needs resolving. PA UC doesn't always make these issues visible in the portal, but they'll stop payments until resolved. Also check your correspondence/message center for any determination letters - sometimes they're only posted there without email notification. If your financial determination shows $0, that could mean they couldn't verify your wages or you have an eligibility issue they're investigating.

•Thanks for the response. I checked my correspondence section and don't see anything except the initial confirmation that I filed. No determination letter at all. Where exactly would it show if I have an open issue? I don't see anything labeled that way in my dashboard.

The same thing happnd to me last month. They never sent me any letters at all and my claim was stuck for like 6 weeks!! I had to keep calling and calling. turns out they needed additional info on my last employer but never told me. So frustrating!!

•Wow 6 weeks?? I can't wait that long! Did you ever find a good time to call when it wasn't constantly busy?

I went through this nightmare in January. The PA UC system is designed to be confusing! Here's what you need to know: 1. "Processed" only means they received your application 2. You need a "Financial Determination" letter that shows your weekly benefit amount 3. Even AFTER that, you could have eligibility issues they're reviewing Check your dashboard for "Issues and Determinations" - that's where problems show up. And the $0.00 is a RED FLAG - means either they couldn't verify your wages OR you have a pending issue. BTW - I spent TWO WEEKS trying to get through on the phone before I found Claimyr (claimyr.com). They connect you directly to UC agents without the wait. Saved me hours of busy signals. They have a demo video here: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. Worth every penny when you're desperate for answers.

To directly answer your question: You're NOT officially approved until you receive a Financial Determination letter with a benefit amount greater than $0 AND you have no unresolved eligibility issues. Here's how to check your full status: 1. Log into your PA UC dashboard 2. Click on "Claim Summary" - this shows your weekly benefit amount if determined 3. Click on "View Claim History" - shows payments issued/pending 4. Check "Issues and Determinations" - shows any eligibility questions 5. Review "Correspondence" - all official decisions come here The most common reasons for delays are: - Missing/incomplete employer information - Questions about your separation reason (quit/fired/laid off) - Wage verification issues - Work search requirement questions Unfortunately, many issues aren't visible in the portal. The only way to know for sure is to speak with an agent. I recommend calling right when they open at 8:00 AM (but even that's no guarantee).

•Thank you so much for the detailed explanation! I checked and found an "Issues and Determinations" section I didn't notice before. It shows "Separation Information Needed" but doesn't explain what exactly they need. I'm definitely going to try calling at 8 AM tomorrow.

The UC system is GARBAGE by design!!! They WANT you to give up and not collect benefits. I had a "processed" claim for over 8 WEEKS with no explanation. Called 50+ times. My advice? FILE AN APPEAL even if you haven't gotten a denial. The appeal triggers them to actually look at your claim!!!

•Filing an appeal without a determination isn't technically possible - you need something to appeal. But contacting your state representative's office can help. They have direct lines to UC staff that can push claims through faster.

•Maybe officially it's not an "appeal" but I filled out the appeal form anyway explaining I hadn't received a determination and MAGICALLY my claim got fixed within a week. Just saying what worked for me!

Update based on your comments: Since you found "Separation Information Needed" under Issues and Determinations, that's exactly why your claim is on hold. They need more details about how your employment ended (laid off, fired, quit, etc). This won't resolve itself without you providing that information. Two options: 1. Upload the requested information through your dashboard if there's a link to do so 2. Speak with an agent who can take that information over the phone Once you provide what they need, they typically make a determination within 1-2 weeks. Until then, no payments will be issued, but if approved, you'll receive back payments for all eligible weeks.

•I've looked everywhere and there's no link to upload anything for the separation issue. I was laid off due to budget cuts and thought I explained that clearly in my initial application. This is so frustrating! I'll definitely try calling again tomorrow morning.

Quick update on my earlier comment - I just remembered that the "Issues and Determinations" section doesn't always show what documents they actually need. Sometimes they send a paper questionnaire to your physical mailing address instead of through the portal. Have you checked your regular mail? They might have sent something there weeks ago with a deadline to respond.

•OMG you might be right! I've been checking my email and online portal but not my physical mailbox very often since I get almost everything electronically these days. I'll check today when I get home. Thank you for this tip!

UPDATE: You guys were all so helpful! I checked my mail and found a form they sent 2 weeks ago asking for more details about my layoff. I filled it out and faxed it back today. Also, I managed to get through to someone by calling exactly at 8:00 AM. The rep confirmed they needed that form and said once they receive it, they should make a determination within 5-7 business days. She also verified my wages were sufficient for benefits, so assuming no other issues, I should be approved. Thank you all for your help navigating this confusing system!

•Great news! Make sure you continue filing your weekly claims even while waiting for the determination. If approved, you'll only get paid for weeks you properly certified. And once approved, don't forget you need to record your work search activities each week (apply to 2+ jobs and complete 1+ work search activity).

That's awesome that you got through and found the missing form! This is exactly why I always tell people to check their physical mail - PA UC still sends a lot of important stuff via regular mail even though we live in a digital world. Sounds like you're on the right track now. Just keep filing those weekly claims like others mentioned, and hopefully you'll see your back payments hit your account soon after the determination. Good luck with the job search too!

So glad you got through and found the missing form! This is such a common issue with PA UC - they'll send critical paperwork via regular mail but not always notify you online that they've sent it. For anyone else reading this thread, definitely check your physical mailbox regularly during the claims process, even if you've opted for electronic communications. PA UC seems to use both systems inconsistently. Also, great job on continuing to file your weekly claims while waiting - that's crucial for getting your back pay once approved. Keep us posted on how it goes!

•This thread has been incredibly helpful to read through! I'm dealing with a similar situation - filed 2 weeks ago and my claim shows "processed" but $0 benefits. After reading all these responses, I realize I need to check my physical mailbox more carefully and look for that "Issues and Determinations" section. It's crazy how confusing they make this system when people are already stressed about being unemployed. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - it really helps to know what to look for!

This whole thread is such a perfect example of how broken the PA UC system is! I'm currently dealing with a similar situation - filed 4 weeks ago, shows "processed" but stuck at $0 with no determination letter. After reading through everyone's experiences, I checked my physical mailbox today and sure enough, there was a form from 3 weeks ago that I completely missed! It was asking for employment verification documents. I'm going to fax it back tomorrow and try the 8 AM calling strategy. It's ridiculous that they don't send email notifications when they mail these critical forms. Thank you all for sharing your stories - this thread probably saved me weeks of confusion!

•I'm so glad this thread is helping people! It's really frustrating how PA UC doesn't make it clear when they've sent important paperwork by mail. I went through something similar last year and it took me forever to figure out what was holding up my claim. One tip that might help - when you fax that form back, make sure to call and confirm they received it a few days later. Sometimes faxes get lost in their system and you'll be waiting weeks thinking they're processing it when they never got it. Also, keep a copy of everything you send and note the date/time you faxed it. The whole system definitely needs an overhaul to be more user-friendly for people who are already dealing with the stress of unemployment.

This thread is a goldmine of information! I'm dealing with the exact same issue right now - filed 5 weeks ago, shows "processed" but stuck at $0. Reading through everyone's experiences, I realize I've been making the classic mistake of only checking online for updates. I'm definitely going to check my physical mailbox today for any forms they might have sent. It's honestly mind-boggling that in 2025, PA UC is still relying so heavily on physical mail without proper digital notifications. The fact that so many people are experiencing identical issues really shows how systemic this problem is with their communication process. Thank you to everyone who shared their stories and solutions - this is exactly the kind of real-world guidance that the official UC website doesn't provide!

•You're absolutely right about this being a systemic communication issue! I went through something similar a few months ago and it's shocking how many people get stuck in this exact same loop. One thing I learned that might help you and others - when you do find any forms in your mailbox, take photos of them before filling them out. That way you have a record of exactly what they were asking for and when you received it. Also, if you end up having to call multiple times, keep a log of when you called, who you spoke with (if anyone), and what they told you. The inconsistency between agents can be frustrating, but having that documentation can be really helpful if you need to escalate later. Hopefully you find that missing paperwork today and can get your claim moving forward!

This entire thread should be required reading for anyone filing for PA UC! I'm currently in week 3 of the same situation - "processed" status but $0 benefits. After reading all these experiences, I just realized I need to check several things I've been overlooking: 1. Physical mailbox for forms (haven't checked in weeks!) 2. The "Issues and Determinations" section more carefully 3. Try the 8 AM calling strategy It's honestly shocking how many of us are dealing with identical issues. The fact that PA UC sends critical paperwork via regular mail without any online notification is just terrible system design, especially when people are already stressed about finances. One question for those who successfully resolved this - when you called and spoke to an agent, were they able to tell you exactly what documentation was still needed, or did you have to guess based on what you found in your mailbox? I want to be prepared when I finally get through to someone. Thanks to everyone who shared their stories here - this thread is more helpful than anything on the official PA UC website!

•When I finally got through to an agent, they were able to see exactly what was holding up my claim and tell me specifically what they needed. In my case, they could see that they had sent a "separation questionnaire" 3 weeks prior and were waiting for it to be returned. The agent was also able to confirm they had my correct mailing address and give me the fax number to send it back faster than regular mail. So definitely try calling - if you get through, they should be able to give you specific details about what's missing rather than you having to guess. Just be prepared with your SSN and claim confirmation number ready when you call. The 8 AM strategy really does work better - I got through on my second try that way after weeks of busy signals calling at random times. Good luck!

Wow, this thread has been incredibly eye-opening! I'm in a very similar situation - filed about 4 weeks ago, status shows "processed" but stuck at $0 with no determination letter. Reading through everyone's experiences, I realize I've been making some critical mistakes: 1. I've been relying entirely on the online portal and email notifications 2. Haven't thoroughly checked my physical mailbox for PA UC mail 3. Didn't even know to look for the "Issues and Determinations" section It's honestly ridiculous that in 2025, PA UC's system is so poorly designed that people have to play detective just to figure out what's holding up their claims. The fact that they send critical paperwork via regular mail without any digital notification is just terrible customer service, especially for people who are already dealing with financial stress. I'm definitely going to check my mailbox today and try the 8 AM calling strategy tomorrow. Thank you to everyone who shared their stories and solutions - this community support is invaluable when the official system is so confusing and unhelpful. I'll update if I find any missing paperwork or manage to get through to an agent!

•This thread has been such a lifesaver! I'm dealing with almost the exact same situation - filed 3.5 weeks ago, "processed" status but $0 benefits and no determination letter. Reading through everyone's experiences made me realize I've been doing everything wrong too. I've been obsessively checking the online portal and my email but completely ignoring my physical mailbox because I assumed everything would be digital these days. It's absolutely mind-blowing that PA UC still operates like it's 1995 with critical paperwork sent via regular mail and no online notifications. I'm heading to check my mailbox right after work today and will definitely try the 8 AM calling strategy tomorrow. The fact that so many people are experiencing this exact same communication breakdown really shows how broken their system is. This thread is absolutely incredible and should honestly be pinned at the top of this community! I'm currently going through the exact same nightmare - filed my initial claim 6 weeks ago and have been stuck in limbo with a "processed" status but $0 benefits. Like so many others here, I made the critical mistake of assuming everything would be handled digitally and completely ignored my physical mailbox. After reading through all these experiences, I just went and checked my mail for the first time in weeks - and sure enough, there was a "Notice of Financial Determination" dated 3 weeks ago that I completely missed! It was buried under a pile of junk mail. The form is asking for additional wage verification from my previous employer. What's absolutely infuriating is that there's NO indication anywhere in the online portal that they sent this critical paperwork. The "Correspondence" section shows nothing, and there was zero email notification. How are people supposed to know to check for physical mail when everything else in 2025 is digital? I'm going to fax this form back first thing tomorrow morning and try the 8 AM calling strategy that several people mentioned. This thread has been more helpful than weeks of trying to navigate the PA UC website on my own. Thank you to everyone who shared their stories - you've probably saved me months of confusion and financial stress! The fact that so many people are dealing with this exact same communication breakdown really shows that PA UC needs a complete system overhaul. Nobody should have to play detective just to access unemployment benefits they're entitled to.

•I'm so glad you found that form! Your experience is exactly what I went through a few months ago - it's like they deliberately hide these critical documents in your regular mail while keeping the online portal completely silent about it. The "Notice of Financial Determination" is usually the key piece that gets people unstuck, so you're definitely on the right track now. When you fax it back, make sure to follow up with a phone call in a few days to confirm they received it - their fax system can be unreliable too. Also, keep filing your weekly claims even while waiting for this to process, because if/when you get approved, you'll only receive back pay for weeks you properly certified. This thread really has become the unofficial PA UC survival guide! It's honestly shameful that we have to crowdsource basic information about how their own system works because their communication is so terrible. But I'm grateful this community exists to help people navigate this broken process. Hopefully your determination comes through quickly once they get that form!

This thread has been absolutely invaluable! I'm in week 2 of the same situation - filed my claim, shows "processed" but stuck at $0 with no determination. Reading everyone's experiences here has been a real wake-up call about checking physical mail. I've been so focused on the online portal that I completely forgot they might be sending actual paper forms to my mailbox. What really strikes me is how many people are dealing with this identical issue - it's clearly a systemic problem with how PA UC communicates (or fails to communicate) with claimants. The fact that they send critical paperwork via regular mail with zero online notification is just baffling in 2025. I'm definitely going to check my mailbox today and look more carefully at that "Issues and Determinations" section. Also planning to try the 8 AM calling strategy that multiple people have mentioned works better than calling at random times throughout the day. Thank you to everyone who shared their stories and solutions - this community support is honestly more helpful than anything I've found on the official PA UC website. This entire thread perfectly captures the PA UC nightmare that so many of us are going through! I'm currently in week 4 of the exact same situation - filed my claim, got "processed" status, but stuck at $0 with no determination letter. Reading through everyone's experiences here has been both enlightening and frustrating - enlightening because now I know what to look for, but frustrating because it's clear this is a widespread systemic failure. Like many others, I made the mistake of assuming everything would be handled digitally and have been completely ignoring my physical mailbox. After reading this thread, I immediately went to check and found TWO forms that PA UC sent weeks ago that I never knew existed! One was a separation questionnaire and another was asking for wage verification. Both were buried under junk mail with no online notification whatsoever. The fact that in 2025, PA UC is still operating like it's the 1990s - sending critical paperwork via regular mail with zero digital notifications - is absolutely inexcusable. People are already stressed about being unemployed and shouldn't have to play detective just to access benefits they're entitled to. •I'm so glad you found those forms! Your experience is exactly what happened to me a few months ago - it's like PA UC deliberately hides these critical documents in regular mail while keeping everyone in the dark online. Finding two forms at once must have been both a relief (finally knowing what's holding things up) and incredibly frustrating (realizing how long you've been waiting unnecessarily). When you fax those forms back, I'd recommend calling a day or two later to confirm they received them - their fax system can be hit or miss. Also, make sure you're continuing to file your weekly claims while waiting for the determination, because you'll only get back pay for weeks you properly certified. This thread has been absolutely incredible to read through! I'm currently in week 5 of dealing with the exact same issue - filed my claim, shows "processed" but stuck at $0 with no determination letter. Reading everyone's experiences here has been both a huge relief (knowing I'm not alone) and incredibly frustrating (realizing how broken the PA UC system really is). Like so many others, I made the classic mistake of assuming everything would be digital and completely ignored my physical mailbox. After reading through all these stories, I rushed to check my mail today and found a "Request for Additional Information" form dated almost 3 weeks ago! It was asking for details about my work search activities during my last few weeks of employment. No wonder my claim has been stuck - they've been waiting for information I didn't even know they needed! The fact that PA UC sends these critical forms via regular mail with absolutely NO online notification is just mind-boggling in 2025. The online portal gives zero indication that they've sent anything, and the "Correspondence" section remains empty while people wait in limbo for weeks or months. I'm filling out this form tonight and will fax it first thing tomorrow morning, then try the 8 AM calling strategy that so many people have mentioned. •I'm so glad you found that form! It's amazing how many of us have had the exact same experience - weeks of confusion and stress that could have been avoided with just a simple email notification that they sent something important. The "Request for Additional Information" form sounds like it should be a quick fix once you get it back to them. When you fax it tomorrow, definitely follow the advice others have given about calling to confirm they received it. I've heard too many stories of people waiting weeks thinking their paperwork was being processed when it actually got lost in their system. This whole thread really shows how widespread this communication problem is with PA UC. It's honestly shocking that in an era where we get instant notifications for everything from pizza delivery to social media likes, PA UC is still operating like it's 1995 with no digital integration between their mail system and online portal. I hope your determination comes through quickly once they get that form! •You're absolutely on the right track! I just went through this exact same process last month and your plan sounds perfect. The 8 AM calling strategy really does work - I got through on my third try that way after weeks of busy signals at other times. When you check your mailbox today, look carefully through everything because PA UC forms can sometimes look like junk mail or get mixed in with other official-looking documents. Also, when you do find any forms (which you probably will based on everyone else's experiences), take photos before filling them out so you have a record. The "Issues and Determinations" section is usually where you'll see something vague like "Additional Information Needed" or "Separation Information Required" - it won't tell you exactly what they sent, but at least you'll know there's something holding up your claim. This thread has been such a lifesaver for so many people dealing with PA UC's terrible communication system!
