PA UC appeal won but status still shows 'disqualified' - when will I get back payments?
Just had my appeal hearing yesterday and won because my employer was a no-show. The referee told me I qualify for benefits, but when I checked my dashboard this morning, all my weekly certifications still show 'disqualified' status. Has anyone been through this? How long does it typically take for the system to update after winning an appeal? The website says 2-4 weeks for processing but that seems crazy long when bills are piling up. I've already been waiting 7 weeks since initial disqualification! Anyone know if there's a way to speed this up or at least confirm that they're actually processing it?

Congrats on winning your appeal! Unfortunately the 2-4 weeks timeframe is pretty accurate in my experience. The system doesn't update automatically after hearings - the referee has to submit their decision, then it goes to a separate department that processes the changes and releases payments. My status took exactly 17 days to change from disqualified to eligible after my appeal win last year.

•17 days?! That's ridiculous. Did they at least pay you interest for holding your money for so long? I'm already behind on rent because of this whole mess.

•Thanks, that's actually reassuring to hear someone else had it resolve eventually. Did you keep filing weekly claims during that waiting period?

The UC system is DELIBERATELY SLOW to discourage people!! They know exactly what they're doing making us wait weeks for OUR MONEY after we've already proven we deserve it. I waited 5 WEEKS after my appeal before anything changed, and that was only after I called my state rep's office and complained. The whole system is designed to make you give up!!

•exactly!!! they hope people will just give up and stop trying to get whats owed to them. its all about saving money for the state.

It's important to continue filing your weekly claims even while the system still shows "disqualified" status. Once they update your status after the appeal win, they'll release payments for all eligible weeks you've certified. The timeline varies, but 2-3 weeks is typical in my experience working with claimants. Make sure you have a copy of your favorable appeal decision. If it goes beyond 4 weeks, you should follow up with the UC service center, though reaching them can be challenging.

•Thanks, I'll definitely keep filing. The referee did give me a paper copy of the decision before I left, so I have that. I tried calling the service center this morning but couldn't get through - just endless busy signals.

If you need to reach a PA UC rep quickly, try using Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was in the same situation last month - won my appeal but nothing changed for 2 weeks. I used their service and got through to a rep in about 30 minutes instead of spending days trying to call. They have a video demo here: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 The rep I spoke with was able to escalate my case and I got my payments about 5 days later. Definitely worth it instead of waiting the full month.

•Thanks for the tip! I'm going to check this out right now. Did they give you any timeline when you called?

my cousin works for PA and said appeals are super backlogged right now fyi. but that was only for new appeals, maybe processing after winning is faster? idk just passing along what I heard

•Appeal hearings and appeal processing are handled by different departments, so the backlog for scheduling hearings doesn't necessarily affect how quickly an already-decided appeal gets implemented. But good info nonetheless.

When I called using Claimyr, the rep confirmed they received my appeal decision but said it was in a processing queue. She flagged it as urgent and told me it should be completed within 7-10 days. It actually took 5 days. They can't guarantee a specific timeframe, but at least you'll know it's being worked on.

•Just wanted to update - I used Claimyr this morning and got through to someone in about 20 mins. The rep confirmed they received my appeal decision but it hadn't been processed yet. They flagged it as urgent since I'm facing eviction. Fingers crossed something happens soon. Thanks everyone for the advice!

my husband won his appeal in febuary and they never fixed it!!! he had to file ANOTHER appeal just to get them to actually implement the first appeal decision. its ridiculous how they operate. make sure you document everything

•THIS!!! Happened to my brother too! He waited 6 weeks after winning, called multiple times, and they told him "it's in process" every time. Finally had to contact his state rep to get it resolved. KEEP EVERYTHING - emails, decision letters, confirmation numbers when you call!!

One thing that might help - check your portal to see if your appeal is listed in the "Determinations & Issue Status" section. If it shows the appeal as decided in your favor there, but your weekly claims still show as disqualified, that's normal during processing. If the appeal decision isn't showing up in that section at all yet, that might indicate the referee's decision hasn't been entered into the system.

•Good point - I just checked and it does show the appeal as "Allowed" under Determinations, but weekly claims still show disqualified. I guess that means it's in the system but waiting for processing. I'll update when something changes!

That's a good sign that your appeal shows as "Allowed" in the system! I went through the exact same thing last summer - won my appeal but had to wait 19 days for the weekly claims to flip from disqualified to paid. The most frustrating part is there's literally nothing you can do except wait once it's in their processing queue. I called every other day and got the same "2-4 weeks" response each time. Just keep filing your weekly claims like others said - when it finally processes you'll get a lump sum for all the back weeks. Hang in there, it WILL happen eventually even though the wait is brutal when you're struggling financially.

•19 days is actually not too bad compared to some of the horror stories I'm hearing! Thanks for the reassurance that it will eventually happen. The lump sum payment will definitely help catch up on everything. Did you have any issues with the back payments when they finally came through, or did everything calculate correctly?
