PA UC payments stuck in 'in progress' after winning appeal - normal wait time?

Finally had my appeal hearing last Wednesday after waiting nearly 2 months!! The referee ruled in my favor (thank goodness) and by Friday my claim status changed from 'disqualified' to 'in progress' on the PA UC portal. I was really expecting to see a pay date when I checked this morning, but nothing's changed. It still just says 'in progress' for the last 6 weeks of claims. Is this normal? How long does it typically take for payments to process after winning an appeal? Should I call the UC office or is this timeline normal? Getting desperate as I'm down to my last $230 and rent is due next week.

Congrats on winning your appeal! The system usually takes 3-5 business days to process payments after an appeal decision is implemented. Since your status changed Friday, I'd expect payment by Wednesday or Thursday this week. The UC system runs payment batches overnight, so check your portal tomorrow morning.

Thanks for the info! That makes me feel a little better. I'll check again tomorrow morning and try not to panic yet.

8 days?! Ugh, I was hoping it would be faster. Did you have to call them or did it just automatically update?

I won my appeal in January and mine went from disqualified to in progress on a Thursday, then to payment date on Monday night, and I got the money on Wednesday. The key thing is waiting for the examiner to actually release the payments after the referee's decision is entered in the system. Sometimes they're backed up. If you don't see movement by Thursday, then I'd try calling.

Thanks for sharing your timeline! That's really helpful. I'll wait until Thursday before I start trying to call. Crossing my fingers it updates before then.

CALL THEM NOW!!!! Don't wait! I waited 3 weeks after winning my appeal before calling and found out there was ANOTHER issue they never told me about! The system is DESIGNED to make u give up. Don't trust that theyre doing ANYTHING right!!!

This is good advice tbh. PA UC doesn't notify you about half the issues on your claim. I've learned to just call about everything.

have u checked ur payment method on file? sometimes after appeals they need to verify ur direct deposit again or they might switch u to the money network card without telling u

I didn't think of that! Just checked and my direct deposit info is still showing as active. Good suggestion though.

When I won my appeal last year, I had to keep calling to get through to someone who could actually help. The regular reps just kept telling me to wait, but I was in the same boat - needed money for bills ASAP. Finally I found out about Claimyr (claimyr.com) which helped me get through to an actual UC rep within 15 minutes instead of calling hundreds of times. They have a demo at https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 that shows how it works. Once I got through, the rep manually released my payments that same day.

THIS!!! I used the same service after 2 weeks of calling with no luck. Rep told me my payments were stuck in some "post-appeal review queue" that would've taken another 3 weeks if I hadn't called to ask about it!

just to add a datapoint my boyfriend won his appeal on a Tuesday and got paid the following Monday. no calls needed. i think it varies based on who ur examiner is and how busy they are that week

That's reassuring! Thanks for sharing. I'll give it a few more days before I start panicking.

anyone know if they backdate the payments with interest? been waiting 9 weeks total for mine

They will pay all back weeks you're eligible for, but PA UC doesn't pay interest on delayed benefits. They should pay everything in one lump sum once the payments are released.

UPDATE: Just checked this morning and all my weeks changed to payment date of 3/14/25! The money should be in my account tomorrow. Thanks everyone for your help and advice!

Great news! Glad it worked out without you having to call. Make sure you keep filing your weekly claims on time while you're receiving benefits to avoid any interruptions.
