How long after PA UC appeal hearing until I get a determination? Waited 5 days already

Just had my appeal hearing last Friday for my denied PA UC claim. The referee seemed pretty fair and I think I presented my case well (got laid off but employer claimed misconduct). It's been 5 days now and I'm checking my dashboard constantly but still no update. The stress is killing me since I'm down to my last $200. For those who've gone through appeals, how long did it take to get your determination after the hearing? Is there any way to check status besides the dashboard? Really need this resolved so I can start getting payments!

mine took 11 days but my friend got hers in 4 days so who knows lol

Thanks - that's so random! Did you do anything special to check the status or just wait?

You'll probably be waiting 2-3 weeks minimum. The UC system is COMPLETELY OVERWHELMED right now. My appeal determination took 19 days and that was considered "fast" according to the lady I finally got through to!!! The system is BROKEN!!

This isn't accurate. The current average for PA UC appeal determinations is 7-14 calendar days after the hearing date. While there are occasional delays, 19 days is definitely not the norm right now. Appeals are actually one of the more efficient parts of the system currently.

The standard timeframe for receiving an appeal decision is generally 7-14 calendar days after your hearing. However, this can vary based on the complexity of your case and the referee's current caseload. A few important points: 1. Continue filing your weekly certifications even while waiting for the decision 2. Check both your dashboard AND your physical mail (sometimes determinations arrive by mail first) 3. If approved, you'll receive all eligible back payments for the weeks you properly certified If it goes beyond 15 business days, you can call the UC Service Center to inquire about the status, though getting through can be challenging.

Thanks for the detailed info! I've been filing weekly claims but wasn't sure if that was the right thing to do. Good to know about checking physical mail too - I hadn't thought of that.

I had my appeal hearing back in February for something similar (attendance policy violation that I didn't think was fair). Got my determination letter exactly 8 days after. referee ruled in my favor and I got backpay for all 6 weeks I had certified for while waiting. Just keep doing your weekly certs and hang in there!

That's encouraging! Was your backpay automatic or did you have to request it?

It was automatic! Showed up on my Money Network card about 3 days after the determination letter came.

If you need to check on the status of your appeal or speak with someone at UC, I recently used a service called Claimyr that helped me get through to an actual person at the PA UC office. I was in the same boat - waiting on an appeal decision that was taking too long. Their system connects you with an agent without having to deal with the busy signals and disconnects. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 When I called, the agent was able to tell me my appeal decision was made but hadn't been uploaded to the system yet. Saved me another week of anxiety. You can check them out at claimyr.com.

does this actually work?? ive tried calling UC like 50 times this month

0 coins

wait did the referee tell you anything at the end of your hearing? at mine she said she was ruling in my favor right then and there but it still took 10 days for it to show up online

0 coins

No, she didn't give any indication. Just said she'd review everything and I'd receive a determination. That's part of why I'm so anxious - no clue which way she's leaning.

oh ok so thats normal then. my situation might have been different because it was super obvious my employer was wrong. sending good vibes your way!!

One additional thing to be aware of: if you win your appeal, your employer has 15 days to file their own appeal of that decision. This doesn't happen often, but it's good to be prepared for that possibility. Even if they do appeal, you should still receive benefits while their appeal is being processed unless a stay is specifically ordered (which is rare).

I didn't know the employer could appeal too! That's stressful, but good to know. Hopefully they don't go that route if I win.

Update: Just got my determination in the mail today! 8 days after the hearing. The referee ruled in my favor! So relieved. Now just waiting for the payments to hit my account. Thanks everyone for your help and support!

Congratulations! That's awesome news! 8 days is pretty reasonable timing. How long did they say it would take for the payments to show up? I'm dealing with a similar situation and this gives me hope.

So happy for you! This is exactly what I needed to hear. I'm on day 6 of waiting for my determination and was starting to panic. Did you get any indication from the referee during your hearing about which way they were leaning, or were you completely in the dark like I am right now?

That's fantastic news! Congratulations on winning your appeal! I'm curious - did the determination letter specify when you can expect your first payment, or do you just have to wait and see? I've been following this thread because I'm in a similar situation and this gives me so much hope. Thanks for updating us!

That's such great news! Congratulations! 🎉 I've been following this thread because I'm in week 3 of waiting for my own appeal decision and was getting really worried. Your update gives me hope that mine will come through soon too. Did you end up getting all the back payments for the weeks you certified while waiting? And how long did they say it would take for the money to actually hit your account?

Congratulations Vanessa! This is such great news and gives me hope for my own appeal that I'm still waiting on. I'm so glad you kept filing your weekly certifications like everyone suggested. Hope your payments come through quickly!

Congratulations! That's such wonderful news! I've been lurking on this thread because I'm waiting for my own appeal decision (day 12 now) and was starting to lose hope. Your update really lifted my spirits. Did the determination letter give you any timeline for when the back payments would show up? Also, was there anything specific you think helped your case during the hearing? Thanks for taking the time to update everyone - it means a lot to those of us still waiting!

Amazing news! Congrats on winning your appeal! 🎉 I'm on day 11 waiting for mine and was starting to get really anxious, but seeing your success story gives me so much hope. Quick question - did you notice the determination show up in your online dashboard first, or did the mail letter arrive before anything appeared online? I've been obsessively checking both but want to know what to watch for. Thanks for updating us and wishing you quick payments!

Congratulations Vanessa! This is such great news! I've been following your situation since you first posted and I'm so relieved it worked out in your favor. I'm currently on day 9 waiting for my own appeal decision after getting denied for "voluntary quit" (even though I was basically forced out due to unsafe working conditions). Your timeline gives me hope that I should hear something soon. Did you end up having to provide any additional documentation after the hearing, or was it pretty straightforward once the referee made their decision? Thanks for taking the time to update everyone - it really helps those of us still in limbo!

Congratulations! That's such amazing news! I've been following this thread because I'm in a similar boat - had my appeal hearing 10 days ago and still waiting. Your update gives me so much hope! Quick question - did the determination show up in your online dashboard at the same time as the mail, or did one come before the other? I've been checking both obsessively. Also, do you know roughly how long until the backpay hits your account? Thanks for taking the time to update everyone!

This is such wonderful news Vanessa! I've been checking back on this thread every day hoping for your update. I'm currently on day 13 of waiting for my own appeal decision and was starting to really worry, but seeing that you got yours in 8 days gives me hope mine should be coming soon. Did the letter mention anything about how long until the backpay deposits? I've been doing my weekly certs like everyone suggested but I'm so anxious to know when I might actually see some money. Congratulations again - you must be so relieved!

Congrats Vanessa! This is exactly what I needed to see today. I'm on day 6 waiting for my appeal decision and was starting to spiral with anxiety. Your 8-day timeline gives me hope that mine should come soon. I had a similar situation - got fired for "performance issues" but I know it was really because I filed a safety complaint. The waiting is absolutely brutal when you're running out of money. Did you keep checking the dashboard daily or did you just focus on the mail? And thanks for actually coming back to update us - so many people post asking for help then disappear!

Ana, I totally understand that anxiety - I was the same way! I did check the dashboard daily (sometimes multiple times a day honestly) but the letter actually came first. The online system updated about 2 days after I got the physical letter. My advice is to keep checking both but don't drive yourself crazy. Focus on continuing your weekly certs and maybe try to stay busy with job searching or other activities. The waiting is the worst part but it will come! Hang in there - sounds like you have a good case with the safety complaint angle.

Congratulations Vanessa! This is such a relief to read! I've been following your story since you first posted and I'm so happy it worked out in your favor. I'm currently on day 12 waiting for my own appeal decision (similar situation - employer claimed misconduct but I was actually laid off due to budget cuts). Your 8-day timeline gives me hope that mine should be coming any day now. Quick question - when you got the determination letter, did it specify exactly how much backpay you'd be getting and when to expect it? I've been doing my weekly certifications religiously but I'm curious about the logistics of actually receiving the money. Thanks for taking the time to come back and update everyone - it really means a lot to those of us still stuck in the waiting game!

Vanessa, that's absolutely fantastic news! Congratulations on winning your appeal! 🎉 I've been quietly following this thread because I'm in a very similar situation - had my hearing 10 days ago for a wrongful termination (employer claimed I was insubordinate but I was actually reporting workplace harassment). Your 8-day timeline is giving me so much hope that my determination should arrive any day now. I've been doing my weekly certifications like everyone recommended, but the financial stress is really getting to me. Quick question - did the determination letter give you any specifics about when to expect your first payment and backpay? Also, did anything show up in your online dashboard before the letter arrived, or was mail first? Thanks so much for coming back to update us - so many people ask for help then disappear once they get their answer. Your update is exactly what I needed to see today!

Kristin, I'm so glad this update helped! I was in your exact shoes just a few days ago - the financial stress and constant checking was driving me crazy. The determination letter said I should expect payments within 3-5 business days, and it listed all the weeks I had certified for with the exact amounts. Nothing showed up online first - the physical letter came about 2 days before my dashboard updated. Keep hanging in there and definitely keep doing those weekly certs! Your case sounds strong with the harassment reporting angle. Sending you positive vibes! 🤞

Just wanted to add my experience to help others who might be searching this thread later. I had my PA UC appeal hearing about 3 months ago for a similar misconduct claim (employer said I violated attendance policy but I had documented medical issues). Got my determination in 9 days - ruled in my favor! The backpay showed up on my ReliaCard exactly 4 business days after I received the determination letter. One thing I wish someone had told me: even after you win, make sure to keep filing your weekly certifications because there can sometimes be small delays in reactivating your claim fully. Also, if you're really struggling financially while waiting, some local churches and community organizations have emergency assistance programs that can help with groceries or utilities. Hang in there Vanessa - sounds like you presented your case well!

This is such helpful information! Thank you for sharing your timeline and all those practical tips. I'm new to this whole appeal process and didn't know about the ReliaCard timing or the importance of continuing weekly certs after winning. The suggestion about local emergency assistance is really thoughtful too - I'll definitely look into that while I'm waiting. It's so reassuring to see multiple success stories with reasonable timelines. Gives me hope that the system actually does work sometimes!
