Filed PA UC appeal 3 months ago with zero response - what to do now?
I'm at my wits' end with this appeal situation. Back in January, I got disqualified from UC benefits because my employer claimed I quit (which is NOT true - I was laid off due to budget cuts). I filed an appeal right away, submitted all my documentation through the portal, and received the confirmation that my appeal was received. That was over 3 months ago, and I've heard ABSOLUTELY NOTHING since then. No hearing date, no letter, nothing showing in my portal except "Appeal Filed - Pending". I've called the UC helpline maybe 40+ times but can never get through to an actual person. Is this normal? What are my next steps? I'm burning through my savings and getting desperate. Has anyone else waited this long for an appeal response?

Unfortunately this is happening to a lot of people right now. PA UC is seriously backlogged with appeals. Have you tried contacting your state representative's office? They can sometimes help push things along. When I had an appeal stuck last year, I reached out to my rep and suddenly got a hearing date 2 weeks later. Definitely worth a try!

•I hadn't thought of that! How do I find my state rep's contact info? And what exactly do I say to them?

•Checked everything - spam, trash, even had my wife check my physical mail while I was at work. Nothing from UC at all.

This is definitely not normal, even with the current backlog. Appeals should be acknowledged within 2-3 weeks and hearings scheduled within 6-8 weeks at most. Here's what you need to do: 1. File for a "Request for Update on Appeal Status" using form UC-53 (you can download this from the portal) 2. Call the Appeals Office directly at 717-787-5122 (not the regular UC number) 3. Make sure your contact information is up to date in the system 4. Check if the appeal was actually processed - sometimes they get stuck in the system And most importantly - KEEP FILING YOUR WEEKLY CLAIMS during this process! If you win your appeal, they can only pay you for weeks you properly certified.

•Thank you so much for this detailed info. I had no idea about form UC-53 or the appeals office direct number. Been calling the main line like an idiot. Will try these steps tomorrow morning.

Had the same problem last winter. Turns out my appeal was "lost" in their system somehow. Kept calling for months and nothing happened until I finally reached someone who found it sitting in some queue. The whole system is broken!!

•Ugh, that's exactly what I'm afraid of. How did you finally get through to them? I've been trying for weeks.

I had a similar nightmare with my appeal last year. Called for weeks and couldn't get through the busy signals. Finally tried Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to an agent in 20 minutes. Cost some money but worth it to finally get answers. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 The agent told me my appeal paperwork was incomplete (even though I submitted everything!) and helped me fix it. Had my hearing scheduled two weeks later.

•It definitely worked for me. I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying for weeks to get through. The service just helps you skip the phone queue.

•Just watched that video - going to try this tomorrow. At this point I'd pay anything to talk to an actual human at UC.

THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED TO ME!!! Found out they had sent my hearing notice to my old address even though I updated my info in the system TWICE!!! Check with USPS to see if anything was forwarded. PA UC is completely incompetent and they DON'T CARE about us!!

•I haven't moved recently, but I'll double check my address is correct in the system. Thanks for the tip.

One more thing - document EVERYTHING. Each time you call, who you speak with, confirmation numbers, etc. If your appeal is delayed beyond 6 months, you can actually file a complaint with the Department of Labor and Industry Office of Integrity. Also, when you finally do get your hearing notice, make sure you're fully prepared with all documentation proving you were laid off rather than quit. The referee will need specific evidence.

•I've started keeping a log today. Already have all my documentation ready to go - termination letter from my employer, emails discussing the layoff, everything. Just need them to actually look at it!

Update for anyone following this thread - I used Claimyr this morning and finally got through to someone at PA UC! Turns out my appeal WAS stuck in the system. The agent put a priority flag on it and said I should receive my hearing notice within 10 business days. Such a relief to finally have answers. Will update again when I get my hearing date.
