PA UC 1099-G form not in message center by Feb 13 deadline - need for tax filing
I started collecting PA unemployment in late December 2024 and received my first benefit payments in January 2025, but they were for those December weeks. Now I'm trying to file my taxes early but don't know if I need a 1099-G form for those payments. The PA UC website says 1099-G forms would be available in the message center by February 13th (today!), but there's nothing showing up in mine. Should I be expecting a form since I only got a few weeks of benefits in December? I'd really like to file my taxes ASAP but don't want to mess anything up. Has anyone else gotten their 1099-G yet or know if I even need one for just 3 weeks of benefits? Calling the UC office seems impossible right now 😫

Yes, you will definitely need a 1099-G form since you received unemployment compensation in 2024, even if it was just for a few weeks in December. The law requires PA UC to issue a 1099-G for any amount of benefits paid during the tax year. Sometimes they take longer than the deadline to appear in the message center, especially if your claim was processed near the end of the year. I'd give it until the end of the week before getting too worried. You can also try requesting a duplicate 1099-G through your dashboard under "Tax Forms" if it doesn't show up soon.

•Thanks for the info! I didn't see any Tax Forms section in my dashboard though. I'll keep checking the message center. Do you know if there's a minimum amount they need to pay before issuing a 1099-G? My December benefits were only around $1,200 total.

•Same boat here... filed in November, got payments for December. No 1099 yet. I remember last year they were late with these too. Frustrating when you're hoping for a refund and can't file without this form.

There's no minimum threshold for the 1099-G forms - if you received even $1 in unemployment benefits in 2024, you'll get a form. The February 13th date is just their target, but they often run behind schedule. If you need your tax documents urgently, I'd recommend using Claimyr to get through to a PA UC representative. I was in the same situation last year and wasted days trying to get through. With Claimyr (claimyr.com), I got connected to a UC agent in about 20 minutes who was able to resend my 1099-G directly. There's a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. Otherwise, you might be waiting weeks for them to get around to it, especially with how backlogged everything is right now.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I might try that if it doesn't show up by next week. Did they email you the form or just make it appear in your message center faster?

•That makes so much sense! Every time they update anything it breaks something else. Last year it took them until March to get mine right because they kept showing the wrong amount. Had to file an amended return. 🙄

Listen, the PA UC system is NEVER on time with these forms! I've been collecting on and off for years and I've NEVER gotten my 1099-G on the date they promise. The website says Feb 13 but that's just a target they ALWAYS miss. What really ticks me off is they penalize US if we're late with ANYTHING but they can be weeks late with important tax forms and there's zero consequences for them!! You could wait another month easily. And don't even bother with the phone system - complete waste of time unless you want to listen to busy signals all day!

•While I understand your frustration, I do want to clarify that UC claimants can actually request a copy of their 1099-G by phone if it doesn't arrive. The statewide UC Service Center number is 888-313-7284, and there's an automated option for tax forms. However, as you noted, getting through can be very difficult this time of year.

@OP - When I used Claimyr last year, the agent resent the form which made it appear in my message center within about 2 hours. They can also email it if you request that specifically. Just make sure you have your claim information ready when you call.

•Just checked mine and it's there now too! Thanks everyone for the help and reassurance. Guess they're just running a bit behind schedule but getting them out now.

Glad to hear your 1099-G showed up! For future reference, if you ever need tax documents from previous years, you can also request them through the PA Department of Revenue's e-TIDES system, which sometimes has them available even when they're not showing up in your UC message center. Always good to have a backup option during tax season.

•Thanks for this tip! I never knew about e-TIDES having UC tax forms too. That could've saved me so much hassle last year when I had to file an amended return.
