PA UC tax form 1099-G delays - anyone received theirs for 2024 tax filing yet?
Getting frustrated waiting for my 1099-G form from PA unemployment! I need to file my taxes soon and still haven't received anything in the mail. It's almost February already! I collected benefits for about 4 months last year after my company downsized, and I need to report that income accurately. Has anyone received their tax documents yet? I've checked my UC dashboard online but don't see any option to view or download it there either. How long should this take? And if it doesn't come soon, is there someone I can call (if I can ever get through)?

•Thanks, but I don't think I ever set up paperless. I've been getting all other UC notices in the mail. Hmm, though maybe I should check my email anyway?

They're required to mail or make 1099-Gs available by January 31st. If you created an online account, you should be able to access your 1099-G electronically through your PA UC dashboard by going to the "Tax Information" section. I received mine electronically yesterday, but paper forms might take another week or so to arrive by mail. If you don't receive it by February 7th, you should contact the UC Service Center. They have a specific 1099-G helpline this time of year: 1-888-313-7284. Just be prepared for long wait times.

•Thank you! I didn't know about the Tax Information section. I'll check that now. And good to know about the January 31st deadline - that's only a few days away so maybe I'm being impatient.

Is this your first time filing with unemployment income? I've been through this before and EVERY YEAR it's the same thing - they wait until literally the last possible minute to send these out! It's so stressful because you want to file early and get your refund, but they make you wait. Check your dashboard again. The Tax Information section is kind of hidden. Click on "More" in the menu and it should be there. If you still can't find it, call them but GOOD LUCK getting through!!!!!

•Yes, first time dealing with this. I didn't realize they're always this slow! I looked for that "More" section but don't see it... maybe my account is different? I'll try calling tomorrow.

If you do need to call them, I used Claimyr last week to get through to PA UC about my benefit year ending. Saved me hours of redial hell! Just went to claimyr.com and watched their demo video (https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2) before trying it. They got me connected to a real agent in about 10 minutes instead of spending all day trying to get through. The agent told me they're swamped with 1099 questions right now.

•Yep, worked for me. Much easier than trying to call over and over. The agent I spoke with was really helpful with my questions.

THEY ARE SO INCOMPETENT!!!! I've been waiting for WEEKS for mine too and nothing! How hard is it to send out a simple tax form?? Last year they sent me someone ELSE'S 1099-G with all their personal info and I had to wait another 3 weeks to get mine. PA UC is the most dysfunctional government office I've ever dealt with.

•They actually handle a huge volume of claims, especially since the pandemic. The tax forms legally don't have to be sent until January 31st, so they're not late yet. If you received someone else's form last year, that's concerning and you should have reported it as a data breach.

Update: Found my 1099-G! So weird - I was looking in the wrong place. When I log in to my dashboard, I need to click on "View payments and claim history" first, then there's a link for tax documents there. For anyone else looking, it's not obvious at all where to find it. Mine shows I received $8,736 in benefits for last year, which matches what I expected.

Just make sure you double-check the amount on the 1099-G against your own records! I had an issue two years ago where they reported $1,200 more than I actually received. Took THREE MONTHS to get it corrected, and I had to delay filing my taxes. Count up all your payments yourself to be sure!

•Oh that's a good point. I'll add up my payment history right now to verify. I thought $8,736 seemed right but now I'm second-guessing myself. Better safe than sorry!

•That's extremely risky. The IRS receives a copy of your 1099-G from Pennsylvania, and they'll flag your return if the unemployment income isn't reported. This could result in penalties, interest, and potentially an audit. Please make sure you're reporting all income properly on your tax returns.

For everyone's reference, here's what you need to know about PA UC 1099-Gs: 1) The deadline to furnish these forms is January 31st (by law) 2) Electronic filers can access them faster through the UC portal 3) Paper forms may take until mid-February to arrive by mail 4) If you don't receive it by February 7th, call the UC Tax Form services at 1-888-313-7284 5) You can request a duplicate through your online account 6) ALL unemployment compensation is taxable income and must be reported 7) PA doesn't tax UC benefits at the state level, but the federal government does Hope this helps!

•This is incredibly helpful information! I didn't realize PA doesn't tax the benefits at state level. That's good news at least. And thanks for confirming the timeline - makes me feel better about the whole process.
