When does EDD mail 1099G tax forms for 2025? Can't remember last year's timing

I need to file my taxes early this year due to a mortgage application, and I'm still waiting on my 1099G from EDD for unemployment benefits I received in 2024. Does anyone remember if these forms came out more toward mid-January or at the very end of the month last year? My memory is fuzzy, but I thought they showed up around the 20th. I've checked my UI Online account but nothing's posted yet. Just trying to figure out if I should expect it any day now or if I still have a couple weeks to wait. Thanks!

They're typically available by January 31st at the latest. That's the deadline for EDD to issue them. I received mine around January 25th last year, but could access the electronic version on UI Online a few days earlier. If you need it urgently for your mortgage application, I'd recommend logging into your UI Online account and checking under the "Forms and Publications" section. Sometimes the electronic version is available before the paper copy arrives.

Thanks! I've been checking UI Online every day but nothing yet. My lender specifically said they need official tax forms, not just my payment history. I'll keep an eye on that Forms section though.

mine came like super late last year. almost february. so annoying!

Actually, EDD is required by law to make 1099G forms available by January 31st, so they should never arrive in February unless there's a mailing delay. Did you check your UI Online account? The electronic version is usually available earlier than the mailed copy.

My situation is different but I'm also waiting on my 1099G. Lost my job in the tech sector in August and been on unemployment since. First time dealing with all these tax forms from EDD. Stressful times!

Sorry to hear about your job loss. The tax forms aren't too complicated, thankfully. But yeah, waiting for them can be stressful, especially if you're trying to file early. Hope things turn around for you soon.

Around Jan 20-25 usually. BUT sometimes the UI Online version shows up before the paper one. Have you checked there? Go to UI Online > Forms and Publications > 1099G. Sometimes they don't mail it if you opted for electronic correspondence!!! I found that out last year when I kept waiting for nothing lol.

I've been checking UI Online but nothing's there yet. I'm pretty sure I'm set to receive paper correspondence because I get other mail from EDD. Hopefully they'll post it online soon!

I've been collecting UI since November and NEED to call EDD about this same issue but can't get through. I tried calling 20+ times this morning and either get disconnected or the "we're experiencing high call volume" message. Super frustrating when you need tax documents for important stuff like mortgage applications!

I had the same problem trying to reach EDD about my 1099G last year. I ended up using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an agent. They basically wait on hold for you and call you when an agent is ready. Saved me from having to redial hundreds of times. There's a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. The agent I spoke with confirmed they start releasing 1099Gs mid-January but they come out in batches through the end of the month.

For accurate information: EDD is required by law to issue 1099G forms by January 31st. They typically begin releasing them electronically on UI Online around mid-January (15th-20th) and continue in batches until the deadline. Paper forms generally mail a few days after the electronic version is available. If you need your 1099G urgently for a mortgage application, you have three options: 1. Keep checking UI Online daily under Forms and Publications 2. Contact EDD directly (though phone lines are very busy this time of year) 3. If you filed taxes last year with unemployment income, your prior year 1099G is still accessible on UI Online as a reference If January 31st passes and you still don't have access to your form, then you should definitely contact EDD as that would indicate a problem with your account.

Thank you for this detailed information! This helps a lot. I'll keep checking UI Online daily and hopefully it'll show up in the next week or so. My mortgage broker wants to submit everything by February 15th, so as long as it arrives by the end of January, I should be fine.

You need a 1099G for any tax year in which you received unemployment benefits, regardless of whether your claim is still active or not. It shows the total benefits you received during the previous calendar year (Jan-Dec) and any taxes withheld. So if you received benefits in 2024, you'll get a 1099G for tax filing in 2025, even if you're still collecting benefits.

I just chatted with someone at my tax prep office and they said if the 1099G isn't available, sometimes you can add up all your EDD payments manually from your payment history as a temporary solution. Maybe worth asking your mortgage lender if that would work until the official form comes?

While your payment history can give you an estimate, most mortgage lenders specifically require official tax documents. The payment history won't show tax withholdings accurately, which affects your adjusted gross income calculation. Additionally, self-prepared statements typically aren't accepted for mortgage underwriting. I would advise waiting for the official 1099G rather than potentially complicating your mortgage application with unofficial calculations.

THE WORST PART is you can't even get through to EDD to ask about this! I tried for 2 hours yesterday. Their phone system is TERRIBLE!!! Why can't they just have a simple status update on their website saying when 1099Gs will be available? So many people need this information!

I feel your pain! Last year I spent THREE DAYS trying to get through about my missing 1099G. Eventually found out they sent it to my old address even though I had updated my contact info. Such a headache!

Just checked my UI Online account after seeing this post, and my 2024 1099G is actually available now! So they're definitely starting to release them. I'm in the Los Angeles area if that matters. Keep checking your online account - it might show up any day now.

That's great news! Thanks for the update. I'll definitely keep checking mine. I'm in the Bay Area, so hopefully mine will be in the same batch or the next one.
