When will EDD release 2025 1099G tax forms online - paperless option timing?
Hey everyone! This is my second year on unemployment (laid off from biotech last spring), and I opted for the paperless delivery of my 1099G tax form this time. Does anyone know when these will be available electronically in our UI Online accounts? The EDD website just says "by January 31st" but I'm trying to file my taxes early to get my refund ASAP. Last year I got the paper form around Jan 25th, but I'm wondering if the electronic ones come out sooner? Also, where exactly in UI Online will I find it when it becomes available? Thanks for any info!

•Ugh, really? I was hoping they'd be early since it's electronic. Guess I'll have to wait. Thanks for the info!

The electronic 1099G forms typically become available in UI Online around mid-January, though EDD legally has until January 31st to provide them. When available, you'll find them under "Forms and Publications" in your UI Online account. Look for a section specifically for tax forms or 1099G. Keep in mind that EDD processes millions of these forms, so they often release them in batches. Some people get access earlier than others based on various factors like the first letter of your last name or your customer ID number.

•Thank you for the detailed info! That's super helpful. I'll keep checking the Forms and Publications section starting mid-January then. Fingers crossed I'm in an early batch!

I'm confused about something - do we need the 1099G if we already submitted all our certification forms? Is this something different? I thought I was done with all that EDD paperwork! Now I'm worried I missed something important!!

•The 1099G is different from certification. It's a tax form showing how much unemployment benefits you received during the year, which you need for filing your income taxes. EDD sends this automatically - you don't need to request it. Certifications are the bi-weekly forms you complete to receive your benefits.

•Oh thank goodness! I was getting worried I messed something up. So they'll just send it to me automatically for tax purposes. That makes sense now, thanks for explaining!

Last year I had the electronic option and mine was available on January 18th. However, the system was really slow that day - probably because everyone was trying to access their forms at once. If you're planning to file taxes right away, just be prepared for potential UI Online slowdowns when the forms first become available. To find it: Log into UI Online → Navigate to 'Forms and Publications' section → Look for the '1099G' forms tab → Select the tax year you need (2025 for this year's filing). Hope this helps!

•This is exactly what I needed to know! January 18th would be amazing. I'll definitely prepare for system slowdowns - thanks for the warning. And thanks for the step-by-step navigation too!

I switched to paperless for ALL my EDD stuff last year and STILL got a paper 1099G in the mail!! So frustrating when they can't even follow their own system. Double-check both places (mail and online) because their systems are so unreliable. This year I'm checking both just to be safe.

•Oh no, that's not encouraging! I'll definitely keep an eye on my mailbox too then. Thanks for the heads up about their system issues.

Just wondering - has anyone here had issues with incorrect amounts on their 1099G before? My brother had a whole situation last year where his form showed $2,400 more than he actually received and it was a nightmare to fix.

•OMG YES!! This happened to me in 2023! My 1099G showed almost $3,000 more than I actually got. I spent WEEKS trying to get someone at EDD to fix it. Kept getting the stupid recording saying 'we are experiencing high call volume' and then it would hang up on me! I finally got it corrected in APRIL after filing for an extension on my taxes. The EDD phone system is the WORST!!!

•That's really concerning. I'll definitely double-check all the numbers when I get my form. Thanks for bringing this up!

Quick tip for everyone: Once your 1099G is available, download and save a PDF copy immediately rather than just viewing it online. EDD sometimes has UI Online maintenance that can temporarily block access to these documents, which can be frustrating if you're in the middle of doing your taxes.

•Great advice! I'll definitely download a copy right away. Would hate to be stuck without access when I'm trying to file.

•This! Learned this lesson the hard way last year when I tried to do my taxes during their "scheduled maintenance" weekend.

•EXACTLY!! It's completely ridiculous. They're probably still using computers from 1995 🙄

FYI - If for some reason your 1099G isn't showing up online by February 1st, or if you believe there's an error, you can request a duplicate or corrected 1099G by calling EDD at 1-866-401-2849. You can also use the "Ask EDD" feature on the website, but calling usually gets faster results for tax form issues.
