Struggling with missing EIN number on my NY unemployment tax form - need help ASAP!
So I'm trying to file my taxes this year and I keep getting stuck on the unemployment part. I received benefits for like 5 months last year after my restaurant closed down in June. The tax software is asking for the EIN number from unemployment but I can't find it anywhere on my 1099-G form from NY unemployment. I've checked the website like 10 times and downloaded all my documents but nothing shows an employer ID number. Has anyone else run into this problem? I'm getting super anxious because the tax deadline is coming up and I don't want to mess this up and get audited or something. I tried calling the tax hotline but after waiting for 45 minutes I got disconnected. Any advice would be really appreciated!

I ran into the same issue last month. The EIN for New York State Dept of Labor is 14-6013200. That's what I used when I filed and my return got accepted.

After being totally stuck on my taxes because of this EIN issue, I finally got through to someone using this service called Claimyr. They basically hold your place in line and call you when a real person picks up. Got my issue resolved in like 20 min once I talked to an actual human! It was the best money I've ever spent considering I was about to miss the tax deadline. Here's a video explaining how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•Yeah I was super skeptical too but I was desperate. It actually worked tho - had an agent on the phone within like 40 mins when I'd been trying for days on my own. claimyr.com

•wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS? NY unemployment hotline is literally impossible to get through on

•I swear it worked for me. They just stay on hold for you and call when someone picks up. Saved me from having to listen to that horrible hold music for hours lol

•not falling for another unemployment 'hack'... these never work

•I get the skepticism - I felt the same way. But unlike most 'hacks' this is just a service that waits on hold for you. Nothing magical, just saves time.

Pro tip: The EIN # should be 14-6013200 for NYS unemployment. You can also pull up the full 1099-G form which might have it directly from your online unemployment account - click on "View payment history" and then there should be a tax statement option somewhere. If the website is being glitchy, tho, you might need 2 talk to a human (good luck with that lol

Just had to deal with this for my wife. The NY unemployment EIN is 14-6013200. What's frustrating is that they dont include this information clearly on any of the forms they send you. Typical NY bureaucracy making everything 10x harder than it needs to be.

Look. State governments are THE WORST at making their documents clear. i struggled with the same thing. Since the unemployment benefits come from NYS Dept of Labor, you need to use their EIN which is 14-6013200. Don't overthink it - the system is designed to be confusing.

I work at a tax preparation company (not H&R Block lol) and we see this ALL THE TIME with unemployment. NYSDOL's EIN is 14-6013200. Pro tip: save this info for next year too, it's not going to change and they're probably not going to make it any clearer on the forms. The system seems deliberately designed to be frustrating.

If you can't find the EIN, use 14-6013200. It worked for me when I filed in February. The NY unemployment system is such a mess right now. I had to keep refreshing the page for an hour just to download my 1099-G in the first place.

THE ABSOLUTE MOST COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE TO DEALING WITH NY UNEMPLOYMENT TAX ISSUES: I've been dealing with unemployment for 2 years now (lost my job, found one, lost another) and have figured out all their quirks: 1. The EIN for NY Unemployment is 14-6013200 - save this somewhere! 2. If you can't get your 1099-G form, log in during non-peak hours (try 6am or 11pm) when the system isn't overwhelmed 3. If you're stuck on hold forever trying to reach someone, use Claimyr.com - they'll wait on hold and call you when a human answers. Absolute lifesaver. 4. KEEP COPIES OF EVERYTHING. Screenshots, downloads, confirmations - NY unemployment has been known to "lose" records 5. If you had multiple employers before unemployment, you still use the same EIN for unemployment benefits 6. The address to use is: NYS Department of Labor, PO Box 15130, Albany, NY 12212 Hope this helps someone! The system is deliberately obtuse but we're all in this together.

Maybe Im dumb but why do we even need the EIN? The government already knows they paid us unemployment. It's like they're asking us to verify information they already have? make it make sense 🤡

•its all about making us do the work instead of them. classic government efficiency lol

•it's because different agencies don't talk to each other. IRS and NYSDOL are like two people in the same room texting each other instead of just talking

Just called the tax hotline this morning. After 2.5 hours on hold, they told me the EIN is 14-6013200. I wish they would just print this on the dang form! 😤

Hey @Amina Bah! I totally feel your pain - went through the exact same thing last year. The EIN you need is 14-6013200 (everyone else already covered this but confirming it's correct). What really helped me was taking a screenshot of this number and saving it in my tax folder for next year because I guarantee they won't make it any clearer on the forms. Also pro tip: if you're using tax software and it's still giving you issues even with the right EIN, try clearing your browser cache or switching browsers - sometimes the forms get glitchy. You got this! 💪

•This is such good advice! I'm definitely saving that EIN number for next year too. The browser cache tip is really helpful - I've had so many issues with tax software getting stuck on forms. Thanks for looking out for everyone here! 🙏

Just went through this exact same nightmare last week! The EIN is definitely 14-6013200 like everyone said. What saved me was actually going to the NY unemployment website and looking under "tax documents" - they have a FAQ section that mentions this number but it's buried like 5 pages deep. So frustrating that they make it this hard to find basic info we need for taxes! Also if you're still having trouble downloading forms from their site, try using a different browser or clearing your cookies. Their website is super glitchy. Don't stress too much about the deadline - you've got the right info now and you'll get it sorted! 👍

•Thanks for mentioning that FAQ section! I never would have thought to look that deep into their website. It's like they're playing hide and seek with important tax info 🙄 Really appreciate you taking the time to help out - this community is amazing!

I completely understand your frustration! I went through this exact same issue a couple years ago and it was so stressful. The EIN you need is 14-6013200 - that's the official number for NY State Department of Labor. Everyone here already confirmed it's correct but I wanted to add that you can actually verify this yourself by looking at the very bottom of your NY.gov unemployment account page (if you can get it to load properly lol). They have it listed in tiny print in the footer section under "employer information" but it's super easy to miss. Also don't beat yourself up about not finding it - they really do make this way harder than it needs to be. You're definitely not the first person to spend hours looking for this number! Hope this helps and you get your taxes sorted out soon! 🤞
