Still waiting for ny unemployment 1099g from February request - anyone else?

I requested my 1099g tax form by mail back on February 15th since I couldn't log into my online account (kept getting that stupid 'authentication error'). It's now been over 6 weeks and still nothing in my mailbox. Tax filing deadline is getting closer and I'm starting to panic. Has anyone else had trouble getting their 1099g this year? How long did it take for yours to arrive after requesting it? I've tried calling the helpline but can't get through to anyone.

Dmitry Smirnov

Same boat here. Requested mine on January 28th and still nothing. Called like 15 times and couldn't get past the automated system. This is so frustrating!

Have you tried requesting it online again? I'm wondering if I should try that or if it'll just reset the clock on my request.

I tried again online last week but the system wouldn't let me place another request. Said I already had one pending. 🤬

My brother had the same issue and ended up filing without it using his bank statements to estimate. Not ideal but at least he got his refund.

I finally got through to someone after using this service called Claimyr. No more waiting on hold for hours! They called and when an agent was on the line, it connected to my phone. Talking to the agent got my form sent out that same day and I received it 4 days later. Best money I've ever spent to finally get my tax forms. Check them out here: claimyr.com

Yeah it actually does! I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying for weeks. Here's a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

I get the skepticism, but it literally just calls for you and stays on hold. When someone answers, it connects to your phone. Saved me hours of hold music. My 1099 arrived a few days later.

I was about to call this bs but I actually tried it last month for a different issue and it worked. Felt weird paying for something that should be free but after calling 30+ times myself I was desperate

They told me it could take up to 10 weeks for processing and mailing. The whole system is a complete joke. I ended up having to get my accountant to file an extension.

Pro tip: If you know your exact benefit amount from last year, you can actually still file your taxes without the 1099-G. Just report the income you know you received. I confirmed this with a tax professional.

That's helpful but I'm not sure of the exact amount... Do you know if there's any way to calculate it from bank deposits?

Yeah just add up all the deposits from NYSDOL. Should match your 1099 when it eventually arrives. Just make sure you only count 2023 payments.

I literally just got mine yesterday after requesting it on January 10th. ALMOST THREE MONTHS later. The nysdol is completely broken.

Did they use regular mail or certified? Wondering if I could have missed it somehow

Just regular mail. Easy to miss - it came in a pretty plain envelope.

If you're in a rush, try this: call the tax form request line early morning (like 7:30am) and use option 3 instead of the specific 1099g option. Sometimes those agents can help too and that line isnt as busy. Worked for me!

Here's what actually works (I'm a former NYSDOL employee): The 1099-G delay is happening to thousands of New Yorkers right now due to a system migration they did in December. The best course of action is to: 1. Keep trying the dedicated 1099-G hotline at 1-877-358-5306, specifically between 2-4pm when it's least busy 2. Try accessing the 1099-G through the online portal again - sometimes the authentication errors are temporary and clear up after 24-48 hours 3. If you absolutely cannot wait, you can visit a local NY Dept of Labor office in person with ID and they can print it for you on the spot 4. Use a service like claimyr.com if you're completely stuck - it's the only reliable way to get through on the phone these days since NYSDOL is severely understaffed The backlog is serious this year because they're dealing with both regular requests and a huge number of identity theft claim investigations from the pandemic that are still ongoing. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for this detailed info! I'll try the hotline tomorrow between 2-4. If that doesn't work, might check out that claimyr site.

Is the in-person option available without an appointment? The office near me always seems packed.

You should call ahead for an appointment but they usually keep some slots open for urgent tax document requests this time of year.

I was able to access mine through my NY.gov account even though the unemployment website wasn't working. Try logging into NY.gov directly and look for tax documents there.

Call your state representative's office! Not kidding - my assemblyman's office helped me get mine after 8 weeks of waiting. They have special contacts at agencies that can push things through.

This right here 👆 I got mine in 3 days after my state senator's office made a call. They have special phone numbers we don't.

Last year my 1099g had the wrong amount on it and it took until JUNE to get it fixed. The whole system is held together with duct tape and prayers at this point.

Have you checked if you can get it through the messaging system? Log in, send a message requesting the 1099G, and sometimes they'll upload it directly to your messages rather than mailing it.

I can't even log in - that's the whole problem. Keep getting authentication errors 😞

Try using a different browser or clearing your cookies. Their site hates chrome for some reason but works ok on firefox.

The NY unemployment system is a complete joke. We're all over here struggling while they take months to do simple tasks. I filed for an extension because of this garbage.

idk if this will help but I downloaded the NY State app on my phone and was able to access my 1099 that way even though the website wasn't working for me. worth a try! 🤷‍♀️

I was having the EXACT same issue! After failed attempts calling for weeks, I used claimyr.com and got connected to an agent in 45 mins who processed my request immediately. My 1099g showed up in the mail 5 days later. It was the only way I could talk to a live agent after trying everything else.

-

Diego Mendoza

is this one of those things where you have to give them all your personal info? seems risky

0 coins

-

Chloe Wilson

Nah they literally just call and wait on hold for you. When a real person answers they connect the call to your phone. Talking to the agent got my 1099 sent out right away.

100% worked for me. Only way I finally got my 1099g after weeks of trying. My refund is already processed now 💰

File IRS form 4506-T. It's a request for transcript of tax return. The IRS can get the info from the state directly. Takes about 10 days but it works.

WHY IS THIS HAPPENING EVERY SINGLE YEAR?? You'd think they'd figure out how to mail a form after decades of doing this. I'm so sick of this state's incompetence.

Facts. And somehow they expect us to file taxes on time when they can't even send the forms on time. Make it make sense.
