New York Unemployment: laid off twice in one year - when do benefits reset?
Got laid off back in January and collected unemployment until July when I found work. Now just got caught in another mass layoff and filed a new claim. The system shows I only have 5 effective days left. Does anyone know how this works with multiple layoffs in the same year? Really need to know when my benefits reset.

Your benefit year starts from when you first filed in January. You'll need to use up those remaining 5 days first, then file a new claim. The system is weird like that but youll get a full 26 weeks with the new claim after your current benefit year ends.

•thank u sm for explaining! 🙏 when exactly does the benefit year end? Is it like exactly 12 months from when I first filed?

•yep exactly 12 months from ur first claim. So if u filed January 15 2023, your benefit year ends January 14 2024

Hey I found a way to actually get someone on the phone about this! Used this site called claimyr.com - its a service that calls and waits on hold for you, then connects you when someone picks up. Costs $20 but saved me hours of frustration. Heres a video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•100% legit, got through to an agent in like 45 mins while I was making lunch lol. Better than calling 500 times myself 💯

I dealt with something similar! After ur benefit year ends youll qualify for a new claim since u worked enough weeks between January and now. Just make sure u have all ur latest w2s and pay stubs ready

Important info for your situation: You need to have earned 10x your benefit rate in covered employment since filing your last claim AND worked in at least two calendar quarters. Sounds like you should be good since you worked July-December. Just use up those 5 days and then you can file fresh when your benefit year ends.
