New York Unemployment: Laid off again with funds left from previous claim - reapply?
Need help figuring out my unemployment situation. Filed back in July, went back to work in January but just got laid off again. Still see money left on my previous claim. Not sure if I need to file a whole new claim or if I can just start certifying again. Anyone been through this?

You need to file a new claim since its been more than 3 months since you last certified. The leftover balance doesnt matter - the system needs to check if you qualify for a new benefit year.

Hey I was in the same boat last month! Used claimyr.com to get through to an agent right away. Cost $20 but worth it to get a clear answer and get everything sorted. Here's a video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Went thru this exact thing in February! Here's what you gotta do: First, YES file a new claim even with the old balance. They look at your earnings from the past 18 months to calculate your new rate. Could actually be higher than before if you made more at that job! Make sure you have: - Last day worked - All employment dates for past 18 months - Employer info ready File online is fastest. If you need help getting through try claimyr.com - saved me hours of frustration. Once approved youll get back pay from when you first filed. Good luck!
