NY unemployment stuck after ID.me verification - system still asking to verify

I completed my ID.me verification for NY unemployment three days ago and got the confirmation email. But when I call the DOL unemployment line and enter my social security number, I'm still getting an automated message telling me I need to verify through ID.me! I've already done this and got the green checkmark and everything. Has anyone else dealt with this? Does the system need time to update or should I be doing something else? I need to certify this week and I'm worried about missing payments.

ya this happened to me too last week. took almost 5 days for their system to update after i did the id.me thing. so annoying!

5 days??? Ugh, I was hoping it would be faster. Did you have to do anything else or did it just start working on its own?

The DOL and ID.me systems don't sync immediately. In most cases it takes 2-3 business days, but I've seen it take up to a week. A few things you should check: 1. Make sure you completed ALL steps in the ID.me verification (including the final confirmation step where you consent to share info with NYSDOL) 2. Check your email for any messages from ID.me or DOL requesting additional information 3. Try logging into your NY.gov account directly instead of calling - sometimes the phone system lags behind the online portal If it's been more than 5 business days, you should contact NYSDOL directly about the issue.

Thank you! I definitely completed the final step with the consent to share info - I got the confirmation screen. I'll check my NY.gov account directly. I've been focusing on the phone system since that's how I usually certify.

I HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM in January!!! The system is totally broken. I verified with ID.me and it took TWELVE DAYS before the unemployment system recognized it. I called every day and got nowhere. So frustrating!!!

Twelve days?! That's ridiculous. Did you still get all your payments for that period or did you lose those weeks?

I got backpaid for the weeks I couldn't certify, but only after I had to call and explain the situation to THREE different agents. Make sure you document EVERYTHING - screenshots of your ID.me confirmation, dates/times you tried to call, etc.

This is a common issue with the NY unemployment system in 2025. The ID.me verification typically takes 3-5 business days to fully sync with NYSDOL's system. However, you can still certify for benefits while waiting for this to resolve - you just need to use the web portal instead of the phone system. Go to labor.ny.gov, log in to your account, and you should be able to certify there even if the phone system is still asking for verification. The web portal usually updates faster than the phone system.

Oh! I didn't realize I could still certify online while this is happening. That's a huge relief. I'll try the web portal right now, thank you!

After I verified with ID.me I was having the same problem for almost a week! I finally got through to someone at DOL by using Claimyr (claimyr.com). They have this service where they call the unemployment office for you and connect you when they reach an agent. Saved me hours of waiting and the agent manually updated my account status on the spot. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE The DOL agent told me there's a known issue with the ID.me verification not properly syncing with their system, and sometimes they need to manually push it through.

does that claimyr thing actually work? i always thought those services were scams

Thanks for the tip! If the online certification doesn't work, I might try this. Getting someone to manually update my account status would definitely solve the problem.

my cousin works for the DOL (not in NY tho) and he says they're ALWAYS having problems with ID.me. apparently the systems don't talk to each other properly. something about API integration whatever that means lol. anyway he said just keep trying and eventually it'll work

I ran into this issue back in February and discovered it was because I had a typo in my social security number during one part of the ID.me process. Double-check that all your information matches exactly between your ID.me account and your NY unemployment account. Even a small discrepancy like a different format of phone number can cause the systems to not recognize you as the same person. If everything matches and you're still having the issue after a week, call the Technical Support line at 855-829-3674 (not the regular unemployment line). They specifically handle ID.me integration issues.

That's a really good point about making sure all the info matches. I'll double check everything. And thanks for that specific tech support number - adding it to my phone now just in case!

I'm having the exact same problem right now but with my husband's account! He verified through ID.me two days ago but the system isn't recognizing it. SO STRESSFUL!! We really need his benefits to come through this week for rent. Has anyone here had success getting this fixed quickly?

Try the technical support number I mentioned above (855-829-3674). They can sometimes push through the verification manually if you explain the urgency of your situation. Also, make sure your husband is trying to certify through the website rather than the phone system while waiting for this to resolve.

Update for anyone finding this thread later: The NYSDOL released a statement on their Twitter account acknowledging the ID.me sync issues. They said the normal processing time is 3-5 business days, but they're currently experiencing delays up to 7 business days due to high volume. They recommended: 1. Continue certifying via the web portal during this time 2. Don't complete the ID.me verification multiple times as this can cause further delays 3. If it's been more than 7 business days, contact them directly Hope this helps others facing the same issue!

Thanks for the update! I was able to certify through the web portal like you suggested earlier, even though the phone system is still asking for verification. It's been 5 days now, so hopefully it will update soon. Really appreciate everyone's help!
