NY unemployment payment stuck after filing new claim - will last week's money be released?
So I filed a new claim because my previous claim expired on 2/14/2025. I certified for that final week on Sunday and everything went through normally. But now that I've filed my new claim, the system isn't showing my old claim anymore and I can't tell if my money for last week will be released. I'm freaking out a little because I really need that payment. Can someone tell me if this has ever happened to them? Will my money for that last week still be released even if the old claim isn't showing in the system anymore?

This happens a lot when transitioning between claims! Your payment for the last week of your old claim should still process, even though you can only see your new claim in the system now. The NYSDOL systems don't display both claims simultaneously, but they're still processing the old one in the background. It usually takes 2-3 business days for that final payment to clear once you've filed a new claim. Check your bank account later this week.

•Thank you so much! That makes me feel better. I'll keep checking my bank account. I was worried I'd somehow lost that last payment by filing the new claim too soon.

SAME EXACT THING happened to me back in January!!! I was FREAKING OUT thinking I lost my last payment. The online system is garbage - it doesn't show both claims at once which makes NO SENSE. But my money DID come through eventually, took like 4 days longer than usual. Just wait it out.

•4 days longer? Ugh, that's frustrating but I guess I can handle that. Did you have to call them or did it just show up eventually?

•It just showed up, but I was checking my account like 10 times a day lol. The system NEVER updated to show it was coming either, money just appeared.

This is standard procedure with the NY unemployment system. What happens is that when you file a new claim, the UI Online portal only displays your current active claim. However, any pending payments from your previous claim are still in their payment queue. The system processes claims and payments separately. Specifically: 1. The final week's payment from your expired claim will still process 2. It typically takes 3-5 business days to appear in your account 3. You won't see any status updates for this payment in the portal 4. Your new claim will be the only one visible going forward If the payment doesn't arrive within 5 business days, then you should contact NYSDOL to follow up. But in most cases, it resolves automatically without intervention.

•Thank you for the detailed explanation! That helps a lot. I'll wait the 5 days before panicking.

I went through this exact situation last month and tried calling NYSDOL for days but could never get through to a human. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an agent right away. They confirmed my final payment was still processing and just wasn't visible in the system. Saved me so much stress! They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•I've never heard of Claimyr before. Does it actually work? I might try that if my payment doesn't show up soon.

•Yeah, it definitely worked for me. The agent confirmed my payment was being processed and told me exactly when to expect it. Better than obsessively checking my account for days.

I had something similar happen but it was because I made a mistake on my new claim application. When I called they said I needed to verify some information. Not saying that's your situation but just something to consider if the payment doesn't show up soon.

•Thanks for mentioning that. I'm pretty sure I filled everything out correctly but I'll keep it in mind if things don't resolve soon.

wait a sec... are you supposed to file a new claim immediately after the old one expires? i thought you had to wait until you certify for the last week first? now im confused about my own situation...

•You can file a new claim as soon as your benefit year ends. The system allows you to certify for your final week and then immediately file a new claim. It's actually better to do it right away to avoid gaps in payment eligibility.

UPDATE: My payment from the old claim just hit my account this morning! It took 4 days longer than usual but it did come through. Thanks everyone for the reassurance!
