What does it mean when Washington ESD unemployment says processing?
Filed my weekly claim on Sunday and it's been showing 'processing' for the past 3 days. Usually my payments go through within 24 hours but this time it's just stuck. My claim status still shows active and I haven't gotten any messages about issues. Is this normal or should I be worried? I need to know if I should expect my payment this week or if something's wrong with my claim.

Processing usually means Washington ESD is verifying your weekly claim information. It can take 2-5 business days depending on their workload. If you answered any questions differently than usual or if there's a holiday, it might take longer.

•I answered everything the same as always. Maybe it's just taking longer because of the holiday weekend?

•Yeah holidays definitely slow things down. I've had claims sit in processing for a whole week before.

Don't panic yet. Processing status is pretty common, especially if Washington ESD is doing random verification checks or if their system is backed up. As long as you didn't get any correspondence about issues, you should be fine.

•Thanks, that makes me feel better. I was starting to worry I messed something up on my weekly claim.

Ugh same thing happened to me last month! Took forever to get through to anyone at Washington ESD to find out what was going on. Finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that actually got me connected to a real person. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ. Turned out my claim was just in a random review queue.

•Never heard of that service. Did they charge you a lot to make the call?

•Actually didn't mention any costs upfront, just focused on getting me through to Washington ESD. Was worth it to finally talk to someone who could explain what was happening.

•Might try that if this drags on much longer. I hate being in limbo about my payment.

Processing can also mean they're cross-checking your work search activities or verifying employment information with your previous employer. Did you start a new job recently or report any work hours?

Khalid Howes
•No new job, just been doing my regular job searches and reporting them. Maybe they're checking those?

•Could be. Washington ESD sometimes randomly audits job search logs to make sure people are meeting the requirements.

•Eight days?? That would drive me crazy. Did you ever find out why it took so long?

If it's been more than 5 business days in processing status, that's when you should definitely call Washington ESD. There might be an issue that needs to be resolved but didn't trigger an automatic notification.

•Good luck getting through on the phone though. I've been trying for weeks about my adjudication issue.

•Try the Claimyr thing someone mentioned above. Heard good things about it from people who couldn't get through the normal way.

The Washington ESD system is so frustrating! Why can't they just tell us exactly what 'processing' means instead of leaving us guessing? Some transparency would be nice.

•RIGHT?? Like just say 'under review' or 'verifying information' or something actually helpful.

•I think they keep it vague because there are so many different reasons a claim might be in processing. But I agree it's not very helpful for claimants.

Mine did this last week and turned out Washington ESD was verifying my identity again for some reason. Got a letter in the mail asking me to upload documents even though I'd already done that months ago.

•Oh no, I hope that's not what's happening with mine. I don't have any pending correspondence in my account.

•Check your regular mail too, not just your online account. Sometimes they send stuff by mail first.

Usually processing means they're just verifying the information you submitted matches their records. Could be checking your work search contacts, your availability, or just general system maintenance stuff.

•This is helpful! I didn't know they checked work search contacts. I always wondered if they actually verified those.

•They don't check every single one but they do random audits. That's why it's important to keep good records of your job search activities.

Had the same issue and it turned out to be a computer glitch. After a week of processing, I used that Claimyr service to get through to Washington ESD and they just had to manually push my claim through.

•A computer glitch? That's so frustrating! At least you got it resolved.

•It was easy to use and actually got me connected to someone who could help. Way better than sitting on hold for hours.

Processing status usually resolves itself within a few business days. I wouldn't worry unless it's been over a week. The Washington ESD system handles thousands of claims every day so some delays are normal.

•That's reassuring. I guess I'm just anxious because I need the money for rent this week.

•I totally understand that stress. Maybe call your landlord and explain the situation if you're worried about timing.

Check if there are any system maintenance announcements on the Washington ESD website. Sometimes processing delays are due to scheduled system updates.

•Good idea! I'll check their website for any announcements.

•They usually post maintenance schedules but not always. Worth checking though.

If all else fails and you need to talk to someone at Washington ESD, I've heard that Claimyr service mentioned here actually works. My cousin used it when her claim got stuck in adjudication and she finally got answers.

•Three people have mentioned Claimyr now. Must actually work if people keep recommending it.

•Yeah I'm seeing it mentioned more and more on these forums. Might be worth trying if the regular phone lines aren't working.
