What does payment progress mean for unemployment NYS Department of Labor claim status?
I filed my weekly claim on Monday and when I check my account it shows 'payment progress' as the status. This is the first time I've seen this instead of just 'processed' or 'pending'. Does anyone know what payment progress means? Is this normal or should I be worried that something's wrong with my claim? I've been getting my benefits fine for the past 6 weeks but this status is new to me.

Payment progress usually means your weekly claim has been approved and the payment is being processed through the system. It's actually a good sign - it means NYS Department of Labor has verified your eligibility for that week and the money is on its way. You should see it change to 'released' within 1-2 business days, then the funds will hit your account or debit card shortly after.

•Oh that's a relief! I was worried it meant there was some kind of hold or issue. Thanks for explaining!

I've noticed NYS Department of Labor has been showing more detailed payment statuses lately. Payment progress typically appears after your weekly claim passes all the automated verification checks but before the actual funds are released. It's part of their updated system to give claimants better visibility into where their payment stands in the processing pipeline.

•That makes sense! I was getting nervous because I've never seen that status before. How long does it usually stay in payment progress?

•Usually 24-48 hours in my experience. If it's been longer than that and you haven't seen it change to 'released', then you might want to check if there are any issues with your claim.

I had this same confusion last month! Payment progress stressed me out because I thought it meant there was a problem. But like everyone said, it just means your claim is approved and working its way through their payment system. I actually prefer seeing this status because at least I know my claim went through okay.

If you're having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor to check on payment issues, I used a service called Claimyr that helped me reach an actual agent when my payments were delayed. You can check it out at claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Really helpful when you need to talk to someone about your claim status.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I'll keep that in mind if I run into any issues getting through to them.

I'm new to unemployment benefits and just started seeing "payment progress" on my claim status too. Reading through these responses is really helpful! It's reassuring to know this is actually a positive sign that everything is moving along normally. The NYS system can be pretty confusing when you're not familiar with all the different status messages they use.

•I totally understand that confusion! When I first started getting benefits, every new status message would make me panic thinking something went wrong. The NYS system definitely could be more user-friendly with clearer explanations of what each status means. At least now we know "payment progress" is actually good news - it means your claim passed all their checks and the money is on its way!

I've been getting unemployment benefits for about 3 months now and "payment progress" has become pretty routine for me. It usually shows up for about a day or two after I certify my weekly claim, then switches to "released" and I get the deposit within another day. I think they added this status to help people track where their payment is in the process instead of just wondering why it's taking a few days. Much better than the old system where you'd just have to wait and hope everything went through okay!
