DEO status changed to 'waiting adjudication' after claiming back weeks - what now?

So I finally was able to claim my back weeks yesterday after my account was reactivated (it had been locked for about 3 weeks because I moved and needed to update my address). Everything seemed to go smoothly when claiming those weeks, but now I checked my account this morning and all of them are showing 'waiting adjudication' instead of 'pending payment' like I expected. I've never seen this status before and I'm getting worried! Will I still get paid? My regular weeks before were always processed within 2-3 days. Does claiming back weeks automatically trigger some kind of review? I need this money for rent next week and I'm starting to panic a little...

'Waiting adjudication' means your claim needs to be reviewed by a DEO claims examiner before payment can be released. This often happens with back weeks because the system needs verification that you were eligible during those specific time periods. It's basically a hold until they confirm everything is correct. Unfortunately, adjudication can take anywhere from 2-3 weeks to sometimes 2+ months depending on their current backlog.

2 MONTHS?? That can't be right! I can't wait that long - I've already been without income for weeks. Is there anything I can do to speed this up? Will calling help at all?

same thing happened 2 me last summer when i claimed 3 back weeks... took about 5 weeks to get resolved. DEO is always slow with these things :/

5 weeks is still way too long. Did you do anything to get it resolved or did it just randomly clear one day?

The system flags back-dated weeks automatically because they want to make sure you're not trying to claim benefits for weeks you weren't eligible. When I had this happen, they wanted proof I was actually searching for work during those specific weeks. Did you keep records of your work searches for those back weeks? They might ask for them during the adjudication process. CONNECT is super picky about this stuff and the DEO loves to make everything as complicated as humanly possible!

Yes, thankfully I did keep all my work search records! But how will they ask for them? Will I get an email or something in my CONNECT inbox? I've been checking both constantly.

You need to be proactive with DEO adjudication issues. Don't just wait - their system is notorious for letting claims sit in adjudication limbo for months. Here's what I recommend doing: 1. Call DEO first thing in the morning (7:30am when they open) 2. If you can't get through, try using Claimyr (claimyr.com) - they have a system that helps you connect with a DEO agent without waiting on hold for hours. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj 3. When you get through, ask specifically what triggered the adjudication and if there's anything you can upload to resolve it faster 4. Check your CONNECT inbox daily for fact-finding questionnaires Being proactive is the only way to avoid waiting months for resolution.

Thank you! I'll definitely try calling tomorrow morning. I've never heard of Claimyr before but I'll check it out if I can't get through. Has anyone actually used this service before?

I used Claimyr last month when I was stuck in adjudication hell. Got through to an actual human at DEO in about 20 minutes instead of calling for days with no answer. The agent told me exactly what was flagged on my account and what documents I needed to upload. Worth it just to know what's actually happening instead of guessing.

not all agents are helpful tho. i got thru to someone who just told me "keep waiting" and couldn't give me any real info about my claim. luck of the draw with who you get on the phone

Back weeks always trigger adjudication!!! Its there stupid system. When u claim weeks out of order the computer thinks something fishy & flags the account. Happened to me & took 4 weeks to clear. So annoying bc u already validated I was eligible when you GAVE ME THE WEEKS TO CLAIM!!!!! Makes no sense!!!!!

Exactly! The DEO system is so frustrating. They give you the option to claim back weeks but then penalize you for doing it. Classic Florida DEO - design a system that creates more problems than it solves. The real issue is they're understaffed for the amount of adjudication cases they create with their overly sensitive fraud detection algorithms.

One more tip - if you do call and speak with a representative, ask them to leave detailed notes on your account about your conversation and any information you provide. Then when you call again (and you probably will need to), you can reference those notes. Also ask if there are any fact-finding questionnaires that need to be completed, as sometimes they don't show up properly in your CONNECT inbox but the agent can see them on their end.

That's really helpful advice. I'll make sure to ask them to take detailed notes. Should I upload my work search evidence now or wait until they specifically ask for it?

I'd recommend uploading your work search evidence now through the CONNECT portal if possible. Go to the "Determination, Pending Issues and Decision Summary" section to see if there's an option to upload documents related to the adjudication. Being proactive by providing the evidence before they specifically request it can sometimes speed things up. However, if there's no obvious place to upload, then wait until you speak with an agent who can tell you exactly what's needed and where to submit it.

I just checked and don't see any obvious place to upload documents. I guess I'll have to wait until I can speak to someone. This is so frustrating!

Just to give you some hope - I had 5 weeks go into adjudication back in January after claiming back weeks. I called DEO, explained my situation, and the representative was able to expedite my case. Got all payments within 10 days after calling. Sometimes you just need to find the right agent who's willing to help. Persistence is key with Florida's unemployment system.

That's encouraging! Did you call the regular number or was there a special adjudication department you contacted?

I used the regular DEO number (800-297-0586). There's no special adjudication department you can call directly. But here's a tip - when you do get through, politely ask if you're speaking with a Tier 2 agent. If not, ask if they can transfer you to one. Tier 2 agents have more authority to actually help with adjudication issues vs. the first-level representatives who often just tell you to wait.

Thank you! I'll definitely ask for a Tier 2 agent when I call. Fingers crossed I can get this resolved quickly.
