NY unemployment Key Bank deposit times - when do funds actually hit your card?

So I just got approved for unemployment benefits about two weeks ago after losing my job in August due to company downsizing. I received my Key Bank debit card in the mail last Friday, and I'm supposed to get my first payment this week. The website says my payment of $512 was "released" yesterday, but there's nothing on my card yet. Called the automated system and it also confirms payment was processed. How long does it usually take after the system says funds are released for them to actually show up on the Key Bank card? Is there a specific time of day they post? I'm trying to pay rent and really need this money ASAP. Anyone else experiencing delays with their payments this week?

Usually takes 1-2 business days after the release date. So if it was released yesterday, you should see it by tomorrow. Sometimes its faster tho. Mine typically hits my card around 7am-9am the day after the release date. Good luck!

Thanks for the info! So it sounds like I just need to be patient until tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed 🤞

mine actually hits at like 3am sometimes. I've legit stayed up to check bc i was so desperate for the $

the 7-9am timing is spot on for me too, been getting benefits since June

After banging my head against the wall trying to reach ny unemployment for weeks, I finally tried this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com). They got me connected to an actual person at unemployment who fixed my release issue in minutes. Best thing I've spent money on in months since it got my payments flowing again. Check out their video explaining how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

does this actually work? sounds too good to be true tbh

0 coins

Yeah it really does! I was skeptical too but I was desperate after trying for 3 weeks straight. They basically stay on hold for you then call you when they get through to someone. Saved me hours of frustration.

wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS? The unemployment phone system is IMPOSSIBLE

0 coins

It worked for me! Got connected to an agent who fixed my problem in one call. Talking to a real person made all the difference - they can see exactly what's going on with your claim.

0 coins

hmm I've been burned by so many of these 'services' before... what makes this different?

0 coins

The difference is they don't try to handle your claim for you - they just get you past the impossible phone system. They call, wait on hold, then connect you when a real agent picks up. Talking to the agent myself let me explain my situation properly.

Just FYI - the money doesn't technically go to KeyBank right away. The release date is when NYS transfers the funds, then KeyBank has to process it. That's why there's that annoying gap. My payments always show up 1-2 days after the release date shown on the website.

Its super inconsistent for me. Sometimes it hits the day after it says release, other times it takes 2-3 days. The worst was during holidays - took almost 5 days once because of some bank holiday. The whole system is so frustrating honestly

Great, sounds like I just have to wait and see. Hoping it's not a holiday delay situation.

holidays are THE WORST with this system. I had to wait 9 days during Christmas last year! 😡

You should sign up for direct deposit instead of using the Key Bank card. Much faster and more reliable. I get my funds within 24 hours of the release date when its direct deposited to my regular bank account. The Key Bank card is notorious for random delays.

How do I set up direct deposit? Is there a form on the website?

0 coins

Yep - login to your account, go to payment methods, and there should be an option to add direct deposit info. You'll need your bank account number and routing number. Takes about 2 weeks to go into effect tho

Direct deposit was a game changer for me too. Way better than that keybank nonsense

I've had my NY unemployment going to my Key Bank card since February. In my experience, if the portal says it was released on a Monday, it's usually on my card Tuesday morning. But sometimes it takes until Wednesday. One time I called Key Bank directly (number on back of card) and they confirmed the deposit was pending before it actually showed in my available balance.

this ⬆️ call the number on the back of the card. they can tell you if its pending even if you cant see it in the app yet

THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE TO NY UNEMPLOYMENT PAYMENTS: Having dealt with the NY unemployment system for over a year now, here's what I've learned about payment timelines: - When the system says "released" it means NYS has approved the payment, but it hasn't necessarily been transferred yet - Key Bank cards typically see deposits 1-2 business days after the release date - Direct deposit is faster and typically shows up 24-36 hours after release - The Key Bank automated phone system (866-295-2955) sometimes shows pending deposits before they appear in the app or online - Federal holidays delay everything by at least a day - If your payment is delayed more than 3 business days, something is wrong and you should contact unemployment - If you can't get through on the phone (which is likely), use Claimyr.com - it's a service that navigates the phone system and connects you with a live agent - Always certify on Sunday for fastest payment processing Hope this helps! The system is frustrating but somewhat predictable once you understand the patterns.

This is super helpful, thank you! Going to save this comment for future reference.

The tip about certifying on Sunday is KEY. I've noticed my payments come way faster when I certify first thing Sunday morning vs waiting until Monday or Tuesday.

That claimyr service saved me too when I had payment holds. Only way I could actually talk to someone

if ur having other problems with ur card like i did (mine got lost) u might need to request a replacement. took me 2 weeks to get a new one 😭

Make sure you're checking the actual KeyBank account and not just the unemployment website. Sometimes the website updates before the money actually transfers. There's a separate KeyBank account login you need.

0 coins

Yeah I downloaded the KeyBank app and made an account. Still nothing showing yet. Hopefully tomorrow!

just a heads up, sometimes the first payment takes longer than usual. My regular payments come pretty consistently 1 day after release, but my first one took almost 3 days. Something about initial verification or whatever. hang in there!

the system is just trash tbh. last week my payment said released on tuesday but didnt hit my card until FRIDAY. no explanation. no way to talk to anybody. then this week it came the next day after release. makes absolutely no sense 🤡

0 coins

This is why I switched to direct deposit. The KeyBank card timing is all over the place.

the entire ny unemployment system needs to be rebuilt from scratch fr

You might wanna call the actual unemployment office if your payment doesn't show up by tomorrow. Sometimes there's a technical issue they need to fix. Getting through on the phone is a nightmare though, I spent 4+ hours on hold last month.

Calling is literally impossible unless you use something like claimyr.com - otherwise you'll be on hold until you die of old age 💀

0 coins

Does anyone know if theres a specific time of day that funds post to Key Bank accounts? Like do they do batch processing at certain hours?

0 coins

in my experience its usually early morning - between 3am-9am

0 coins

I've noticed most of my deposits hit around 6am ET, but occasionally as late as noon

0 coins

you can also check your balance and transaction history by calling 1-866-295-2955 - sometimes the automated system shows pending deposits before they appear in the app
