NY unemployment payment released but not showing up on KeyBank card - what's going on?
I'm really confused and starting to worry. I completed my ID.me verification last week Monday (March 10th, 2025) and got a notification that the funds were released last Friday (March 14th) to my KeyBank card. It's now been 3 days and there's NOTHING showing up on my card. I've checked the balance multiple times and even tried making a small purchase to see if maybe the balance display was wrong, but nope - no money there. Has anyone else experienced this delay between when NY unemployment says the money was released versus when it actually shows up on your KeyBank card? How long should I wait before calling? I really need this money for rent due next week!

4 business days?? So you're saying I might need to wait until Wednesday or Thursday this week? That's cutting it so close to when my rent is due...

This is actually pretty common with KeyBank cards and NY unemployment payments. There's often a 2-3 business day processing delay even after NYSDOL shows the payment as

Great advice. Also worth noting that sometimes the first payment after ID.me verification takes a bit longer than usual. The system is extra cautious with newly verified accounts.

That's what I'm afraid of! I've tried calling DOL this morning and couldn't get through after trying for 45 minutes. Did you ever manage to talk to someone? How did you resolve it?

After dealing with this exact situation twice (once in 2024 and again in January 2025), I found that using Claimyr actually worked to get through to an agent. I was skeptical at first, but they got me connected to a live person at NYSDOL in about 20 minutes after I had spent days trying on my own. The agent was able to see that my payment had been processed but was stuck in some verification queue. They manually pushed it through and the money showed up on my KeyBank card the next day. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE and their website is claimyr.com if you want to check it out.

Thank you! I'm going to try calling one more time on my own tomorrow morning, but if that doesn't work I'll definitely look into this. At this point I just need to talk to an actual person who can tell me what's happening with my money.

It worked for me both times. The second time I used it, I got through in about 15 minutes. Much better than the 100+ calls I was making on my own without getting anywhere.

This happened to me too and I almost had a heart attack thinking my money was lost forever!! But it showed up eventually. Does anyone know if KeyBank is planning to fix this delay issue? I'm thinking of switching to direct deposit to my regular bank account instead of using the KeyBank card because of this.

Direct deposit to your personal bank account is generally faster and more reliable. You can change this in your NY.gov account under payment preferences. The switch usually takes effect within 1-2 payment cycles.

There are several possible explanations for this situation:\n\n1. Processing delay: As others mentioned, there's typically a 2-3 business day delay between when NYSDOL releases funds and when they appear on KeyBank cards.\n\n2. First payment after verification: The first payment after completing ID.me verification often takes longer due to additional security processes.\n\n3. Banking holiday: Monday was not a banking holiday, but if there were any processing delays last week, that could extend the timeline.\n\n4. System issue: Occasionally there are synchronization issues between NYSDOL and KeyBank systems.\n\nI recommend:\n1. Wait until Wednesday (3 full business days)\n2. Contact KeyBank first to confirm if they see a pending deposit\n3. If KeyBank shows nothing, then you need to reach NYSDOL to investigate\n\nYou can also check your payment history in your NY.gov account to see if there are any status updates or notes about the payment.

btw if ur really desperate you can go to any KeyBank branch in person with ur ID and they can check whats up with ur card. sometimes they see pending stuff that don't show up on the app

That's a good idea, there's actually a KeyBank branch about 20 minutes from me. I might try that tomorrow if I can't get answers over the phone. Thanks!

Just to add a data point - I completed ID.me verification on February 27th and my payment was released March 2nd. It didn't show up on my KeyBank card until March 7th. Called multiple times and was told it was

UPDATE: The money finally showed up this morning! Looks like it was just a processing delay between NYSDOL and KeyBank. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions. I'm definitely going to switch to direct deposit to my regular bank account to avoid this stress in the future.

Great news! Yes, direct deposit to your regular bank account is typically faster and more reliable. You can make that change in your NY.gov account under payment preferences. Glad it worked out!
