Confused about Key2Bank card for NY unemployment benefits - where's my money?

I tried to set up direct deposit for my NY unemployment benefits last week but something went wrong with my bank info. On the 15th, they apparently issued me a Key2Bank card which I still haven't received. My online account shows benefits were released to a debit card on the 15th, which I assume is this Key2Bank card? I called Key2Bank customer service and they're telling me nothing is pending for the card. I'm completely lost about what's happening with my money. Has anyone dealt with this before? How long does it take to get the card? And why would the system say my money was released if Key2Bank doesn't show anything pending?

Dmitry Popov

The Key2Bank card usually takes 7-10 business days to arrive after they issue it. Super annoying they don't expedite these things when ppl need money NOW. When you get the card you have to activate it first before you can see the funds. The unemployment system and Key2Bank don't always communicate in real time so that might explain the discrepancy.

Thanks for this info. I'm so stressed about it. Do you know if I can call and ask them to expedite the card? It's been 5 days already.

I think you can call and ask for expedited shipping but they'll charge you like $15 for it. Might be worth it tho if ur desperate

Ugh, of course they charge for that 🙄 but yeah might be worth it at this point

After banging my head against the wall for WEEKS trying to reach someone about my Key2Bank card issues, I finally found a service that actually got me through to a live person at NY unemployment! I used claimyr.com - they called for me, waited on hold, then connected me when a real agent was available. talking to an agent got my $ unlocked so fast and they fixed the whole Key2Bank mess in one call. Check out this vid about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

100% worked for me. I was skeptical too but I was desperate after trying to call for 3 weeks straight. They got me through in under 2 hours when I couldn't get through for days.

wait so they just call and wait on hold for you? and then transfer when someone picks up?

Exactly! They have some system that dials and waits, then when a human picks up it calls your phone. Saved me literally hours of hold music torture lol. Just go to claimyr.com if you wanna try it

Not a hack, just a service that calls for you. I don't work for them or anything, just sharing what worked when I was in the same situation as OP. My Key2Bank issue got resolved in one call after weeks of frustration.

Key2Bank is the WORST. When I got my card last year, it took 12 business days to arrive. Then when I tried to withdraw cash, the ATM took a fee AND there was a hidden Key2Bank fee too! I'd recommend calling unemployment directly (if you can ever get through lol) and changing to direct deposit as soon as possible.

Sometimes the system says the money is released but it takes 24-48 hrs to actually hit the card. Have you checked your unemployment payment history to see the exact status? It should tell you if it's actually been processed or just approved.

It says "payment released" as of 3 days ago, but Key2Bank still says nothing is pending on their end

That's definitely not right then. Something's messed up. You need to talk to an agent at NY unemployment directly.

This whole system is a freakin joke!! I've had so many prblems with the key2bank card. First they sent it to my old address even tho i updated my info. Then when i finally got it, there was a "hold" on my funds for "verification" that took another week to clear. The left hand doesn't know what the right is doing with these ppl 🤦‍♂️

OMG same thing happened to me! Did you ever figure out how to get the verification hold removed?

Look, here's exactly what you need to do in this situation. I used to work in financial services and I've helped several friends with the same issue: 1. First, understand that there's often a disconnect between when NY unemployment processes a payment and when Key2Bank receives/posts it. This can take 1-3 business days. 2. The card typically takes 7-10 business days to arrive. In the meantime, you should create an online account at key2benefits.com to check if funds are actually there (even before you get the physical card). 3. If it's been more than 3 business days since payment was released and still nothing showing at Key2Bank, you need to contact NY unemployment directly. This is the hardest part because their phone system is absolutely terrible. 4. I highly recommend using claimyr.com to get through to an agent. It's a service that waits on hold for you and connects you when a real person is available. I've recommended this to multiple people dealing with unemployment issues and it's been a game-changer. 5. Once you reach an agent, they can verify exactly what happened with your payment and fix any issues on their end. They can also help you switch to direct deposit if that's what you want. 6. If your payment was actually sent but Key2Bank has no record, the agent can initiate a payment investigation. Don't stress too much - this happens a lot and it's fixable. The key is actually getting through to someone who can help!

Thank you SO MUCH for this detailed answer! I'll try creating an account on key2benefits.com right now. And definitely looking into that claimyr service to get through to someone.

This is gold! I've been having the exact same issue. Just tried claimyr.com and they got me through to an agent in about an hour. Issue resolved!

Have you tried checking your balance through the Key2Bank automated phone system? Sometimes the funds are there but not showing up when you talk to a rep for some reason.

Not to freak you out but my roommate had his benefits stolen from his Key2Bank card last month. Apparently there's been a lot of fraud with these cards. You should definitely try to talk to someone at unemployment ASAP to make sure everything is legit.

Omg that's terrifying. How did that happen? Did he get his money back?

Someone somehow got his card info and drained it at ATMs in another state. He's still fighting to get it back. Just be super careful with that card when you get it.

This happened to my cousin too! The fraud department at Key2Bank is a joke. Took them 6 weeks to refund the money.

Just got through this exact situation last month! The ny unemployment system and Key2Bank are like two completely different planets that barely communicate. What finally worked for me was calling the unemployment fraud department (oddly enough). They were able to see exactly what happened with my payment and fixed it right away. The regular helpline was useless.

Do you have the number for the fraud department? Willing to try anything at this point!

I don't have it handy but it should be on the NYSDOL website under fraud reporting. Just tell them you're concerned about possible payment interception.

worst case scenario ur benefits got sent to someone else's card. happened to me and took 6 weeks to sort out. pray thats not what happened to u 😬

Don't waste time calling Key2Bank - they have limited access to unemployment info. You NEED to talk to someone at NY unemployment directly. Claimyr.com is the move. I spent 2 weeks trying to call before I found them. It'll cost you a bit but it's worth every penny to actually get your issues fixed.

how long did it take to get through using claimyr? i'm desperate at this point...

For me it was about 90 minutes from when I signed up until I was talking to an agent. WAY better than the days I spent trying on my own.

Try asking for a supervisor when you call Key2Bank. The regular reps often don't have full access to see pending transfers that haven't posted yet. A supervisor might be able to see if there's an incoming payment that's in process.

I had an issue with my Key2Bank card and wrote to my state senator's office. They have liaisons with NYSDOL who can cut through the red tape. Got my issue resolved in 3 days after struggling for weeks on my own.

This 💯 - state reps can work miracles with govt agencies! They have special contacts regular people don't have access to.

Just google your state senator based on your address - each one has staff dedicated to helping constituents with govt issues

am i the only one who thinks its crazy that in 2023 we still have to deal with physical debit cards for government benefits? the whole system is stuck in 2005 smh

Right?? Like why can't they just use Venmo or something 🤣

Security reasons, but they could definitely use better technology. The whole unemployment system is running on ancient software.

If your account says benefits were released but Key2Bank shows nothing, you need to file a payment trace with unemployment. I had to do this last year. You have to get through to a live agent though (good luck lol). Try claimyr.com if you're struggling to get through - they'll wait on hold for you.
