How long does NY unemployment keybank card actually take to arrive?

So I filed my unemployment claim back in February after getting downsized from my sales job. Got approved pretty quickly and chose the debit card payment option since I don't trust direct deposit with all the fraud happening these days. It's been over 3 weeks now and still no KeyBank card in the mail! The website says 7-10 business days but that's clearly not happening. Called the KeyBank number on the ny unemployment site and wasted 45 minutes just to be told 'it's been mailed' with no other info. Meanwhile I'm stressing about rent coming due next week. Has anyone dealt with this recently? How long did yours actually take to arrive? Starting to worry it got lost or stolen from my mailbox.

Mine took almost 4 weeks to arrive. The system is totally backed up right now. I know it's super frustrating but hang in there. When it finally came, all my payments were loaded on it - so at least I got a nice chunk at once. Just keep checking your mailbox.

Thanks, that helps a bit. Did they send you any kind of notification when it shipped or did it just randomly show up?

Just showed up outta nowhere. No notifications at all which was annoying af

Yep same here - no tracking, no heads up, nothing. Just magically appeared one day.

After waiting 5 weeks and getting nowhere with the regular phone line, I found this service called claimyr.com that got me through to a real person at unemployment. Talking to an agent got my $ unlocked so fast! They figured out my card had been sent to the wrong address even though my info was correct. They expedited a new one that arrived in 3 days. Hands down the only way I could talk to a live agent. Here's a video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Wait is this for real? I've been trying to get through for weeks! How exactly does it work?

Yeah its 100% real. They basically call NY unemployment for you, stay on hold, then connect you when a human picks up. Saved me HOURS. I was desperate after my rent was due and landlord was on my ass

sounds like one of those ads that pops up everywhere. anyone ACTUALLY try this? 🤔

I used it last month. Worked exactly as advertised. Got through in about 45 mins when I'd been trying for days on my own.

It's not an ad lol, I'm just someone who was in the same desperate situation as OP. My card was lost somewhere in the mail system and I couldn't pay my electric bill. claimyr.com got me to a rep who fixed it same day.

The Keybank cards are the WORST. Mine took 6 weeks during peak pandemic and then got deactivated randomly a few months later. My advice - as soon as you get it, transfer the money out to your personal account. Don't leave much on there.

Took exactly 18 days for me (counted every single one lol). But my neighbor got his in like 8 days so it seems pretty random tbh. I think it depends on what borough/county you live in and how backed up your local mail is.

Definitely depends on location. I'm upstate and got mine in 2 weeks. My cousin in Brooklyn waited over a month for his.

I'm in Queens - maybe that's why it's taking forever. Mail service has been spotty here lately

You need to call them ASAP! Mine never came and I just kept waiting like a dummy. After 5 weeks I finally called and turns out they had my apartment number wrong even tho I entered everything correctly. Had to cancel that card and request a new one which took another 2 weeks. Don't be me!

Ugh that's what I'm worried about. Did you call keybank or unemployment directly?

You gotta call unemployment directly, not keybank. Keybank can only tell you if it was sent, not fix any issues. But good luck getting thru to unemployment 💀

Mine never came 😭 Had to report it missing and request a new one. The whole process was a nightmare that took almost 2 months. I seriously recommend trying to switch to direct deposit if you can, way fewer headaches.

LPT: Check if your mail is being forwarded correctly if you've moved in the last year. These cards CANNOT be forwarded by USPS due to security policies. Found that out the hard way after waiting 6 weeks...

This!!! I moved 3 months ago and didn't realize this. Card got returned to sender and I had no idea until I finally got through to someone.

Honestly with all the delays and issues, I'd recommend looking into getting someone on the phone to help you. I was in the same situation last month - no card after 3 weeks, rent due, panicking. I used claimyr.com to get through to someone at unemployment who discovered my card had been returned due to a typo in my address. They fixed it and expedited a new one. Talking to an actual person was the only thing that resolved it for me.

another day, another company promising to fix the unfixable unemployment system lol

Nah man, I was skeptical too but it actually works. It's just a calling service, they don't fix anything themselves - they just get you through to unemployment faster than you could on your own.

I've seen multiple ppl mention this service. How much does it cost tho? Is it worth it?

For me it was worth every penny considering I had bills past due and was about to get hit with late fees. I spent hours trying to get through on my own with no luck, so yeah, definitely worth it.

The whole NY unemployment debit card system is completely FUBAR right now. There's a class action lawsuit brewing about the delays. I ended up having to go physically to an unemployment office to get help after waiting 7 weeks for my card.

Wait you can go in person? I thought all the offices were still appointment only and booked months out?

Some offices take walk-ins now but you better get there at like 5am and be prepared to wait ALL day. I was there for 6 hours.

Have you checked your payment history on the unemployment website? If it shows payments being released but you don't have the card, that's a red flag the card might be lost/stolen/misdirected. Also check if there are any ID verification holds on your account.

Yeah it shows 3 payments as "processed" but I obviously can't access them without the card. No holds showing on my account.

I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!! Been there last year and it SUCKED. Here's what I eventually figured out to do: 1. First try calling the KeyBank number specifically about the card status. If they confirm it was mailed over 14 days ago and you don't have it, ask them to cancel it and issue a new one. 2. If you're desperate for funds, try getting through to an unemployment agent who can sometimes do an emergency direct deposit for cases like yours. 3. Document EVERYTHING - dates you called, who you spoke with, confirmation numbers. 4. Check that your mailing address is 100% correct on both your unemployment profile AND with KeyBank (sometimes they don't match!). 5. If you're still stuck, try contacting your state representative's office. They have special channels to unemployment. 6. Consider using claimyr.com to get through to unemployment faster - it worked for me when I was desperate after 3 weeks of failed calling. The system is broken but there are ways through it. Hang in there!

This is super helpful, thank you! I'll try KeyBank one more time then look into the claimyr option if that doesn't work.

I second contacting your state rep. My assemblywoman's office got my card issues fixed in 48 hours after I spent weeks getting nowhere on my own.

At least the DMV gives you an appointment time. KeyBank just leaves you hanging indefinitely lol

If it makes you feel any better, mine took exactly 23 days to show up. And then when it did, my mailman crammed it into my tiny mailbox and bent the card. Had to request a new one 😩

hot take: the system is deliberately slow to discourage people from collecting. been on unemployment 3 times in 10 years and it's always the same runaround. they hope you'll just give up.

Carlos Mendoza

100% this. The system is working exactly as designed - to be frustrating enough that people just stop trying

After the mail carrier delivered my neighbor's KeyBank card to ME by mistake, I'm convinced half the missing cards are just delivered to the wrong address. Check with neighbors and your building's mail area if you're in an apartment.
