Anyone else waiting forever for their ny unemployment KeyBank card? Mine was supposedly sent weeks ago

After dealing with ny unemployment for almost 4 months and finally getting my case expedited, they released my payments to a KeyBank debit card. The KeyBank website says I should have received it by 2/26 but here we are in March and still nothing. How long did it take for everyone else to get their card? Really wish my bank was compatible with unemployment for direct deposit...

StormChaser

It took me around 3 weeks to get mine in the mail. The KeyBank website said 7-10 days but that was total BS. I would call them directly to check on the status - sometimes they send it but it gets lost in mail.

Thanks for the info. Did you have to call KeyBank or unemployment to check on it? I'm so tired of being on hold for hours.

I called KeyBank directly. Their wait times are way shorter than unemployment. Just make sure you have your claim info ready.

KeyBank's customer service is almost as bad as NY unemployment tho 🙄 I was on hold with them for like 45 mins last week

After weeks of trying to reach someone at ny unemployment about my missing card, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected with a live agent in less than an hour. Talking to an agent got my card reissued and my $ unlocked so fast - it was the only way I could talk to a live agent. Check out their explainer: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

This sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else actually used this?

I was skeptical too but I was desperate after waiting 3+ weeks for my card. It actually worked - they stayed on hold and then called me when they got someone. Saved me hours of hold music hell.

wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS? The unemployment system seems designed to make it impossible to talk to anyone

I'm just sharing what worked for me after trying for weeks. The callback feature saved me from losing my mind on hold. My card got reissued and arrived 5 days later.

hmm I've been burned by so many of these 'services' before... what makes this different? 🤔

They don't promise to fix your claim - they just get you through to an actual human at unemployment who can help. That was the impossible part for me. Check their site claimyr.com if ur interested

Mine took about 3.5 weeks to arrive. But then when it finally came, I couldn't even activate it because the system was down 🤦‍♂️ The whole KeyBank setup with ny unemployment is a complete disaster

I had to request a replacement card TWICE because neither of the first two ever showed up. Each time they told me "7-10 business days" but it was more like a month. The third one finally arrived. The system is completely broken.

Omg that's horrible! Did you have to keep calling to get the replacements sent or was there another way?

Had to call each time. The KeyBank phone system is almost worse than unemployment. I finally got thru using claimyr.com to reach someone who could help.

Just a tip: You CAN switch to direct deposit after you get your card. Log into the KeyBank account online, transfer the money to your personal bank, then go into your unemployment profile and set up direct deposit for future payments. Thats what i did to avoid dealing with that stupid card.

Oh that's good to know! I thought if your bank wasn't on their list initially you were stuck with the card forever. Thanks!

USPS has been super slow lately so that might be part of the problem. My card was supposedly mailed on 1/15 but didn't arrive til 2/9. I'd wait another week then contact KeyBank directly to see if it was actually sent.

Unfortunately this is SUPER common with the NY unemployment KeyBank cards. Here's what you need to do: 1. First, verify with unemployment that your address is correct in the system. One typo can cause weeks of delay. 2. If your address is correct, contact KeyBank directly (1-866-295-2955) to check if your card was actually mailed. Sometimes they say it's sent but it's still processing. 3. If KeyBank confirms it was sent but you haven't received it after 15 business days, request a replacement immediately. 4. While waiting, try to get through to an unemployment rep who can verify everything is correct on their end. Using claimyr.com is honestly the fastest way to get someone on the phone - saved me hours of hold time. 5. Once you DO get your card, immediately set up direct deposit for future payments if your bank is compatible. The KeyBank system is notoriously problematic. 6. If you're desperate for the funds, you can request an emergency cash payment at some KeyBank locations with proper ID and claim information. Don't give up! The system is frustrating but persistence eventually pays off. I went through this exact situation in December.

Thank you so much for this detailed breakdown! Super helpful. I'll definitely try calling KeyBank directly first.

This is gold. Wish I had this info months ago when I was dealing with the same issues!

The KeyBank card is literally the WORST part of NY unemployment. Mine took 23 days to arrive and then had a $0 balance even though I was owed $2,840. Had to spend another 2 weeks sorting that out. 🤮

Check if they sent it to your old address maybe? When i filed my claim i had just moved and they sent my card to the previous address even though i updated everything on the unemployment portal.

I haven't moved recently but that's a good point - I should double check what address they have on file.

if u dont get it within 30 days, u need to report it missing and request a new one. they might charge you like $10 for the replacement which is total bs since it's not your fault 😤

My mailbox has been broken for weeks and I just found out my card was delivered but stolen. Now I'm in an even worse nightmare trying to prove it was me who should've received the money. The whole keybank debit card system is ridiculous in 2023.

Omg that's terrible! Did you file a police report? That might help when dealing with KeyBank.

Yeah I filed a report but KeyBank says the investigation could take up to 90 days. I'm literally about to be evicted and they're taking their sweet time 😡

lol welcome to the ny unemployment experience... where everything takes 3x longer than they tell you and nothing works as expected. I got my card after about a month of waiting. Just keep calling and eventually you'll get it sorted.

Has anyone else noticed that the KeyBank website is down like CONSTANTLY? I can barely log in to check my balance half the time. The whole system feels designed to make it impossible to access your own money.

YES! Their site is garbage. I started using the mobile app instead which works slightly better but still crashes all the time.

Their maintenance windows are ridiculous too. Who does system updates during WEEKDAY BUSINESS HOURS? 🤦‍♀️

it took exactly 17 days for mine to come. the tracking number they gave me never worked either. just showed up randomly one day. hang in there!

I actually ended up going TO a KeyBank branch after waiting forever, and they were able to print me a temporary card on the spot that I could use until my permanent one arrived. Not all branches offer this service but worth calling around to check!

-

That's a great idea! I didn't even think of going in person. I'll look up if there are any branches near me.

Just make sure to bring multiple forms of ID. They were super strict about verification.
