Haven't received my NY unemployment debit card after 3 weeks - help!

I was approved for unemployment benefits in New York about three weeks ago, but still haven't gotten my debit card in the mail. The website says it should arrive within 7-10 business days, but it's been way longer than that now. I've tried calling the unemployment office every single day this week but can never get through to a real person - just stuck in this endless phone tree or get disconnected. Also tried the KeyBank number listed on the unemployment website but they said they can't help until I actually have the card. My rent is due next week and I'm seriously stressing out. Has anyone else had this problem or know how to actually reach a human being who can help me track down my card?

same boat here. waited almost a month for mine. turns out they sent it to my old address even tho I updated my info. You need to talk to someone at ny unemployment to reissue the card, but good luck getting through on the phone. I tried for TWO WEEKS straight.

Did you ever get it resolved? I'm worried mine went to an old address too but I don't even know how to check.

yeah eventually. had to just keep calling and calling. if u can get through to a real person they can tell u what address they mailed it to and request a new one if needed.

I moved last year and they kept sending my stuff to the wrong place. The system is so broken 🤦‍♀️

After getting nowhere for weeks, I finally found a service called claimyr.com that got me connected to an actual unemployment agent. You pay them to do the hold time for you and then they connect you to a rep when someone answers. Best money I've spent in a while since talking to the agent got all my payments released. Here's a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

100% worked for me. I was skeptical too, but I was desperate after trying to get through for almost a month. Got connected to an agent in about 2 hours and they fixed my card issue right away.

another one of these services that probably doesn't work... has anyone else tried this?

I used it last month when my claim was stuck in pending. The service called and stayed on hold, then my phone rang when they got a human. Saved me hours of hold music torture.

wait so they just call and wait on hold for you? and then call you when they get someone? honestly that sounds amazing cuz sitting on hold is torture

That's exactly what they do. And it actually works. Talking to an agent got all my benefits unlocked in one call.

Call this number instead: 888-328-6551 - it's for debit card issues specifically. Sometimes it's easier to get through on that line than the main unemployment number.

Did u check ur mail carefully? Sometimes the cards come in very plain envelopes that look like junk mail. I almost threw mine away LOL

I've been checking everything super carefully. Nothing that looks like it could be a card.

Mine came in a white envelope with barely any markings. Just a small KeyBank logo in the corner. So easy to miss!

The ny unemployment system is a complete dumpster fire right now. My card took 5 weeks to arrive and then was immediately frozen for "verification" 🤬 I finally gave up on calling and went to my state rep's office. They have connections and got it fixed in 2 days.

This is actually good advice. I had to do the same thing, contact my assemblyman's office. They have special contacts at the DOL.

That's a great idea, thank you! I'll look up my rep's contact info right now.

Have you tried selecting different options when you call? Sometimes if you say you're calling about tax information instead of benefits you can get through to an actual person faster. Then once you get someone just explain your real issue.

Listen up, I work at an employment agency and deal with this stuff all the time. Here's what you need to do: 1. First, double check your online account to make sure your address is correct - if there's an error, your card could be going to the wrong place. 2. If your address is correct, try calling right when they open (7:30am) - that's when wait times are shortest. 3. If that doesn't work, try the direct KeyBank unemployment line: 866-295-2955 4. Still no luck? Use claimyr.com - it's a service that will wait on hold and connect you to an agent when they pick up. Many of my clients have used it successfully when they couldn't get through themselves. 5. As a last resort, contact your state assembly member or senator's office. They have direct contacts at unemployment offices. The system is overwhelmed right now, but there ARE ways to get through. Hang in there!

Can confirm the state rep tip works. They solved my issue in 48 hours after I spent 3 weeks trying on my own.

have u checked if ur benefits are being direct deposited insted of going to a card? u might have selected that option when u applied without realizing it

I just double-checked and I definitely selected the debit card option. My account says 'payment method: debit card' but no card yet 😭

This happened to me too!!! Had to call like 87 times in one day before I finally got through. Then they said my card was never even mailed out due to a "system error" 🙄 The rep had to manually trigger a new card to be sent.

anyone else feel like the whole ny unemployment system is designed to make people give up? like they're hoping we'll just stop trying to collect what we're owed? smh

Try this trick: call and immediately press 1-1-3-2 when the automated system starts. I got through to a person after trying this. Not sure if it still works but worth a shot.

If you've got a Twitter account, try tweeting at the NY DOL account. Sometimes they respond and can help expedite things. public shaming works wonders lol

i waited 6 weeks for my card. SIX. WEEKS. And they kept telling me "it's coming, it's coming". Eventually had to get a new one issued. The broken system cost me late fees on bills and almost an eviction. Hope you get yours soon!

6 weeks?! That's insane. I'm already stressing at 3 weeks. Did they at least backpay you for all the missed weeks?

yeah they did backpay everything once i finally got the card, but that doesn't help when your landlord is threatening to kick you out NOW 🙃
