Still waiting for ny unemployment debit card after 2 weeks, what gives?

Applied and got approved for unemployment benefits in mid-August. Got my first payment processed on September 28 and the website showed that my debit card was issued on September 30. It's now October 16 and still no sign of the card in my mailbox. I called KeyBank customer service twice and both times they just said 'it takes 7-10 business days' but it's been more than that now. I even double-checked my address is correct in the system. Has anyone else experienced super long delays getting their card? How much longer should I wait before requesting a replacement? Really need this money for rent coming up soon!

I had a similar issue last year. Card took THREE WEEKS to show up. Call KeyBank again and specifically ask them to expedite a replacement - tell them the first one never arrived. They'll flag the original as lost and send you a new one with priority shipping. Don't wait any longer.

Thanks for the advice! Did you have to pay for the expedited shipping? I'm literally down to my last few dollars.

Nope, they covered it bc it was their mistake for the delay. Just be firm but polite with them!

After weeks of calling and getting nowhere with NYSDOL about my missing card, I tried this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me connected to an actual human at unemployment. The agent was able to flag my account and expedite a new card. Best money I ever spent to finally get my benefits unlocked! Check out this video too: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Yeah it actually does! I was super skeptical too but I was desperate after trying for days. They call and wait on hold for you, then when someone answers they connect you. Saved me hours of frustration.

another day, another 'miracle solution' that's probably just taking advantage of desperate people... 🙄

I get the skepticism, but it literally just connects you with the actual unemployment office. They don't handle your claim or anything, just get you past the impossible phone system.

So I went to claimyr.com after seeing this. Got connected in like 45 mins when I'd been trying for DAYS on my own. My card is now being expedited. Wish I'd known about this weeks ago!

My card took 12 business days last month. The mail is slow AF these days. But if its been more than 2 weeks definitely call KeyBank not NYSDOL to get a replacement.

Don't bother waiting. Just go online and set up direct deposit to your regular bank account instead. Way faster and safer than dealing with those stupid KeyBank cards.

I tried that but they said I need to activate the card first before I can switch to direct deposit 😭

Ugh that sucks. The whole system is designed to be frustrating. Maybe try calling your local unemployment office directly instead of the main number?

I work for USPS and I'll tell you right now mail delivery is a nightmare right now. We're understaffed and overwhelmed. Your card might be sitting in a pile at a distribution center somewhere. I'd definitely request a replacement if I were you.

This! The mail system is beyond broken rn. My friend's card got delivered to his neighbor three doors down last month 🤦‍♂️

Here's exactly what you need to do to solve this problem: First, call KeyBank's dedicated unemployment debit card line at 1-866-295-2955. Tell them it's been over 15 business days and you need to report a non-receipt of card. They'll cancel the current card and issue a new one. While waiting for the replacement, call NY Unemployment at 1-888-209-8124 to explain your situation. They can sometimes offer alternative payment methods for genuine hardship cases. The problem is actually getting through to a real person. This is where I found success using Claimyr.com - they have a system that gets you connected to an actual agent without spending hours on hold. When I finally got through, the unemployment rep was able to note my account and expedite the whole process. Also, check that your mailing address is 100% accurate in both systems (KeyBank and NYSDOL). Even a small discrepancy can cause delivery issues. Don't wait any longer - every day you delay is another day without your money. The system is frustrating but you have to be persistent!

Thank you so much for this detailed response! I'll try KeyBank again tomorrow morning.

pro tip: if you do get a replacement, request expedited delivery and MAKE SURE they send it to the right address. the number of times they've sent my replacement cards to old addresses is ridiculous 🤬

Check if someone stole it from your mail. Happened to me - card got delivered but someone swiped it before I checked my mailbox. Call keybank ASAP and see if there's been any activity on the account.

Oh no I didn't even think of that possibility! Will definitely check.

Two weeks is nothin. Waited 6 weeks for mine back in 2021. The system is broken AF.

Just FYI - I've heard KeyBank is ending their contract with NY unemployment soon and they'll be switching to a different provider. Might explain some of the delays in card processing.

Where did you hear this? Any idea who the new provider will be?

Saw it on a notice when I logged into my account last week. Didn't mention the new provider tho.

update your mailing address in both systems!!! even if u think its correct. sometimes there's weird formatting issues that cause delivery problems. make sure the address formats match EXACTLY.

During the pandemic my card took 23 days to arrive. The whole system is designed to make it difficult to get your money. They hope you'll give up.

THIS!! 💯 They make it hard on purpose. The less people who successfully navigate the system, the less benefits they have to pay out.

Have you moved recently or lived at multiple addresses? Sometimes they have outdated address info in their system even if you updated it on the website.

-

Kirsuktow DarkBlade

Nope, been at the same address for 3 years. That's why I'm so confused about the delay.
