NY unemployment Key Bank debit card delay - 2 weeks since issuance date
I'm getting really worried about my Key Bank card for NY unemployment benefits. The website shows it was issued on September 26, but it's now October 10 and still nothing in my mailbox. That's two full weeks! Is this normal? Should I request a replacement already or keep waiting? I've been certifying weekly but have no way to access my benefits. Anyone know the typical delivery timeframe for these cards?

Key Bank cards typically take 7-10 business days to arrive, but there have been mail delays recently. Since it's been 14 calendar days (about 10 business days), you're right at the cutoff where I'd consider calling. Before requesting a replacement, check that your address is correct in both your NY.gov account AND your unemployment claim profile - they're sometimes different systems. If everything looks correct, call NYSDOL to verify the card status.

•Thanks for the info. My address is definitely correct in both places - I double-checked everything when I first applied. Do you know if requesting a replacement cancels the original card? I'm worried they'll deactivate the first one and then I'll be waiting another 2 weeks for the replacement.

mine took almost 3 weeks to show up back in January, the mail is terrible these days. give it a few more days before you panic

•3 weeks?! Ugh, that's so frustrating. I guess I'll try to be patient a little longer then. Did you ever call about it or just wait?

I went through this exact same situation last month. After waiting 12 days, I spent four days trying to reach someone at NYSDOL with no success - constant busy signals and disconnections. Finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an agent in about 20 minutes. They confirmed my card was indeed mailed on the issue date and helped expedite a replacement. You can see how their system works in this video: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE The agent told me there's been a huge backlog of cards due to staffing issues at Key Bank's processing center. Definitely worth making the call rather than continuing to wait with no benefits.

THEY ARE TERRIBLE WITH THESE CARDS!!!! I had to request a replacement THREE TIMES earlier this year. Each time they swore it was sent but nothing ever came. The whole system is designed to make it impossible to get your money. And good luck trying to get anyone on the phone to help - you'll waste hours of your life listening to that stupid hold music.

•Same! Wait til you actually get the card and find out about all the random fees they charge. I switched to direct deposit after the first payment.

Are you in an apartment building? My card got delivered but the mailman put it in the wrong box. Maybe check with neighbors or your building management? Also make sure your name is clearly listed on your mailbox. These cards don't get forwarded if you've moved recently.

•I'm in a house with a locked mailbox, so it shouldn't be a neighbor issue. And I've been at this address for 3 years with no mail problems before this. But good points to consider for others!

To answer your question about replacement cards: Yes, requesting a replacement will deactivate the original card for security reasons. If you do call for a replacement, ask them about expedited shipping. They can sometimes do that, especially if it's been more than 10 business days since the initial issuance. Also, once you get your card, I strongly recommend setting up direct deposit instead. It's much more reliable and you'll get your payments 1-2 days faster each week.

•Thank you! I'll definitely switch to direct deposit once I can actually access my account. I tried setting it up initially but the system wouldn't let me without having the card first for some reason.

@profile8 - Claimyr is definitely legit. I was skeptical too, but after wasting hours trying to get through myself, it was worth it. They basically keep dialing for you using their system. When they get through, they call you and connect you to the agent. Saved me days of frustration.

•I wish I'd known about this sooner! I literally spent 6 hours over 2 days trying to get through last time. The NYSDOL phone system is a JOKE.

Update: I decided to call NYSDOL today and finally got through after trying for hours. They confirmed my card was mailed on September 26th as shown online. The rep said to wait until October 17th (that'll be 3 weeks total), and if it still hasn't arrived by then, call back to request a replacement. Apparently there's currently a significant mail backlog affecting card deliveries across the state. So frustrating but at least I know it's not just me!

That's good information - thanks for sharing the update. The 3-week timeline matches what others have reported recently. Once you do get your card, remember to immediately set up your online account at KeyBank's site so you can monitor your balance and transactions. And definitely consider switching to direct deposit to avoid future card issues.
