How to track my NYS Department of Labor unemployment debit card in the mail?

I got approved for unemployment benefits about 10 days ago but still haven't received my KeyBank debit card yet. NYS Department of Labor said it would arrive in 7-10 business days but nothing so far. Is there a way to track the card delivery? I'm getting worried it got lost or stolen from my mailbox. Really need to access my benefits ASAP since rent is due next week.

You can track your KeyBank debit card through the KeyBank website. Go to their unemployment card section and look for the card tracking option. You'll need your SSN and some other info they gave you when your claim was approved. Usually takes up to 2 weeks sometimes, especially if there are mail delays in your area.

Thanks! I didn't know KeyBank had a tracking system. I'll check that right now.

same thing happened to me last month took almost 3 weeks to get mine, turned out the post office was holding it at the distribution center for some reason

If it's been 10 business days, you should contact NYS Department of Labor first to confirm your mailing address is correct. Sometimes there are issues with address verification that delay card shipment. You can also request expedited shipping for a replacement card if needed, though there may be a fee.

Good point about the address verification. I moved recently and I'm wondering if that's causing the delay.

I had this exact problem and couldn't get through to anyone at NYS Department of Labor for weeks! The phone lines are always busy and when I finally got through they just told me to wait longer. What finally worked for me was using claimyr.com - they got me connected to an actual agent in like 20 minutes. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Might be worth trying if you need to talk to someone quickly about your card status.

Never heard of that service before but honestly anything is better than sitting on hold for hours just to get disconnected

KEYBANK IS THE WORST!!! I've had nothing but problems with their unemployment card system. Customer service is terrible and the tracking never works properly. My card got delivered to the wrong address twice before I finally got it. The whole system is a joke.

Check with your local post office too. Sometimes they hold unemployment cards at the main office if they can't deliver them for some reason.

Have you tried calling KeyBank directly at their unemployment card customer service line? They might be able to give you more specific information about your card status than the general DOL office. Also, if you're really worried about it being stolen from your mailbox, you could contact your local post office and ask them to hold mail for pickup - that way future important mail won't sit in an unsecured mailbox. I know it's stressful when rent is due, but hopefully one of these tracking methods will give you some answers soon.

That's really helpful advice about having the post office hold mail for pickup! I hadn't thought of that but you're right - with rent due I'm definitely worried about mail security. I'll try calling KeyBank's unemployment line first thing tomorrow morning and see if they can give me a tracking number or at least confirm it was shipped to the right address.

You can also check your claim status online through the NY DOL website to see if there are any holds or issues that might be delaying card shipment. Sometimes there are identity verification steps that need to be completed before the card gets sent out. Also, if you need money urgently for rent, you might want to ask family/friends for a short-term loan since even if you get the card tomorrow it can take a day or two to activate it and access funds. Definitely try the KeyBank tracking and calling their unemployment card line - they're usually more helpful than the general DOL phone system.
