NY unemployment benefits sent to Key2Bank card - when will it arrive?

I'm super confused about this Key2Bank debit card situation with my NY unemployment benefits. I tried setting up direct deposit but something went wrong with my bank info. Yesterday (March 27th, 2025) they issued me a card instead. My questions are: 1. When will I actually receive this Key2Bank card in the mail? 2. My benefits were released to a "debit card" on the 27th - is that definitely the Key2Bank card? 3. I called Key2Bank customer service and they said nothing is pending for the card! I'm completely lost. Does anyone know how long it takes to get the card after benefits are released? Really need this money soon and have no idea where my benefits actually are right now.

The Key2Bank card usually takes 7-10 business days to arrive after it's been issued. When NYSDOL says your benefits were released to the debit card, it means they've sent the payment to Key2Bank, but it takes some time for Key2Bank to process and activate the card in their system. Key2Bank often doesn't show pending deposits until the card is activated, which is why customer service can't see anything yet. This is normal! Once you receive and activate the card, your benefits should be available immediately.

7-10 BUSINESS days?? That's like two whole weeks! Is there any way to speed this up? I was counting on this money for rent next week...

9 days is forever when you're waiting for money! Did they give you any tracking number or way to know when it would arrive?

I got my card in exactly 8 days after they said it was issued. I think they all ship from the same place in Ohio or something. But yeah the money was on there as soon as I activated it.

Key2Bank is THE WORST!! I've been through this nightmare twice now when I had to get replacement cards. Their customer service is absolutely useless - they don't know anything until the card is activated. And NYSDOL is no better because they'll just tell you to contact Key2Bank if you ask about it!! The system is BROKEN and nobody takes responsibility for the people suffering while waiting for THEIR MONEY!!

exactly!!!! and then they wonder why people get behind on bills. how are we supposed to pay rent when our money is floating in limbo for 2 weeks??

To clarify a few things: 1. The Key2Bank card typically arrives within 7-10 business days after being issued. 2. Yes, when NYSDOL says your benefits were released to a debit card, they mean the Key2Bank card. The funds have been transferred from NYSDOL to Key2Bank. 3. Key2Bank customer service can't see pending deposits until the card is activated by you. This is why they don't see anything pending. 4. Your money is safe and will be available once you receive and activate your card. If you need your benefits urgently, I'd recommend trying to update your direct deposit information again through your NY.gov account. For future payments, correct direct deposit information will route the money directly to your bank account much faster.

Thanks for explaining. Is there any way to check the status of the card shipment? I really can't wait 10 days with no information.

After dealing with this EXACT issue last month, I found using Claimyr to be a lifesaver. I used their service to get through to an actual NYSDOL agent in about 20 minutes instead of calling for days. The agent explained my card status and even expedited my card delivery. Check out their video demo at https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE - their website is claimyr.com. Unlike Key2Bank, they actually connected me with a real human who could help!

Does this actually work? I've been calling NYSDOL all day and can't get through to anyone. I'll try anything at this point.

Yes, it worked for me. I was skeptical too, but I was desperate after waiting on hold for hours. The NYSDOL agent I spoke with was able to verify that my card had been mailed and gave me the exact date I could expect it. They can also add notes to your account about urgent financial hardship.

pro tip: when u get the card make sure u transfer all the money off it right away. i had issues with my card randomly getting deactivated for "security" and then i couldnt access my funds for days. better to move it to your regular bank asap

Update: I called NYSDOL again today and finally got through! They confirmed my card was mailed yesterday and should arrive by April 5th. They also said I can set up direct deposit again for future payments once I get into my account. Thanks everyone for the help!

That's great news! Glad you got through to someone. And yes, definitely set up direct deposit again for future payments - it's much faster and more reliable than the card system.
