Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Used this service a couple times now. Before I'd call 200 times in less than a weak frustrated as can be. But using claimyr with a couple hours of waiting i was on the line with an representative or on hold. I had such a hard time getting through to NYS Department of Labor when my employer contested my claim. Spent weeks calling and getting busy signals or being hung up on. Yeah it's real, they just help you get through to an actual person instead of sitting on hold forever. Worth it when you need answers about your claim status.
File immediately! Even if there's a dispute about whether you quit or were fired, you want to get your claim in the system. NYS Department of Labor will sort out the details during adjudication. Don't let your employer's paperwork scare you - they probably did that to try to avoid paying unemployment insurance. Happens all the time unfortunately.

The whole system is designed to make you lose benefits! They don't clearly explain when to file and then penalize you for not knowing their arbitrary rules. Classic NYS Department of Labor bureaucracy.
While the system can be frustrating, the rules are actually posted on their website. The key is filing as soon as you become unemployed through no fault of your own.

been through this process twice now and honestly it's different every time depending on your situation... first time was smooth sailing, second time got stuck in adjudication hell for 6 weeks because my employer made some bogus claim about my termination
That's scary - what kind of bogus claim? I'm worried my employer might try to fight it even though I was laid off.

The $7,000 wage base is what trips people up. It's per employee per year, not total payroll. So if you have 3 employees making $50,000 each, you only pay FUTA on the first $7,000 of each person's wages, not on their full salaries.

ugh the whole NYS Department of Labor system is so confusing. I filed 3 weeks ago and STILL don't know my benefit amount because my claim is stuck in some kind of review. Can't get through on the phone either - always busy signal or they hang up after an hour on hold.

just to add - make sure you're filing your weekly claims even while waiting for your determination! lots of people miss this and then have trouble getting backpay later
