my cousin works for the state (not unemployment but different dept) and she said they're super backed up right now cuz they switched to a new system in december and lots of claims have issues. might be why ur seeing so many confused people here lately
Just wanted to update everyone - I followed the advice here and submitted my reconsideration request with all the properly labeled documentation. I also checked the box for the alternate base period since I had higher wages in my most recent quarters. I tried calling for a few days with no luck, then used that Claimyr service someone mentioned above. Got through to an agent who confirmed they received my reconsideration request and said I should have an answer within 7-10 business days. They also noted that one of my employers hadn't reported my wages correctly, which was likely the source of the calculation error. Thank you to everyone who provided actual helpful information! I'll update again when I get the final determination.
Thanks for the update! This is a perfect example of how the process should work. You identified the issue, gathered the proper documentation, submitted through the correct channels, and followed up to confirm receipt. Please do let us know the outcome - it helps others understand how the system works when things go right.
did anyone get a letter from the IRS explaining there refund? we didnt get anything just money in our acct
I wanted to update everyone - I finally got through to the IRS today! The agent explained that our refund was smaller because we had claimed the earned income credit on our original return, and the unemployment exclusion changed our qualifying income for that credit. So it wasn't just a straight calculation of taxes paid on $10,200. She said if we still think there's an error, we need to file Form 843 (Claim for Refund) with an explanation and our calculations. So at least now I know the next step if we decide to pursue it further. Thanks to everyone for the advice!
I used that Claimyr service that a couple people mentioned. Worth it to not spend my whole day redialing!
my cousin had this problem and she just gave up after trying for 2 months. so sad that the system is so broken
For future reference, if you need to check on payment status when the website is down, you can also call the automated payment line at 888-581-5812. It's often more reliable than the website and will tell you if a payment has been released to your account or debit card.

•They haven't stopped that service. You can request a duplicate 1099-G through your online account or by calling the dedicated tax form helpline at 888-209-8124. Follow the prompts for tax form assistance.

Thanks everyone for the helpful information! I'll check my online account after January 15th and make sure my address is updated in the system. If I don't see it by early February, I'll call or use that Claimyr service someone mentioned if I can't get through.

•Good plan. And if you have any issues understanding the form when you get it, feel free to come back here with questions. The 1099-G can be confusing the first time you deal with it, especially figuring out which box numbers correspond to what you need to enter on your tax forms.
