NY unemployment $300 bonus ending soon - will all benefits be cut off completely?
So I just heard the extra $300 weekly benefit is ending in September. Does anyone know if they're cutting off ALL our unemployment benefits or just the extra $300? I'm freaking out a little because I still haven't found a job and I'm not sure what to expect next. Will we still get the base amount or is everything stopping? The news articles I've read aren't clear about this.

They're only cutting the $300 federal supplement. Your regular NY unemployment benefits will continue if you're still eligible and have weeks remaining in your benefit year. The state benefits aren't affected by the federal program ending.

•Oh thank god. I was so worried they were cutting everything off at once. So I'll still get my regular weekly amount, just minus the $300?

This happened before when they ended other supplements. You keep getting your regular amount, just without the extra on top. Make sure you still certify every week!

I KNEW IT!!! They're always trying to cut us off even though inflation is crazy and nobody can live on the regular benefit amount!!! How are we supposed to pay rent when everything costs 3x more than it did?! The regular amount barely covers my utilities and phone bill. This is SO unfair!!!

•While it is definitely challenging, the $300 supplement was always designed to be temporary. The regular NY unemployment benefits will continue as normal if you still have weeks left in your benefit year and remain eligible. The maximum weekly benefit amount in NY is currently $519 (as of 2025), which I know isn't enough in many areas, but it's important to understand which parts are ending.

•Thanks for the reminder. I've been documenting all my job applications and interviews. How many work searches do we need to do each week now? Is it still 3?

•Yes, NY requires 3 work search activities per week. Make sure you're keeping detailed records of every search activity including company name, application date, position, contact information, and any follow-up. The DOL sometimes conducts random audits where they'll ask for this documentation.

I've been trying to call the unemployment office for THREE DAYS to ask about this exact issue. Nobody ever answers and I keep getting disconnected. It's making me so anxious because I need to know if I have to move back with my parents or if I can keep paying rent here. Has anyone actually gotten through to a real person recently?

•I was stuck in the same situation last week! Spent hours trying to get through. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to an agent in about 20 minutes. They have this service that basically calls for you and then connects you when they reach a real person. Saved me days of frustration. There's a demo video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Thanks everyone for the helpful info. I feel much better knowing my base benefits will continue. I'm going to keep applying for jobs but at least I won't be completely without income next month.

•Good luck with the job search! Remember to check out the resources on the NY Department of Labor website too - they have some job search tools and career counseling services that are free for unemployment recipients.

•I haven't seen any reliable information about a new supplement program. Currently, there are no announced plans to replace the $300 federal supplement after it expires. It's best to plan based on only receiving your regular state unemployment benefit amount going forward.

When I lost my job last year I was so stressed about the benefits thing too. It's scary not knowing if you'll be able to pay bills! Hope you find a good job soon.
