DEO regular benefits continue after Dec 26th, but will federal extension happen?

I'm seriously confused about what's happening with unemployment benefits. My girlfriend told me all unemployment ends on December 26th, 2025, but I've been getting mixed info online. I just started collecting regular Florida unemployment 3 weeks ago after getting laid off from my restaurant job. Will my benefits completely stop after Dec 26th? Or is it just some extra federal program ending? I have about $4,700 in my DEO balance according to CONNECT. Really worried about paying rent in January if everything suddenly stops!

Your girlfriend is confusing regular state benefits with federal extensions. The December 26th, 2025 date is when the current federal extension program is scheduled to end (unless Congress passes another extension). Your regular Florida DEO benefits will continue until you exhaust your balance or reach your benefit year end date (which is 12 months from when you applied). The maximum is 12 weeks of regular benefits in Florida currently.

Oh thank god! I was panicking thinking everything would just stop. So my regular $325 weekly payments will continue into January? I wasn't sure if the $4,700 balance meant anything or if all programs just end on that date.

the dec 26 cutoff is only for the extra federal $150 weekly supplement, your regular fl benefits keep going til ur account hits $0 or you use up all ur weeks

That's a huge relief! So the $150 federal supplement ends, but my base $325 should keep coming. Thanks!

Everyone here is partially right, but there are some important details. The December 26th cutoff affects three things: 1. The federal $150 weekly supplement 2. Extended Benefits (EB) program for people who exhausted regular UI 3. Mixed Earner benefits for self-employed who also had W2 income Your regular Florida unemployment (called Reemployment Assistance) will continue as normal. However, remember that Florida only provides up to 12 weeks of regular benefits, and you must continue to claim your weeks and complete 5 work search activities each week. Log into CONNECT every two weeks to claim on schedule or you'll lose those weeks permanently.

wait so the extra $150 is definitely ending? I thought they were going to vote on extending it again??

THIS IS TYPICAL DEO NONSENSE!!! They NEVER communicate anything clearly and leave us all confused and panicking every time a deadline approaches!!! I spent 2 HOURS trying to get through to someone last month to ask this EXACT question and of course no one picked up. The website has zero information about the Dec 26 cutoff. How are we supposed to budget when we don't know what's happening???

Have you tried using Claimyr to get through to a DEO agent? I was having the same problem - calling for days and getting nowhere. I used claimyr.com and got connected to DEO in about 20 minutes. They have this system that holds your place in line so you don't have to keep redialing. They even have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj. The agent I spoke with was able to explain exactly which benefits continue after Dec 26 for my specific situation.

I hope they extend the federal supplement. My sister's benefits are expiring in January (she'll hit her 12 weeks), and without the extension she'll have nothing. Does anyone know if they're even discussing another extension in Congress? I haven't seen anything in the news.

There's currently a bill in committee that would extend both the federal supplement and add 7 additional weeks of benefits, but it's been stuck there for months. If history repeats itself, they might pass something at the last minute, but I wouldn't count on it. The unemployment rate has been lower this year, which usually means less political will to extend benefits.

i got so confused with the whole thing i just gave up and got a part time job lol. still get partial unemployment but at least i know that money is coming in. the stress of wondering if benefits would stop was too much

That's probably smart honestly. I've been applying everywhere but December is a weird time for restaurant hiring where I am. Hoping something comes through in January when places staff up again.

Just to add some clarification based on the conversation: if you're receiving regular Florida Reemployment Assistance (not one of the federal programs), your benefits will continue until either: 1. You exhaust your maximum benefit amount ($4,700 in your case) 2. You reach your maximum weeks (12 weeks in Florida) 3. You reach your benefit year end date (BYE) Whichever comes first. The federal supplement ending won't affect your base amount. If you divide $4,700 by your weekly benefit amount, that tells you how many weeks you have left (assuming you're getting the full weekly amount each time).

this ↑ is exactly right. had the same thing happen last year. the federal part stopped but my regular FL payments kept coming til I hit my max weeks

I was in adjudication for 8 weeks earlier this year over a job separation issue and finally got approved last month. I've been so focused on just getting paid that I haven't even thought about when it all might end! Does anyone know if time spent in adjudication counts against your 12 weeks? I was unemployed that whole time but not receiving benefits.

No, time spent in adjudication doesn't count against your weeks. Your benefit year begins when you apply, but your weeks are only used when you successfully claim them. If they approved you retroactively, they should have paid you for those weeks in adjudication, and those weeks do count against your total.

Thanks everybody for clearing this up! Feeling much better now understanding that my regular benefits continue. One last question - do I need to do anything special when Dec 26 comes? Like re-apply or fill out different forms in CONNECT? Or does everything just continue automatically?

0 coins

You don't need to do anything special. Just continue claiming your weeks as normal every two weeks. The only change you'll notice is that if you were receiving the federal supplement, that additional $150 will no longer appear in your payments after December 26th. Your base Florida benefit amount will continue automatically as long as you keep claiming on schedule.
