DEO benefit extension vote today? Worried my payments will stop July 31
I'm so confused and starting to panic. I thought I heard from someone at CareerSource that today was the day Congress was voting on extending Florida unemployment benefits past July 31? My claim still has like 9 weeks left on it but my neighbor said all payments will stop at the end of July unless Congress votes to extend it. I can't find anything on the DEO website about this. Has anyone heard anything? Will my benefits just suddenly stop even though I was approved for more weeks?

I think ur getting confused with the old federal programs during covid. Regular Florida DEO unemployment (RA benefits) isnt expiring - it runs for 12 weeks max in FL and isnt tied to any july deadline. Congress isnt voting on regular state benefits.

•Wait really?? So as long as I have weeks left in my regular claim I'm good? The lady at CareerSource definitely mentioned something about July 31 and a vote... now I'm even more confused.

There's no vote happening today about Florida's regular unemployment benefits (RA benefits). Florida's program continues regardless of congressional action. You might be confusing this with previous pandemic-era federal programs like PUA or FPUC which did require congressional extensions, but those ended back in 2021. If you've been approved for regular Florida unemployment, your benefits will continue until either: 1. You exhaust your maximum weeks (currently 12 weeks in Florida) 2. You no longer qualify (find work, fail to complete work searches, etc.) No congressional vote is needed for your regular benefits to continue. The July 31 date isn't significant for standard state unemployment in Florida.

•Thank you SO MUCH for explaining! That's such a relief. I was literally losing sleep worrying about this. So my regular 12 weeks will continue as normal. I wonder what that CareerSource person was talking about then...

My cousin works at the DEO office and she said there's def no vote happening about regular benefits. The only thing on July 31 is some internal system maintenance they're doing on CONNECT but that shouldn't affect payments.

I HAD THE EXACT SAME PANIC LAST WEEK!!!! I was told by someone (can't remember who) that my benefits were gonna stop end of July and I freaked out. Called DEO for 2 days straight with no answer - just busy signals and hangups. Finally tried Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through and the DEO agent I spoke with confirmed what others are saying - regular FL benefits AREN'T expiring. There's no Congress vote needed. The agent said they've been getting this question a lot lately. Check out their video if you need to talk to someone at DEO directly: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj I think there's some weird rumor going around causing confusion.

•Thanks for sharing that! Good to know I'm not the only one who heard this rumor. I might try that service if I need to reach DEO again - last time I tried calling I gave up after being on hold for over 2 hours.

not to hijack but has anyone else had their claim randomly go into adjudication lately? I was getting payments fine and suddenly last week they put me in adjudication with no explanation? wondering if this july 31 thing is related somehow

•That's unrelated to any July 31 date. Random adjudication reviews happen all the time in the Florida system. Usually triggered by something in your claim that flagged their system - like earnings reported, work search activities, or even just random verification. Keep claiming weeks while in adjudication.

This seems to be a common misunderstanding going around. Florida's regular unemployment insurance (called Reemployment Assistance or RA) is a STATE program and doesn't require congressional approval to continue. It's permanently established by Florida law. What you might be thinking of: - During COVID, there were FEDERAL extensions and extra payments that did require congressional approval - Those all ended back in September 2021 - Since then, we've been back to just regular Florida unemployment (max 12 weeks) If the CareerSource person mentioned July 31, they might have been referring to: 1. The end of a fiscal quarter (which can affect some reports) 2. An upcoming CONNECT system maintenance 3. A deadline for something specific to your claim 4. Or they simply misspoke Your benefits will continue as normal as long as you have weeks remaining and continue to meet eligibility requirements.

•This. ☝️ The amount of misinformation out there is crazy. I was at DEO office last week and overheard like 3 different people asking about "benefits ending in July" and the staff kept having to explain that's not a thing.

back in 2020-2021 we had all those federal extensions that congress had to keep voting on... maybe thats what ur thinking of? but those r long gone now

Update: I called my CareerSource office back and spoke to a different person. Turns out the July 31 thing they mentioned was about some workshop deadline for certain claimants, not about benefits ending! Totally not what I thought they said. So relieved my benefits will continue normally. Thanks everyone for clearing this up!

•Glad you got it sorted out! That makes sense - CareerSource often has workshops and program deadlines that are separate from your actual unemployment benefits. Always good to double-check these things.
