When will NY unemployment extra $300 stop if my effective days says 0?
I used to be an account manager for a company whose website was shut down in January. While I'm desperately searching for something that pays anything close to my previous salary, I'm worried about the extra $300 weekly benefit. When exactly will this extra amount stop for me? I've been reading conflicting information about the effective days on unemployment, but mine shows 0 effective days remaining. Does this mean my benefits are about to end completely? Really confused and getting anxious since my job search isn't going well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The extra $300 Federal Unemployment Supplement is scheduled to end September 4, 2025, unless extended by Congress (which is unlikely given current discussions). Your effective days showing '0' is concerning but doesn't necessarily mean your benefits are ending immediately. In NY, regular UI provides 26 weeks (130 effective days) of benefits. When you see '0' effective days, it typically means you've exhausted your regular benefits. You should check if you're eligible for an extension under the current NY Extended Benefits program. Log into your NY.gov account and look for any messages about transitioning to extended benefits.

•Thanks for that info! So does that mean I'll still get the extra $300 until September even if my regular benefits are exhausted? And how do I know if I qualify for the extended benefits?

•Really? That's a relief to hear. Did you have to do anything special or did payments just continue automatically?

The 0 effective days usually means your regular UI is done but you might automatically roll into the Extended Benefits program if you qualify. You'll keep getting the $300 supplement with ANY unemployment payment until the federal program ends in September. I was freaking out about this last month too!

•That's good to know! Did you get any notification when you rolled over to the extended benefits? I haven't seen anything in my account yet.

I went through this exact situation in March. The system is TERRIBLE at explaining what's happening with your claim. When my effective days hit 0, I tried calling for three days straight and couldn't get through to anyone. Finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to reach an agent in under 30 minutes - totally worth it. They explained I was being automatically transitioned to Extended Benefits and my payments would continue without interruption, including the $300 supplement. There's a video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE if you're interested. The agent also confirmed the federal supplement continues regardless of which unemployment program you're on.

•Yeah it's legit. I was suspicious too but it worked exactly as advertised. The DOL rep I spoke with even said they're seeing a lot of people using it because the phone lines are so backed up right now.

NONE of this info is accurate! The NY system is COMPLETELY BROKEN and the website gives WRONG information all the time!!! My effective days have said 0 for TWO MONTHS and I haven't received a PENNY! When I finally got through to someone they said I needed to file a new claim even though the website NEVER told me that! Now I'm stuck in 'pending' hell with NO IDEA when I'll get paid again! Don't trust the system or the website AT ALL!!!

•That sounds like a different issue than what OP is asking about? Maybe you had a BYE date come up? That's when you need to file a new claim, but that's not related to effective days showing 0.

•It IS relevant because the system LIES about everything! When my effective days hit 0, I should have been told what to do next but WASN'T! Everyone's situation is different and the DOL treats everyone differently!

To directly answer your question: The extra $300 Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) will continue until September 4, 2025, regardless of your effective days count. It applies to all unemployment programs currently in place. Regarding your effective days showing 0: This indicates you've used all 26 weeks (130 days) of regular UI benefits. You should automatically transition to NY Extended Benefits if you qualify. If this doesn't happen automatically within a week, you may need to call and speak with a representative. The most reliable indicators are: 1) Check your payment history - if payments continue, you're on extended benefits 2) Look for correspondence in your online message center 3) If you get a "break in claim" message, that's when you need to be concerned Most importantly, continue certifying weekly without interruption, even when your effective days show 0.

•Thanks so much for the detailed explanation. I'll definitely keep certifying weekly. So far I haven't seen any "break in claim" message so hopefully that's a good sign. I appreciate everyone's help!

I had this happen and my benefits stopped for 3 weeks but then started again automatically. just keep certifying every week

•Thanks, that's reassuring to hear. I'll definitely keep certifying and hope it sorts itself out.

my brother works at the DOL and he says the extra 300 is definitely ending in sept unless congress does something which they probly wont

•Your brother is correct. The September 4, 2025 end date for the $300 supplement is set in federal law, and there hasn't been any serious discussion about extending it beyond that date.

Update: I finally got through to someone at DOL! They confirmed I'm being transferred to Extended Benefits automatically and will continue receiving payments including the $300 extra until September when that program ends. They said the 0 effective days is just showing I've used all my regular UI, but the system continues payments under the extension. Thanks everyone for your help!
