How to find last unemployment payment date on NYS Department of Labor account?

I've been trying to figure out when my last unemployment payment was processed through my NYS Department of Labor account but I can't seem to locate this information anywhere on the my.ny.gov portal. I need this info for my tax prep and I'm getting confused by all the different dates and claim weeks shown. Does anyone know where exactly I can find the date of my most recent UI payment? The payment history section shows a bunch of different entries but I can't tell which one was actually the final payment.

Log into your my.ny.gov account and go to the 'Labor Services' section. Click on 'View Payment History' and it should show all your unemployment payments in chronological order. The most recent one at the top would be your last payment. Make sure you're looking at the 'Date Paid' column, not the claim week dates.

Thanks! I found the payment history but there are like 3 different date columns - claim week ending, processed date, and paid date. Which one should I use for tax purposes?

i had this same problem last year!! the payment history is kinda confusing but you want the actual date it hit your bank account not the claim week date

For tax purposes, you'll want the actual payment date when the money was issued, not the claim week ending date. That's usually the 'Date Paid' or 'Payment Date' field in your payment history. If you're still having trouble navigating the NYS Department of Labor website, you can also check your bank statements for the last deposit from 'NYS DEPT OF LABOR' - that would give you the exact date.

This is really helpful - I was using the wrong date on my tax forms! Had to go back and check my bank statements to confirm.

If you can't get through on the website or it's not working properly, I actually used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get connected with a NYS Department of Labor agent directly. They helped me get my payment history straightened out when the online portal was being glitchy. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Way easier than trying to call the regular number and getting hung up on.

Interesting, never heard of that service before. Did they charge you for connecting to NYS Department of Labor?

Yeah there's a fee but it was worth it to actually talk to someone instead of sitting on hold for hours. They got me connected pretty quickly and the agent was able to pull up my entire payment history right away.

ugh the nys department of labor website is such a nightmare to navigate... half the time the payment history doesn't even load properly and when it does the dates are all over the place. i ended up just using my 1099-G form that they mailed me

Good point about the 1099-G form - that will also show your total unemployment compensation for the tax year. If you need the specific date of your last payment though, the online payment history is still your best bet when it's working properly.

I had the same issue when I was doing my taxes last month! What worked for me was going to the "Unemployment Services" tab in my.ny.gov, then clicking "Payment History" - but make sure you expand the date range at the top to show your full claim period. The default view sometimes only shows recent weeks. The "Date Paid" column is definitely what you want for tax purposes, not the claim week ending date. Also, if you're having trouble with the site loading (which happens a lot), try using it early in the morning or late at night when there's less traffic.

Great tip about expanding the date range! I didn't realize that was why I was only seeing partial payment history. The early morning access suggestion is gold too - I've been trying to log in during lunch breaks and it's always slow or timing out. Thanks for the detailed walkthrough!

Another thing that helped me was downloading the payment history as a PDF or CSV file if that option is available in your account - sometimes the exported version is clearer than trying to read it on the website. You can usually find an export/download button somewhere on the payment history page. This way you have a backup copy for your records too, which is handy during tax season. If you're still having trouble after trying all these suggestions, you might want to call the NYS DOL customer service line early in the morning (like right at 8am when they open) - you'll have a better chance of getting through before the phone lines get jammed.

This is super helpful! I didn't even know you could export the payment history - that would definitely make it easier to sort through all the information. Do you remember if the CSV export includes all those different date columns (claim week, processed, paid) or does it simplify it? I'm worried about accidentally using the wrong date again on my amended return.

@Natasha Kuznetsova The CSV export usually includes all the date columns, so you ll'still see claim week ending, processed date, and paid date - but having it in spreadsheet format makes it much easier to sort and identify which is which. I d'recommend sorting by the Date "Paid column" to find your most recent payment. Just double-check that the date you use matches what shows up on your bank statement to be 100% sure you re'using the right one for your amended return!

I just went through this exact same situation a few weeks ago! One thing that really helped me was checking if there's a "Summary" or "Account Overview" section in your my.ny.gov portal - sometimes it shows your last payment date right on the main dashboard without having to dig through all the payment history details. Also, if you received direct deposit, the payment date in your NYS account should match pretty closely to when it actually showed up in your bank account (usually 1-2 business days later). For tax purposes, definitely use the "Date Paid" field as others mentioned - that's the date the IRS cares about, not when you certified for that particular week.
