Got a NY unemployment letter to verify with ID.me but can't find the right link
Just got a letter in the mail saying I need to verify my identity through id.me for my unemployment benefits. Super annoying they decide to do this now when my benefits are almost finished. The letter doesn't even have the actual website address to go to! Anyone know the correct link for id.me verification for NY unemployment? Don't wanna click on some random site and get scammed. I've been getting benefits since September and NOW they decide I need to verify? Makes no sense.

The link should be https://www.id.me/. Make sure you go through the official NY unemployment website first and click their link to ID.me so it connects to your claim. Don't just Google it and click random links.

•Thanks! Do I need to create a whole new account or will it know who I am automatically?

•You'll need to create an account if you don't already have one. Have your drivers license or state ID and SS card ready - they'll ask you to take pics of them.

I was in the same boat last month! The verification system is such a pain. I tried calling the unemployment office for days with no luck getting through. Then I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to a real person. Talking to an agent got my benefits unlocked in less than a day! Check out their video here: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•is this some kind of scam? seems too good to be true

•Not at all! I was skeptical too but it's literally just a service that calls and waits on hold for you. When they get a rep, they connect you. Saved me hours of hold music 😅

•sounds like another 'miracle solution'... what's the catch? 🙄

•The catch is you pay for the service, but considering I was about to lose weeks of benefits it was worth it. My verification issue got resolved in one phone call.

It's such bs how they spring this on people. I got mine in February and they gave me like 10 days to complete it or they would cut off my benefits. The whole ID.me process took me like 2 hours cause the facial recognition kept failing and I had to do a video call. prepare to waste half ur day 🤮

If you need help with the actual process: log onto your NY unemployment account first, there should be a message about ID verification with a link. DON'T use any link from emails claiming to be unemployment - there's tons of scams. The official process will have you upload your ID, take a selfie video, and possibly do a video call with a person if the automatic system can't verify you.

•When I log in to my account I don't see any messages about verification. Just the regular homepage. But I definitely got a letter in the mail...

•That's weird. Maybe call the dept? Sometimes their systems don't sync up. The letter should have a reference number you can mention.

•Classic NY unemployment... sending letters but not updating the online system 🤦♀️

Here's what nobody tells you - after you verify with ID.me, your claim might still get locked for a few days while their systems sync up. Don't panic if this happens! Mine took 4 business days to start working again after I verified.

This happened to me last week!!! The whole ID.me thing is THE WORST. I ended up having to do a video call with them because their facial recognition is garbage. Had to wait like 6 hours in a virtual queue just to talk to someone for 5 minutes. NY unemployment system is so broken.

•same boat. failed facial recognition 3 times then had to wait 5 hours for video call. Then another week for benefits to start again. RIDICULOUS

The timing is definitely suspicious. Just when fed benefits are winding down, suddenly everybody needs to verify? Seems like they're looking for any excuse to kick people off.

•100% this. They did the same thing in 2008 recession. Right when extensions were ending they started requiring extra documentation.

I've been dealing with unemployment issues for months and can offer some detailed advice: First, ID.me verification can be a nightmare if you're not prepared. Have ALL your documents ready before starting: driver's license/state ID, social security card, and possibly additional proof like a utility bill or bank statement. The system is glitchy - I recommend using Chrome browser on a laptop, not your phone. If you get stuck in verification limbo, you NEED to talk to a live agent. I spent weeks trying to call with no success until I used claimyr.com. Within hours I had a callback with a real agent who was able to see exactly what was happening with my claim and fix the verification flag. After verification, keep claiming weekly benefits even if the system says your benefits are on hold! This ensures you'll get backpay for those weeks once your identity is confirmed. The NY unemployment system is totally overwhelmed right now with these verification requests. Be persistent and document everything - take screenshots, note the names of any representatives you speak with, and record the times of your calls. Good luck!

•Thank you SO MUCH for all this info! I didn't realize I'd need my SS card too, gotta find that. Might check out that calling service if things get stuck.

•This is gold ⭐ thanks for the detailed breakdown. The claiming while on hold tip is especially important.

The real reason they do this ID.me stuff is cause there was so much fraud during the pandemic. My cousin works for the state and said they lost MILLIONS to scammers so now they're cracking down on everyone. Sucks for legit people but I get why they gotta do it.

•Yeah but why wait till NOW? They've been paying me for 6 months already!

•They're probably doing it in waves. Can't verify everyone at once or the system would crash harder than it already does lol

•they should go after the actual scammers instead of making life harder for ppl who actually need the money 😡

btw once you do get into id.me don't get freaked out by how much personal info they ask for. i almost quit halfway thru cuz it seemed sketchy af but my friend who works in tech said they're legit. they need all that info to prove ur really you.

does anyone know if there's a time limit to complete the verification once you get the letter? mine doesn't say specifically and i'll be out of town next week 😬

•Usually 10 days from the date on the letter. I wouldn't risk waiting, tbh

Lmao are we all just gonna ignore that the NY unemployment system waits until the LAST POSSIBLE MOMENT to verify people? Almost like they WANT to find a reason to stop paying. This state man... 🤡

Anyone else notice how id.me verification makes you wait in line again if you make ANY mistake during the process? I had to restart THREE TIMES because my internet glitched while uploading my license photo. Then waited 4 hours for a video call 😤

Went through this whole process last week. You need a smartphone with a good camera that can do the facial recognition stuff. If you have an older phone you might have trouble. Took me about 45 mins total to get verified but then another 3 days for unemployment to actually recognize it in their system.

•Yeah that'll work fine! Just make sure you're in good lighting when doing the facial scan part.

Same thing happened to me in January! The timing is definitely suspicious - they wait until you're almost done with benefits then spring this on you. I found the link through the official NY DOL website, not from the letter. Go to labor.ny.gov, log into your account, and look for any alerts or messages about identity verification. If there's nothing there, try calling the main number and mentioning the reference number from your letter. The whole process took me about 2 hours including a video call because the facial recognition failed twice. Make sure you have good lighting and a stable internet connection!
