Finally got through to NY unemployment - keep trying!
After weeks of frustration, I finally managed to speak with a rep from unemployment today! No tricks needed, just persistence. The agent asked if I had worked since my last unemployment payment and I told her I hadn't. She informed me they're sending out my determination letter today, and I should get it by next Wednesday or so (depending on mail delivery). She told me to just keep certifying in the meantime. So if you're struggling to reach someone, don't give up! I know how maddening it can be waiting on hold forever or getting disconnected, but stay persistent. It doesn't cost anything but time to keep calling - eventually you'll break through.

•I called around 8:15am, right after they opened. Seems like early morning is better before everyone starts calling.

•I had better luck calling after 3pm. Apparently less people trying then.

After trying for 3 weeks, I gave up on calling and used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com). They dialed for me and called me back when they got a live agent! Talking to an agent got my money unlocked so fast. Before that I spent HOURS on hold just to get disconnected. Check out this video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•yeah right, another 'miracle solution'... what's the catch? 🙄

•Honestly was skeptical too but I was desperate. They just dial for you and stay on hold so you don't have to. When they get someone, they call you. Saved me from going insane with the hold music lol

•I used it last month when I was ready to lose my mind. Got through in like 2 hours when I'd been trying for days on my own.

Lucky you! I've been trying for over a month now. Always get disconnected after waiting on hold for 2+ hours. The system is completely broken. How many times did you have to call before getting through?

•I probably called like 30+ times over 3 weeks. Just kept trying different days/times. Really frustrating but worth it when you finally get someone.

•30 times?!?! 😭 This is ridiculous. The system is a joke.

•Same boat, been trying for months. The unemployment system is designed to make you give up.

Here's my comprehensive guide to actually getting through to NY unemployment based on personal experience and tips from others who succeeded: Best times to call: - Right when they open (8:00am) - During lunch (12:30-1:30pm) - About an hour before closing Don't waste time with the automated system. As soon as it starts, press 9 to speak to a rep about a claim. If you're desperate and can't get through after multiple attempts, I highly recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com). They'll dial for you and call you when they get an agent. It was the best money I've spent considering I was about to lose my apartment without those benefits coming through. Also, make sure you're documenting every call attempt (date/time). If there's ever a question about why payments were delayed, you can prove you were actively trying to resolve issues. Don't give up! The system is frustrating by design, but persistence pays off eventually.

•Does that Claimyr thing really work? Sounds too good to be true tbh

•It absolutely works. They just stay on hold so you don't have to. When they get a real person, they connect you. Saved me weeks of frustration.

•That tip about pressing 9 immediately is clutch. Cuts down like 5 mins of the automated BS

Try calling from a different phone number. I swear they block numbers that call too much. When I switched to my wife's phone I got through first try!

•Wait this actually makes sense. They probably have some algorithm to prevent 'spam' callers

I don't think the regular phone lines work anymore. I've been calling the appeals department and then asking to be transferred and that worked twice for me! Try 1-800-833-3000 and then just apologize and say you need regular UI help.

Pro tip: Tell the automated system you want to file a new claim even if you don't. You'll get through to a human much faster, and then just explain your actual situation when you get someone.

I had a similar experience but with a twist. I finally got through after 2 weeks of trying, and the rep told me they couldn't help me because my account was flagged for ID verification! Had to upload docs and start the whole process over. Keep an eye on your online account too - sometimes they need more info but don't actually tell you.

•This! Political offices can actually help cut through the red tape. They have dedicated contacts.

I'm sorry but this post feels like it was written by someone who works at NY unemployment lol. "Just keep calling" isn't helpful advice when the system is literally designed to prevent people from getting benefits. The whole system needs to be burned down and rebuilt.

•FOR REAL. "Just keep trying" is such bs advice. Some of us have been trying for months!

•not a hack, they just wait on hold for you. try it or don't, but it worked for me 🤷♀️

U guys know that most claims are being automatically pushed thru the system right? Unless you have a specific issue that needs human intervention, u should just wait. The backlog is insane and calling 100 times just makes it worse for everyone.

Malik Johnson
•This is terrible advice. If your claim has ANY issue it will sit there forever unless you call.

QuantumLeap
•Not true. My claim was pending for 6 weeks, never called, and it resolved automatically. Same for 3 of my coworkers.

•Depends on the issue. Simple verification stuff? Maybe. ID verification or income discrepancies? You definitely need to call.
