NY unemployment not releasing funds after certification - system issues
Just wanted to share my experience with everyone. My payment wasn't released for the week ending 11/14, even though the system showed I had already claimed benefits for that week! Been stressing about this for days since I need the cash for bills. Finally managed to call the unemployment office today after multiple attempts. The agent told me they were having technical problems with online certifications from this past weekend, but as usual, couldn't give me any real specifics about what went wrong. Thankfully he was able to fix it in their system and said my money should be deposited by tomorrow. So if anyone else is experiencing the same issue and has been trying to reach them all day, keep trying - they can resolve it once you get through to an actual person.

Ohhh this explains why I'm missing my payment too! Been checking my account like crazy and nothing showed up. The website says I certified but no $$ came through. Gonna call them tomorrow morning.

•Yeah definitely call them! The agent I spoke with said a lot of people were having this exact problem from weekend certifications. Good luck!

I found a way to actually get through to a real human at ny unemployment after trying for days. Used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me a callback with an actual agent! Talking to someone got my payment issues fixed in like 10 minutes. Best decision I made after wasting hours trying to call myself. Here's a video that explains how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•wait is that actually real? sounds too good to be true with how impossible it is to reach them

•Yeah its real! I was super skeptical too but I was desperate after trying to call for 3 days straight. Their system actually calls DOL for you and then connects you when a human answers. My payment hit my account the next day after getting things fixed.

•yeah right, another 'miracle solution'... what's the catch? 🙄

•No catch, it just works. I was missing 2 weeks of payments and was freaking out. The agent fixed everything once I actually got to talk to someone. Way better than waiting on hold for hours or getting hung up on repeatedly.

•hmm I've been burned by so many of these 'services' before... what makes this different?

•It's not like those other things - this literally just calls for you and connects when there's a human. Saved me so much time and stress. My roommate used it too and got her claim issues fixed.

I swear the ny unemployment system is held together with duct tape and prayers. Every other week there's some new problem 🙄

Same thing happened to me but for the week ending 11/7! Called them yesterday and they fixed it right away. The lady told me they were having database issues or something. Kinda ridiculous they don't send out a mass email or text when they know there's a system-wide problem though...

•Lol expecting competent communication from NYSDOL is like expecting my cat to do my taxes 😹

•LMAO true that 💯 but for real they could at least put up a banner on the website

I been dealing with this for TWO weeks. My certifications show as completed but no payments. Has anyone gotten through to them by calling the regular number or is there a special one?

•I couldn't get through on the regular number at all. Check out claimyr.com - that's what finally worked for me after days of trying.

•The regular number is useless. I had better luck calling right when they open at 8am but still took multiple tries

•Thx for the tips! Will try both approaches tomorrow. Getting desperate here.

Been in the same boat for 3 weeks now. The most frustrating part is that everything looks normal in the system - it says I claimed but no money hits my account. Seems like their system is having major issues lately. Im glad you got yours fixed!

Heres what I've learned after dealing with NY unemployment for 9 months: DOCUMENT EVERYTHING. Take screenshots of your certifications, note the date/time you claimed, and always write down the name of any agent you speak with. The system has so many glitches and they'll try to blame you if you can't prove you did everything right.

•This is solid advice! I learned this the hard way. They told me I never certified for a week when I definitely did. No proof = no money.

•Exactly! Their system is full of holes. Screenshots are your best friend when dealing with ny unemployment.

I just wait and usually my payment shows up eventually, but it's so stressful not knowing when the money will hit. How tf are we supposed to budget when payments are random?

•fr this is what drives me crazy. like I have bills due on specific dates, can't just tell my landlord "idk the unemployment system is broken" 🤦♂️

The best solution for dealing with NY unemployment system issues is to be proactive and know exactly who to contact. I've been helping people navigate this mess for months now. If you're having certification/payment issues: - First, check your payment history and make sure your certification was actually processed (sometimes it looks complete but isn't) - Take screenshots of EVERYTHING as proof - If calling the main number doesn't work (and it usually doesn't), use claimyr.com - it's a service that gets you through to an agent - When you do speak to someone, ask them to note your account specifically - Request a confirmation email if possible - If they say it's fixed, ask EXACTLY when you should expect payment The system has been especially glitchy with the recent website updates. Always document dates, times, and names of who you speak with. Don't wait for them to fix it automatically - in my experience, these issues require human intervention to resolve. Good luck everyone. The system is frustrating but can be navigated with persistence.

Don't even bother with the regular phone number anymore. Use claimyr.com - I was skeptical but it worked when nothing else did. Got my backpay issue fixed in one call after weeks of trying.

Has anyone actually gotten an explanation for WHY this keeps happening? like is it just incompetence or is something else going on? I have this problem at least once every couple months.

•My cousin works in IT (not for DOL but similar govt system) and says their entire system is built on 40+ year old technology. They keep patching it instead of replacing it.

•Yikes that explains soooo much 😬

•The agent I talked to last month actually admitted they're using COBOL programming from the 1980s for some parts of the system. Like wtf seriously???

THIS IS A WIDESPREAD ISSUE 🚨 My friend works at unemployment office (not supposed to tell me this stuff but whatever) and said over 4000 claims from last weekend had this exact problem. They're working on it but apparently their IT department is way understaffed.

•Np! They should be sending out some kind of notification soon but you know how slow bureaucracy is 🐌

I'm on week 6 of trying to solve a similar issue. Certifications show as completed but no payment for multiple weeks. Called 37 times. Been told it's fixed 3 different times. Still nothing. I hate ny unemployment with the passion of a thousand burning suns.

•Try claimyr.com - sounds like you need to get to a tier 2 agent who can actually fix things. That's what worked for me after weeks of runaround.

Anyone else think its suspicious that these problems always happen right before holidays when people need money the most? Just sayin...

•I mean I try not to attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence but... the timing is interesting

Pro tip: if you're having trouble reaching NY unemployment by phone, try calling your state assembly person's office. They have special contacts at DOL and can often resolve issues faster than you can yourself. Worked for me twice when I was at my wits end.

Adriana Cohn
•This is legit advice! My assembly person's office helped me get 3 weeks of backpay that DOL kept saying was 'processing'

Have y'all tried the unemployment twitter? Sometimes tweeting at them actually gets a response faster than phone lol. Just don't include any personal info in the public tweet.

What number did you eventually get through on? My phone just says 'all circuits busy' every time I try to call 😭

•I used the regular 888 number but called later in the day around 3:30pm. Seems like everyone tries in the morning so afternoon might be better.

Its wild how a system this important can be this broken. People rely on these benefits to EAT and PAY RENT. Every time there's a 'glitch' real people suffer. Makes my blood boil.
